Outlands is outdated.

Ok here is my problem.
1-60 questing is absolutely outstanding. I made a Dwarf Shaman on the day of the 4.0.3a patch and got him from 1-60. I loved every minute of it (Westfall, Redridge, Western PL, Swamp of Sorrows, Burning Steppes and Blasted Lands were all amazing) I thoroughly enjoyed it. Then I got to outland and it changed from epic to mind numbingly boring. With the exception of first stepping through the dark portal and the entirety of Zangamarsh, Outlands is a joke. I had fully intended getting my Shaman to 80 before Cata hit but at level 66 I thought why should I even bother, I don't want to play a video game that I'm not enjoying. Even though I had only two levels left till Northrend I just did not want to waste another 2 hours of my life on utterly boring content, So my Shaman has been sitting at lvl 66 for a few months now and have no intention of playing it again. Say if I was a new player I would have to buy the original game to get from 1-60. No problems there. However I would have to pay for BC and Wrath to get to level 80 before I can start Endgame content in Cata. All they are getting out of those 2 expansions is a painful grind to try and get through the content without shooting yourself. Why on earth should anyone be expected to pay for what is ultimately 12 hours worth of boring quests. BC and Wrath endgame content is obsolete now, So are all the other features in that expansion. Would it be so hard to make the 1-60 content on azeroth 1-70. I mean in Azeroth you can get from 50-60 in a few hours or so, why not make all the new 1-60 content 1-70 instead and leave Outlands for people who want to farm Netherweave cloth or re-do old 70 raids. It is unfair to give people a great 1-60 experience then expect them to go back to mediocrity. If I was a new customer I would be outraged that I had to pay for the burning crusade expansion. It's not even an expansion anymore, It's basically bad content jammed either side of great content. I feel to fix this problem 1 of 3 things should be done. 1. Make 1-60 content 1-70 2. Re-do Outland Quests into something that doesn't suck 3. Nerf the exp needed so much that I can hit 60, Go straight to Zangamarsh and hit 70 when I leave. |

Yep, Outlands has always been dissapointment, ugly places, it's like game thief 1 first levels are so awesome, later leves are like having having drugs and wondering why everything is flying and colorful

Only nice zones in Outland are Zangarmarsh and Nagrand rest is fail...and questing there is boring my tip is to spec resto and skip outland by doing dungeons..or run bgs during call to arms is fun also..

I didnt even find zangarmarsh fun. Outland is the reason I have like 7 level 6-62 chars I dont level on. When they remade level 1-60 with new quests it shouldnt be a problem to redo 60-70. And maybe 70-80 also so we have an entire new game. Northrend where too very boring.

Indeed. I myself cannot complain about Zangamarsh, the area is great and the quests are above average compared to the other 60-70 content. Nagrand, although a great looking place, is too much of a grind.
The Quests in Nargrand consist of; Kill 20 Celfthoof Kill 20 Angry Clefthoof Kill 20 Even angrier Clefthoof Kill Mr. Bigshot Clefthoof Rinse and repeat with another species of animal. The Ring of Blood is a decent quest chain, however it can be difficult to get 4-5 players together including a tank and healer when hardly anyone is in that zone. Outland was in the past anyway, We have already killed Illidan etc so making alts revisit it goes against the story flow anyway. Perhaps shoving an Outland portal somewhere in the corner of the Caverns of Time and letting players revisit it if they really want to and making 1-60 into 1-70. Then Blizzard can re-do Outland for a future expansion and spice it up with their new phasing technology and give the zones better graphics |

- Exp is alredy nerfed.
- There's heirlooms to make it even quicker. - There's a 5% extra exp bonus, if your guild is lvl 2 or more, which just about all guilds are now. - You can leave Outland at 68, that's when Northrend quests opens. Don't know why you're all whining, Outland isn't that bad. And it certainly dosn't take long to get to 70, even without added exp benefits. |

I agree group quests are so annoying since there is hardly anyone around, I'm glad there is only one group quest in the Cata areas, and that's the Crucible of Carnage

i have a quicker way you could dungeon spam to 70, in northrend dungeon spam to 80. loads of people do it. ty it its really fun plus you feel youve acomplished somthing with all the dungeon ahi you have.
i tried it with a few quests in the middle and i was 68 in no time at all. Try it, its worth the worth the waiting. |

