Ele Raid DPS is lackluster, are we forced to spec Enh?
|
Greetings.
Having downed 8/12 of the current content I have come to realize that Elemental Shaman DPS is still very lackluster in comparison to others, much like it was in 3.3. In fact, I find myself considering speccing enhancement, even though my Ele gear is very competitive indeed. I have literally no Enh gear stocked up, but I'd rather gear up for a superior spec than sit around and wait for Blizzard to fix Elemental DPS. Let's take a look at World of Logs: http://worldoflogs.com/rankings/players/Bastion_of_Twilight/Valiona_&_Theralion/10N/Elemental_Shaman/ Now, I normally don't like looking at the #1 DPS, because that usually entails unrealistically optimal conditions, and possibly a lot of RNG in the #1's favor. So let's take a look at some of the #30 DPSers for Valiona & Theralion in the Bastion of Twilight. I know, I know, with all the running around it's not a very ranged-friendly fight, so let's take a look at ranged classes only. Bear in mind that Cata fights include a _lot_ of running, so just comparing tank&spank turret DPS wouldn't be a realistic model of a raid environment. Survival Hunter: 17.5k Destruction Warlock: 17k Shadow Priest: 15k Balance Druid: 15k Fire Mage: 14.6k Elemental Shaman: 13.4k I only included one spec from each class to keep the list relatively compact. I don't think you need my aid in noticing a trend here. I do understand that the shaman is a hybrid class, and I don't mean to compete with pure classes in DPS, but being over 4k behind the top DPS is a little much. The other hybrids (priests+druids) are sitting on a respectable 15k DPS, yet we're 1.6k behind. That's over 10%, a _huge_ difference. I don't claim this to be an exhaustive examination of Elemental DPS, but take a look at the logs for various different raid encounters, you'll discover the same trend. My improvement suggestion to bring us on-par with the other Hybrids, is to tweak our Mastery sufficiently, or to e.g. move the talent Searing Flames into Tier 2 of the Enhancement tree to make it available to Elementals. Maybe switch it's places with Flurry or Elemental Devastation, which are both useless to both Ele and Resto. Is this being looked at, or is Elemental a dead spec much like Beast Mastery, Arcane, Marksmanship, etc.? I'm finding it hard to justify the raid leader bringing me into the raid instead of a different class that deals superior DPS just because of class mechanics. P.S. I'd like to clarify that this thread is about raid encounter performance _only_, NOT Heroic Dungeon performance. I find myself consistently topping, or at least being tied for the first place in damage done in heroics; 16-20k DPS is easily attainable on most bosses. In raids it's an entirely different story, sadly. |

Well, i've said it once on this boards somewhere, but it doesn't hurt to be said twice. I've cleared 11/12 current content, on 25man mostly, and i find myself in the top 5 most of the time. You can go browse our logs @ http://worldoflogs.com/guilds/45387/ if you are interested. As you said it, and you nailed it, our biggest problem is movement. If we are stationary, its okay. Now, i don't see ele shamans topping the meters any time soon, if they ever will. After you lern a fight, know its mechanics, and know how to bring your moving around to the bare minimum, things will get better. There is something i would tweak around for elemental, and that would be Spiritwalker's Grace.
Since it should not be OP for pvp, there are two options imo: 1) Make it reduce the CD significantly when you blow a 9 stacked fulmination. 2) Make it passive as long as you have 9 stacks of fulmination. It might look op to you, but in fact you have to sacrifice fulmination damage to be mobile, still i have some concerns about this about pvp, but i bealieve it can be tweaked. |

I dont care what those random meters tell me they said the same in wrath, I will top the meters as im used to the only concern i have is WHY doesn't fulmination have an animation!!!!

Right. So either you outgear everyone else by miles, or you raid with incompetent DPS. World of Logs link (or similar) to back up your claim please. Do note I'm talking about _raid_ dps, not heroics. |

/care i start raiding in january dont remove the important part if you qoute me. Dps does not matter animation for fulmination does! Because dps is competative and i sincerely doubt that you're 2-3k dps behind unless you're either playing wrong or have some special assignement in an already movement heavy fight. Like interupting! But time will tell. Until then fulmination. Animation. |

It could automatically trigger whenever you reach the 9th stack. Meaning it still is only 10s duration, but it doesn't meddle with the actual CD on the actual SG.
Player skill > character balance in every raid except a fraction at the top so small it really doesn't matter to the forum population or the ingame population at large. Only 2% can be in the top 2%. ;) |

I don't want to be rude, but i played in Argent Dawn before transferring for good. I was used to top the dmg meters there, and when i joined a decent guild i actually saw what the reality is. That being said, you should not top any damage meters if you have decent people in the guild. I don't want to take away from your player skills, but i'm _pretty_ sure ele is not designed to top meters. |

Claiming that the whole realm is full of bad players is good for what? I don't claim to outdps everyone at every single fight. Some fights favor us over others, other fights favor them. Besides If you werent in TFR or Alter Ego's raid force you can't really say anything about the players skill on Argent Dawn. |
