Charity Auction — Buy a Server Blade from Your Realm: Final Opportunity — Auctions Close January 30!

Update: Auctions close on Monday, January 30. So hurry and place your bids, as this is the absolute final opportunity to buy a server blade and give to charity.

If you thought you'd missed out on your chance to own a piece of Blizzard Entertainment history, we have good news for you: it's not too late! Starting today, we're releasing the last batch of retired EU server blades, which are now available for bidding on eBay. Don't miss your final opportunity to take part in this charity auction - net proceeds will be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

St. Jude is a pediatric hospital and research facility, where patients from Europe and around the world are cared for. European medical professionals benefit from the discoveries made at St. Jude in their treatment of children with cancer and other serious illnesses. Partner clinics across the globe are aided by the hospital's valuable research.

For more details, and to view the auction schedule for this final batch of server blades, please visit our information page.

To see exactly how much it would cost to have one of these server blades delivered to you, see our reduced shipping costs.

Do you play on a non-English realm? You can also bid on a server blade which held a French, Russian, Spanish or German realm!

Did all the servers sell.?
And by the look of the blades on the pictuers, was it a HP BL P-class series.? And did the original harddrives for the server come with it.?

I was lucky enough to win the sporeggar server blade although i paid a heft sum of $450 for it :/ i think this is a great chance to own a 1 of a kind item with a personal touch attributed to it :)

Is there anyway that a 'club' or mention of peoples names will be put anywhere on here for the people who bought one? like there is for those people that bought a frostmourne sword??

@Flashkill: A large portion of the money goes to charity, and the buyer gets a piece of blizzard history. If you think it's just another way of filling their pockets, then don't buy one.

The people that did buy them ended up getting a nice piece of tech/history while a fair amount of money goes to a children's charity. If you see money going to children's charities as filling their pocket with cash, you are a bit of an idiot.

I'm not planning on buying one, but I have to ask, have Blizzard donated any of their own money? If I recall right, Blizzard should be able to donate a couple of millions without the wallet getting smaller.

@Hunterskills: These blades are the actual hardware behind the realms. Kind of like a computer but just for serving data.

I love the irony that all European auctions are actually on the American eBay website... even though Blizzard HQ is in fact based in Europe :P Any one wanna explain that one to me?

Are the server blades still functional? They are retired from hosting realms, yes, but with the right set-up, can they still be used for anything?

Would it be possible to get one of these running for some simple tasks, like a web-server? And for what estimated cost in case? I don't know much about Blade Servers or Blade Enclosures, so this is why I ask. :) I would love to get one of them running something!
