WoW Summer Challenge: Karazhan

WoW Summer Challenge: Karazhan

Every week this summer, we’re challenging you to get together with a few friends to explore a part of Azeroth that you may not have seen in a while, or perform a feat that you may have never done. We’re calling them World of Warcraft Summer Challenges, and we’re going to be playing along with you as we hunt down rare achievements, get screenshots of amazing bosses, and try to find some rare gear for our transmogrification sets.

This week’s challenge is: Karazhan.

Medivh, the Last Guardian, made his home in Deadwind Pass, in the bright tower of Karazhan. Though he was the greatest wizard of his day (and humanity's intended custodian) Medivh was secretly possessed by the dark spirit of Sargeras, the Destroyer of Worlds. Through Medivh, Sargeras opened the Dark Portal and allowed the orcs to wage war upon the kingdoms of Azeroth.

Originally opened for raids of 10 players at level 70, Karazhan is teeming with a dozen bosses, many with unique events, ending with Prince Malchezaar. There are a number of reasons to explore Azeroth's original haunted castle.

Notable achievements

Desirable gear

Other odds and ends

As the war progressed, Medivh fought against Sargeras' control. The raging conflict within him finally drove the wizard irrevocably insane, until his childhood friend, Anduin Lothar, aided Medivh's young apprentice, Khadgar in storming Karazhan and slaying their former comrade. Since that day, a terrible curse has pervaded both the tower and the lands around it - casting a dark pall over Deadwind Pass and the region that is now known as Duskwood.

Please join us in this discussion thread, where we’re talking about this week’s challenge, and looking forward to your stories about how it went for you this week, your screenshots, and your suggestions for other fun reasons to take on Karazhan

@Coolasice: chess is easy :) nuke down their mage with yours, then damage the king as much as possible (place dots on the healers) kill healers with horse/worgen and finish their king with yours :) That's how i do it and i always succeed 2nd or 3rd attempt ^^

Kara is one of the best designed raids out there; lots of quirky boss fights in an awesome setting. My fave parts are the secret passage behind the bookcase (I always wanted one of those), the NPC phrases in the guest chambers near Maiden's room, and the whole of the Opera event :D

I hope a few newer folks will decide to explore it this week!

You can't solo this. The 6th boss is a chess game. You really need to be with at least 7...

@Alarria: No he said you have to do it with a minimum of 7. But I did it with just a friend. Also he said that it isn't possible to do alone, but it is. (I didn't try it, but I know it's possible to solo.)

I can't understand why everyone's so upset. It's not supposed to be a super big, serious thing... it's litterally just some encouragement to go exploring places you might not have been before. Sure, lots of people go to Karazhan, but sometimes it's nice to just chillax and take a look around this big, immersive world Blizzard created, even if you're going to go and visit old places you haven't been in a while. I know I enjoy returning to places like this from time to time, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. This is a big game... i'm not too into PVP, for example, but i'm not going to go nuts over someone suggesting I should do a few BGs.

Personally, I think going to explore places like this just adds more depth to the game; especially if it's content not many people will visit nowadays (besides for the mount).

problem with this generation of gamers is simple: u all miss the POINT. if you don't get why blizz chose this or any other dungeon upcomming, then you all should quit wow and move on to some free online horrible experience.

I spent 6 months doing soloing the first 3 bosses to get the rifle for transmog... it took me about half an hour ... wont this take like 10 minutes for the whole dungeon with a load of 85s? the only time consuming bit might be chess... even that is soloable...pointless challenge

I agree that there is little point in doing it, it is soloable, apart of the chess event maybe, which is just much easier with two. If they changed the lock-out on it at least, it would make sense to farm a mount, but if it is still on the usual lock-out, it is well... fun for half an hour and that's it.

Even now I still love Karazhan, heck I love most raids, its about the people you bring with you and whilst it can be solo'd (something I have done) it is not the same as having a laugh with friends and sharing a joke. Sure loot and achievements are all well and good, but for me, its the people I raid with that make it what it is. =)

all i need from karazhan is Panzar'thar Breastplate off nightbane. other than that i just try to farm for blacksmith recipes like the korium champion i its still in the game... and its a fun instance with some nice loots i will want for some of my alts. plus using the summer event for karazhan will give me a chance to find the last piece of armor and get the guild achivements
