If when trying to run Diablo II you receive a message saying Unable to load function; Ft_thunk (Kernell32.dll), this normally occurs when running the game in compatibility mode. In order to change the game back into normal mode:

Right click on the icon you use to launch the game Select PROPERTIES
Click on the COMPATIBILITY tab
Uncheck the box next to 'Run this game in compatibility mode for:'
Click OK to confirm changes
Double click on the modified icon to run the game
