Introducing the Guild Mentoring Program

Azeroth -- It’s a land of turmoil, harsh and unyielding for heroes of the Horde and the Alliance as they struggle against enemies from within and without. For those stepping forth for the first time into this implacable realm, life can seem overwhelming, but surviving in this hostile environment is not insurmountable with a little help. Will your band of brothers and sisters, heroes and mentors, heed your call for aid?
Azeroth needs more heroes to rise through the ranks and your guild can help. We’re looking for a few good guilds to volunteer for the new Guild Mentoring Program. Guilds participating in the program will take part in identifying new players within selected realms, offering to invite them into the guild, and teaching them the ways of Azeroth as they level and reach the end game content.
F.A.Q.
Q. What is the Guild Mentoring Program?
A. The guild mentoring program identifies guilds on select realms to act as mentors for new and low level players (below level 85).
Q. How long does the Guild Mentoring Program run for?
A. The Guild Mentoring Program will run for a period of three months from the time that guilds are selected and notified.
Q. Is there a certain criteria for being selected as a mentoring guild?
A. Guilds must meet certain criteria to be considered for the Guild Mentoring Program:
- Guilds must be located on one of the selected realms.
- They must be willing to commit to the program for a three month period.
- They must be willing to change their name for the three month Guild Mentoring participation period. (Names will be changed back at the end of the program.)
- Guilds must be at least level 6 and have an active membership.
Q. How many guilds will be recruiting per realm?
A. Only one guild will be selected per faction on each realm.
Q. What does my guild need to do to volunteer?
A. The guild leader will need to submit an application to community-EN@blizzard.com with the following information:
- Please use the "[Guild Mentoring]" tag in the subject line of your email
- Current guild name and guild leader name
- Current realm and faction of the applying guild
- Current guild level and number of guild members
- Guild leader’s real name and phone number (this information will not be published and is for internal use only)
- Brief description of the Mentoring Guild and a link to your guild's website, if applicable.
Q. How long are you accepting applications for?
A. We will be accepting applications for two weeks. We will then select a guild for the Guild Mentoring Program from those that meet the criteria and contact the guild leader.
Q. On what realms will this program be available?
A. Mentoring guilds will be chosen for the following realms:
| EN Realms | DE Realms | FR Realms |
|---|---|---|
| Thunderhorn | Thrall | Hyjal |
| Azuremyst | Alleria | Dalaran |
| Lightbringer | Malygos | Eversong |
| Aggramar | Arygos | |
| Stormrage | ||
| Aszune |
Q. Do participating guilds get anything special?
A. Some of the benefits for taking part in the program include:
- MVP status on the forums for the guild leader and recruitment officer
- Guild member private forum access
- Recognition for your guild as being participants in the program

Unless this system you are working on now is going to reward them in a way.
In other words we do not need it.

And why are you going out of your way to force people into guilds, Blizzard?
In all the years that I've played I've never had need to be in a guild, and the couple times that I have been "persuaded" into a guild, the experience has left a lot of bad memories.
I do not want the first thing I see when I create a fresh new character be a guild invite out of nowhere.
So right from the start you are going to force people into a guild they may not feel at home in, just for the sake of being in a guild because according to you everyone should be in a guild and raid endlessly?

Personally I'd love for my guild to be in the mentoring program as I enjoy helping other people with the game and I know alot of my guildmates would enjoy it aswell.
So please, Blizzard, introduce this program for all realms and not just the highly populated ones.

tryin to make it too easy to play ?? ... maybe its just me but everything seems to be being made easier .. changes to talent tree and such ... if they want mentors do it like other games have .. say Aion .. they have Mentor quests daily .. maybe something like that ... the mentor gains no xp but the mentee gets full xp so havin a higher lvl with you for that quest detracts nothing .... or maybe have some starter realms where people can learn to play on an 'easy' mode then come and join in on the normal stuff when ready .. maybe i'm just old and grumpy :)

Now Blizz, in an attempt to scoop up all that lost revenue, wants to exploit it's already paying customers by making it look cool and giving a few selects some silly MVP status.
The only thing you have to ask yourself is; Would more people playing wow and giving Blizz their money benefit me in any way? I suppose it could enhance the wow community and give us more ppl to play with. Personally I don't care but perhaps you do.

@Ahile: You're dripping condescension there, careful. Just because a guild is not in the top ten raiding guilds on their realm or, Heaven forbid, doesn't even raid at all, it doesn't mean that it's "mediocre". It just means they don't value the same things you do.

@Ikkitousen: The "payment" isn't particularly enticing. I doubt that's compelling any guilds to participate, especially since the big "reward" is MVP status on the Blizzard forums for up to 3 guild members and having your guild renamed. Therefore, the majority of guilds opting to participate will be doing so for other reasons. I'd like to think it's because they value helping people -- and perhaps they were already doing this anyway but will take the opportunity to do it on a much larger scale . Some, however, are probably doing it because they see it will increase their own guild's membership. No doubt there are other reasons too, but because they're "paid"… doubtful!

I don't want to join a guild at the moment - certainly not one that pesters me to join when I've just logged on or uses a bot programme to spam invites
