What is the Wrath of the Lich King direct online upgrade?

The Wrath of the Lich King direct online upgrade provides a means to purchase and upgrade to World of Warcraft: The Wrath of the Lich King online.

How does this process work?

Go to the Wrath of the Lich King Direct Online Upgrade page, which is located in the Battle.net Account Management. You will be asked to log in using your Battle.net login information if you have not already and then you should click on the picture representing the World of Warcraft account you wish to upgrade. Once on the proper page, you will have to select "upgrade" on the right hand side and you will be asked to enter your credit card information; enter that, and click the "Submit" button. Then, follow the link to download the Wrath of the Lich King game client. Once you've downloaded and installed the client, you're ready to go.

Does this upgrade cost anything?

Yes. When you click the "Submit" button, your credit card will be billed with a £29.99/34.99€ activation fee, which will upgrade you to The Wrath of the Lich King.

How much will I be billed each month to continue playing?

After you upgrade, your current subscription plan will continue to be applied with no change. You can change the subscription plan on the account-management page anytime. The changes will take effect with your next regular billing period.

How many upgrades of the expansion will be needed for players who play with multiple accounts?

You will need one upgrade of the expansion for every World of Warcraft account that you wish to upgrade.

Is a credit card required for the Wrath of the Lich King direct online upgrade?

Yes, you need a valid credit card to purchase and upgrade to an expansion account through the Wrath of the Lich King direct online upgrade method. This does not have to be the same credit card you use to subscribe to World of Warcraft.

Will the Wrath of the Lich King Collector's Edition be available through a direct online upgrade?

The Wrath of the Lich King Collector's Edition includes a number of physical items, such as an art book, a soundtrack CD, a behind-the-scenes DVD, and numerous World of Warcraft Trading Card Game cards, so we're not able to offer the Collector's Edition through the direct online upgrade service.

If I upgrade to the expansion through the direct online upgrade, will I be able to reinstall without discs?

Yes. Once you have upgraded through the Wrath of the Lich King direct online upgrade, you will be able to return to the Battle.net Account Management website to download the Wrath of the Lich King client again as needed.

What about the current characters I play? Will they remain on the account when I upgrade?

All characters, items, and quests will be waiting for you just as you left them. However, after upgrading, you will be able to:
