[Windows] Closing background applications

1 Keywords: [Windows] Closing background applications

You may need to exit any programs you have running in the background to improve performance and stability. We recommend running in a selective startup if possible. If you are not able to run in a selective startup, please try closing background applications manually.

Note: Using selective startup may close needed software, firewalls or other security software. To re-enable them again, follow the below instructions and recheck Load startup items.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 Selective startup:

1. Click the Windows Start Logo

2. In the Search area type msconfig

3. Run the msconfig program that the Search box finds

4. When on the General tab, choose Selective Startup and untick Load Startup items

5. Click Apply and then Ok to restart Windows using a selective startup.

Windows XP Selective startup:

1. Click Start and select Run

2. Type msconfig in the Open text area and click Ok

3. When on the General tab, choose Selective Startup and untick Load Startup items

4. Click Apply and then Ok to restart Windows using a selective startup.

Important Note:

When you are booting your computer in Selective Startup, please keep in mind that you are disabling every application that normally starts up with your computer. This may include firewall and security software that you would normally want to have on. After you are finished testing, you should re-enable the Normal Startup option in msconfig.exe.
