St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® Charity Auction: Thank You!

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® Charity Auction: Thank You!

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the World of Warcraft® community around the world who took part in our recent server-blade charity auction, we’ve raised more than $330,000 USD to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.

In October 2011, we announced that a selection of retired World of Warcraft server blades -- hardware that once housed World of Warcraft realms -- would be made available for auction for this great cause, and you responded by opening up your hearts and your guild banks. Thanks again for your support and for helping to make a difference in the lives of children.

Great job Blizzard and the community, and it's a shame that there's people like me who couldn't buy it due to certain circumstances, otherwise there'd be much more gold in the pot :) Oh, and the fact that they sold something for money to give to charity was even better, since most people doesn't simply give money.

It's a great thing the community has done and all respect to blizzard for doing it. But out of respect for the charity if blizzard cared as much as the community did they could have at least matched what we earned or if not matched it donated half.

Everyone who donated you are what keep peoples spirits high, Good job!

@Jeynack: not really a success at all, blizzard surely earns $300,000 in a week? all they done was auction a bunch of scrap metal which the generous public paid for to create the charity's earning. this is stupid if you ask me. blizzard should pay a month of their own earnings to a charity, not use sheep to do it for them. I'm not buying it at all

@Hariberu: they are in bisness to make monny not to spend monny what won't make profit.

sorry if I'm wrong, blizzard auctioned these out and we paid out a total of $330,000 to charity right? so what did blizzard give from their own pocket?

@Hjadlha: ...those server blades aren't worth crap, I could auction my used boxers for a million USD of yours / the public's money... that isn't giving anything lol

@Hariberu: And im sure you've never once gave something to charity. Judging about such things, people who don't give themselves discuss such things.

@Hariberu: i agree in some aspects of what you are saying but not all, you see the charity still received to said money so albeit its not from there pockets but they organised it!! without them the charity wouldn't have got the money people can be inconsiderate and don't like 'giving' but buying seems fine to them.

@Hariberu: Blizzard is still a company striving maximum profit, simple as it is. Why would they just give money away?

@Hariberu: Dude they made a small fraction and gave it to charity i make sure there is always a small fraction not alot as i dont earn much but enough going to charity. You need to lighten up. Players like you make these forums depressing.

@Holyrocket: you have missed a point.. it aint blizzard that is the kind one.. its the community/people that is buying used server blades and to those I give a standing ovation.. ofc blizzard could sell them as scrap and make a very very small profit from it to a scrapyard so ofc blizzard is giving away a very small amount as well and without them there wouldnt be any charity of this magnitude from the community either
