World of Warcraft Graphics Card Compatibility

3 Keywords: Graphic, Compatibility, video, card

First of all please make sure that your video card meets the World of Warcraft minimum System Requirements. The list of supported video cards is available on this page, please also ensure you have the latest drivers installed.

To find out what graphic adapter you are currently using, please visit our How can I find the manufacturer of my hardware? Technical Support article.

The latest drivers for your graphic adapter are usually found on the manufacturer's web site, our Driver update information page contains links to common hardware manufacturers' web sites.

If, when running the game, your monitor is flickering, is off-centred or is experiencing other graphical issues, first of all please try setting your monitor refresh rate manually.

Important: Although some customers have managed to run the game with graphic adapters reported as unsupported, please bear in mind that these cards may show serious graphical defects or simply prevent the game from running at all. We are therefore unable to provide any technical assistance when the game is running on unsupported hardware.

If your graphic adapter is not listed at all then it is likely to be untested, it may still be able to run the game provided that you have installed updated drivers for your hardware.

Please note that while many professional OpenGL graphic accelerators (Quadro series, Fire GL series) may be able to run the game, we only offer support for consumer level cards at this time.

The game is highly dependent on the video adapter in your computer, having up to date drivers installed is essential to improving performance and stability.

Please bear in mind that laptop computer manufacturers commonly do not update their drivers on a regular basis. Frequently, these manufacturers only supply drivers based on the drivers that the chipset manufacturers were offering at approximately the same time the laptop was released.

This means that laptops with older video cards (GeForce 2Go, ATI Radeon Mobility series, and Radeon IGP 300 series) that technically meet our system requirements will often be unable to run the game for lack of recent drivers. Trying to install the latest reference drivers from your laptop's video chipset manufacturer (ATI or nVidia, for example) will usually result in an error that advises you that the video chip installed is not supported, thus then installation will fail.

Although it is possible to install these files by modifying the driver's .inf file or using unsupported third-party distributions of the drivers, this can cause serious display issues and we cannot recommend such workarounds. Please note that it may be possible to run the game on a laptop or notebook computer, we will be however unable to offer technical support for video related problems caused by inconsistent driver implementations. We sincerely apologise if you are unable to run the game for this reason and recommend you to contact laptop manufacturer and request the release of a new drivers package based on the latest reference drivers from the video chip manufacturer.
