[guide] Wargames. A Roleplaying tool.
*Island of Conquest includes not only siege vehicles [including catapults wherein characters can catapult themselves onto or over battlements and other scenery], but airships as well, accessed by player characters for gunnery or parachute assault. The path of the Horde airship takes it in view of the docks, for example, 'though not close, and also near the quarry, 'though not directly above. All people on the airship are granted the parachute ability. The parachute deploys once you leap off the airship, and lasts until you land ... on something. With only modest amounts of practice, one can parachute into the opposing keep's courtyard without waiting for the gates to fall. You are also able to cast and attack players as you are falling down. The Isle of Conquest Siege Engine has the most active positions of any current World of Warcraft siege vehicle: Driver, Main turret gunner, and Two side turret gunners. Oh man. Thanks for reminding me of these functions. Will definitely do some sort of event that employs them in the future. |

A small content /bump. Whilst looking for coverage of a different RP event, I found this, from summer 2011:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXr4LUCNvCc War for Alterac Valley, by Tinkerton. A RPPvP event on Argent Dawn EU taking place within the Alterac Valley battleground instance. A very basic taste of what can be done in /wargames. |

Of note, to add in, the two new battlegrounds from MoP give very different environment options for /wargame RP events.
Silvershard Mines is an underground tunnel fight [an environment similar to the Deadmines] over Venture Company mining resources. Sappers outside a siege? Bandits in their hideout? lots of unusual opportunities can be supported by this very different battleground environment. Temple of Kotmogu (battleground, not scenario) is a "king of the mountain" battleground set in a Pandiarian temple complex in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, and so is unique in its ability to easily convey conflict in Pandaria and not the rest of the game world. Whilst in some ways thus not as flexible as some of the other Battlegrounds, it could also well suit a training area [akin to some of the arena locations] for monks, gladiators, duellists, and the like, whilst allowing more participants per side than the largest arenas, and not [unlike actual arena /wargames] requiring a match of player numbers per side. /Wargames continue to have only one real difficulty in their RP applications, which is to say their level-grouping requirements. They remain an interesting and viable tool in the roleplayers' toolkit. |
