Prepare to Meet Your Mentors: Guild Mentoring Program

Prepare to Meet Your Mentors: Guild Mentoring Program

We recently introduced the Guild Mentoring Program and asked for a few great guilds to volunteer their time and services. The call was heard and answered with many potential candidates sending in their applications to do their part.

After further scrutiny, gazing at crystal balls, and a visit to the Darkmoon Faire (we love the food), we have called forth the following guilds:

Thunderhorn
Alliance - The One

Azuremyst
Horde - Life Begins
Alliance - Vice Versa

Lightbringer
Horde - The Fearless
Alliance - Chaotic Good

Aggramar
Horde - Warseeker Tribe
Alliance - Enigma

Stormrage
Horde - Wombles of the World
Alliance - Order of Gray

Aszune
Horde - Broken Faith
Alliance - Mea Culpa

For more information on the Guild Mentoring Program, please read the FAQ.

I wonder if anyone in Blizzard can respond to this question.....Is there any plans to increase the Guild member cap in the near future. We regularly hit 1000 members and have to prune out the non-players to make way for new members. Also - I am unable to access the private forum - where this question is may be more appropriate. Many thanks guys

As you see there is many social/leveling guilds that act as a mentor guild for new players and that has been the case for as long as I can remember playing. What does this mean for those guilds? This is going to make it increasingly harder for other guilds to get members as the new players will want to join the guild that blizzard has selected to mentor them. This doesn't actually mean that Blizzards mentoring guild is any better than any other guild as it's just the same guild it always was. It would be different if this guild had blizzard staff in it that were helping but it's just regular players that have been given a bit of recognition by blizzard. I'm not on board with this new idea at all.. all that your doing is sticking a label on a guild that have been doing the same as many others have been for years.

tried to join a mentor guild after reading this. and was ignored, lowest level was a 33, i had loads of offers from other random guilds, do i just join a random guild ? thought this was supposed to help people like me, maybe when you make a character blizzard informs you of this mentor guild before other randoms get you

Al thought i would never participate in a program like this , i understand its usage. However, blizzard should have picked guilds/player with proven game experience to make it more 'legit' . A new player soon will ask something in the guild like 'what's the optimal glyph/spec rotation vs [type of mob] on that [ randomraid ] , or if you are in a PVP-mode playstyle, "whats the best 3v3 for my shadowpriest vs [ random 3v3 here ] " , and a gazillion other advanced questions that come in mind. So long story short, the experience of the players in the mentor-program guild should be really in mentor-level .

Aside from that 'flaw', i really think the newcomers should find a decent home to start their journey in wow.

@Xeonix: Blizzard did pick guilds and players with proven experience, if you had talked to any of the guilds you would of seen this. From my interaction with many of the Gms and even been able to see guild chat a lot of the players have tons of experience. Not all of them but every player adds there own little bit to the game, tbh i think a new player into the game would like a slow introduction into the game then a Hard Core learn it fast or get out the guild experience.

Hi all, i would just like to forward a few things which we are seeing on Aszune and maybe put forward a idea for which may work regarding new players. We are seeing a huge amount of alts being created at the moment on Aszune, which are not in need of any help as they know how the game works, could it be a idea for blizz to try and incorporate something in the login screen where people can actually state there a new player, then automatically join the mentoring guild.?
I would also like to state the response we are getting from mains, alts across aszune is: its a fantastic idea and should of been organised a lot early on in the game. so not much negativity at all, which is good :)

@Terenia: Thats great to hear we did suggest that our selfs to blizz to add it to the launcher for new players as many don't really use the forums, on Stormrage were running into a phew problems but with the help of the community (players like your self and Blizzard) we are sorting these problems and getting into the swing of this great opportunity Blizzard has provided =). Also we would love to hear form you it be a great chance to talk with other players =D All the best with your endeavors

@Terenia: We'd noticed that too and we had a cunning plan that might not have occurred to you yet. We check their gear for heirlooms either via the Armoury (if they're high enough level already) or in-game inspection. If they're wearing heirlooms, they're probably not new players.

Good luck with your program on Aszune.

@Crazycakes: I was just coming here to add that, having just seen it. That's a useful consequence of the account-wide achievements/titles.

Also, if they belong to a well-established guild on the realm, they're probably not new either.

@Elshianna: Greetings. You know… You look a lot like me.

I would like to say hello to all fellow members taking part in this project, we were all picked because we blizzard felt we can help new people and even people that aren't to understand the game better, to this I would like to say all the best of luck to all of us and any guild looking to help us in this program I would believe is more then welcome to help the guilds on there realm.

I am sorry but this isn't a question of "helping people". The guys that got it on my server don't want to "help" people, they want to be recognised.

I am sorry but this whole farce is another way of hopped up egos to feel even more entitled, than they already are. This is certainly the situation on my server and i suspect on others too. Me and a good portion of our server disapprove of this!

@Baroque: Really sorry to hear you feel this way, Maybe the guild just need a little time to get used to the situation (remember we are all new to this).

Our guild on Aszune have been chatting to many low level players and inviting them to come along and we have a team of people willing to give any advice they need. We are even setting up a guild event over Mumble for the new guys to join in and ask any questions etc. All in all our guild see this as a fun project and a chance to give new players some of the advice we never got ourselves when we started playing :)

this is probably one of the better things that blizz have introduced in a while, if you ask me one guild on each faction on every server (changing the guild once every few months?) is a good idea for the future.

PS: hvis det er noen norske på serveren Twisting-nether, som leter etter en guild med ett godt sosialt miljø og hvor folk er hjelpsome, ta kontakt med augmented reality!

Heyy Guys,
I’d just like to say grats to all the guilds chosen to take part in what I personally think is a great idea, those representatives that have taken part in this forum so far have sounded courteous, friendly, and helpful, what more could you ask from a guild or its members ?
I’ve been with the same guild for over 6 years now, I’ve watched friendships grow, relationships develop ( one even progressing to marriage !! ) and we even now participate in regular guild meets once a year :-)
For some I am sure a guild is “a means to an end” to others it is much, much, more, for me it just makes an enjoyable experience even more enjoyable, I play for fun, and being a Dad, and hubby obviously I want to make the most out of the limited time I get to play and a guild helps me achieve that, I play with a philosophy where I treat everyone in a manner in which I would hope to be treated myself and that seems to work for me most of the time !!
I’m printing off the list of guilds taking part in the mentoring programme, you all sound really friendly and it’s always nice making new friends and meeting new peeps, I might poke one of you for an invite if that would be ok ;-)
Good Luck to all the participants, I’m sure there will be interesting and fun times ahead !! x

@Shimerstaff: I do quite a bit of WoW-related research. A guild that's lasted 6 years is really good compared to the average time guilds persist. You've been very fortunate. My guild has been organizing real-life meets on/off for the last 5 or 6 years. In fact, I should be finalizing the details for this year's right now. (-:

Thanks for your kind words and enjoy your travels in Azeroth with your guild.

Excellant idea! I didn't know what trolling was until I joined WOW. I used to shy away from dungeons because as an older player I wasn't as adept as some of the younger players and I still struggle with some aspects. Good luck and lets hope you make it a pleasant experience for everyone.