I recently got into WoW a couple of weeks ago so post-Cataclysm WoW is all I've experienced.
1-60 was a breeze, especially since I have a lot of free time at the moment. The quest chains were fun to follow and gradually moved me through each area, eventually taking me into new zones etc. It was a smooth process and it didn't feel particularly grindy, my only complaint is that since leveling 1-60 is so fast, items become redundant in a matter of hours. For players who have seen it all and done it all before this wont be a concern, but for new players like me I think the game loses some of the magic when my brand new weapon I quested for at level 20 becomes obsolete in literally 5 hours or less. EG. As a Paladin I wanted to collect the chains of the scarlet crusader because it seemed like a good set and also because I thought it looked cool. After grinding the armoury and the cathedral for a couple of evenings I'd only managed to get 3 pieces and by that point I'd reached level 40 and was upgrading to plate. I lost 6 rolls on the Tabard. T_T Outland is... not so enjoyable. The whole place feels like it lacks "direction", I'm getting sent backwards and forwards to different NPCs every 30 minutes and one quest even had me going back to the blasted lands which was extremely irritating because the NPC was on the faaaaaar side of the zone from the portal. Even with crusader aura it took forever to fly there and back again. I've found myself abandoning several quests in Outland because they're simply not worth the travel time. It doesn't feel like I'm following a particular arc, it just feels like I'm blundering around until I bump into the next quest giver. Also the difference in quest item drop rates is rather noticeable. I needed to gather 30 feathers from those bird-men and I swear I must have cleared out one of their villages at least 4 or 5 times before I finally got 30 feathers. I know that game mechanics > realism, but it's really, really stupid when you kill a giant bird-man and he doesn't drop a single feather. The main advantage of Outland is that the dungeons feel more challenging (No maps... really, Blizzard?) although this comes with its own problem: Bad players. I've had more wipes in 1 day playing TBC than I had in my entire experience playing in classic dungeons. A few observations include; 1. Warrior/DKs specced for DPS queuing as tank, probably to get a group faster. 2. Tanks in full heirloom gear over-pulling because they think they're invincible 3. DPS in full heirloom gear going all-out to top DPS charts and refusing to control aggro. Also a bit of a nit-pick... why the hell can't I find a decent two handed hammer or sword for a Retadin? The weapon I've got currently is better than anything else I can find, but it looks like an over-sized tooth pick. :p I think my favourite part of Outlands has been reading the quest logs and finding out about the lore of the Outland races, but I REALLY don't look forward to questing there with another character. If/when I level another toon I'll avoid questing and just grind random dungeons. |

I have barely quested in Outland, I literally did what was necesary there to jump to Northerend. All I can say is for a chunk of time I wish i didnt mine & skin ... I hate not levelling professions with quests horrid, I did as little questing there as possible then flew around to finish levelling the minning ... and to make a few £'s in the AH!

I created this priest and 1-60 was amazing! I loved it, I did all dungeons (minus Upper Blackrock Spire), I quested in a few zones with funny and interactive quests (Eastern Plaguelands was my favorite) and while I was doing Blasted Lands all I wanted was to pass through the portal... And when I did, I felt a bit disappointed, the instances werent mapped, the quest givers weren't in the beginning... The quests weren't exactly exciting... Cataclysm changed the face of the world forever, the world being Azeroth, and Outlands stayed exactly the same as it was before.
Edit: But in face of all that I'm not that disappointed, I think that there are some enjoyable quests and other not so enjoyable, but I don't want to look at the Outlands as something I have to pass through quickly, I'm gonna try and do the same thing as I did in Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor I'm gonna quest and do dungeons. |

Are you kidding? Complaining over having to fly half a zone? If that's too "faaaaaar" for you to travel to do a quest, then you're too lazy for this game. I've found myself abandoning several quests in Outland because they're simply not worth the travel time. This, plus why the hell can't I find a decent two handed hammer or sword for a Retadin? I see a connection. Do you? Hint: a lot of the goodies comes from chains where you must travel quite a lot. Btw, to both of you who are complaining about lack of maps in Outland instances: There wasn't maps for Azeroth instances either earlier, but Blizzard added them. It's not *that* long ago. They'll probably do the same in Outland later. Not a problem - if maps are that important to you, get Atlas or a similar addon. |
|

Agreed.
And Blizzard even do acknowledge this. Maybe they will renew Outland and Northrend to the current 1-60 and 81-85 content standard with the next expansion? In the meantime I'll probably do some dungeons/PvP and then grind some of the quests in Outland. |
|
|
Huh? You actually need a map for the dungeons? At least the two first (Hellfire Ramparts and Blood Furnace) don't even offer multiple routes anywhere... |
|
I managed to get from 60-70 in Outland without too many troubles, before WotLK came out. But, as you can see, I've not got very far through Northrend's set of quests as they're just.. not fun. Outland did have that 'we ran out of ideas so now there's lots of colour because we're on drugs' feel, but I was quite happy with it. And I'm not really a dungeon player unless I can find a group for the sweet rewards.
I'll see what it's like second time around with my new DK, though, if it feels any worse. I'd imagine the next expansion would be another set of Outland continents appearing for 85-90 content, along with the fabled Demon Hunter hero class to go smack the Burning Legion again. Having recently rolled a Paladin blueside, I'm very much enjoying Elwynn's mild tinkering, turning Westfall into CSI:Azeroth, Lakeshire into Rambo/A-Team and Darkshire's Worgen invasion. Definitely a nice theme and set of quest chains running through them. Stranglethorn next! |

Reading comprehension not your strong point? The Quest NPC is on one side of Hellfire Peninsula, the portal is on the other plus I had to travel 1/2 way across the Blasted Lands and back again. So total distance travelled was roughly 3 zones, just to collect a poxy jug of beer and get the NPC to "trust" me with generic "go kill 20 mobs" quests.
Nope. I've completed roughly 150 quests in Outland and so far the only quests to offer me a decent weapon was the Ring Of Blood and Sekketh halls. Browsing through WoW Armoury, it seems that the vast majority of 2 handed maces/swords between 60-70 are either bought with pvp currency or created by players with smithing. Also; Almost every single plate quest reward or drop seems to give dodge/parry OR + intellect/spirit. Out of the last 15 or so plate items I've seen drop only 2 have actually been good for melee dps... and I lost the roll on one of them to a tank who was wearing nothing but crit/hit rating items. Go figure. Huh? You actually need a map for the dungeons? At least the two first (Hellfire Ramparts and Blood Furnace) don't even offer multiple routes anywhere... It's more an issue of lazyness on their part. EDIT: Decided to try the WoTLK 10 day trial. First 2 quest rewards; A nice 2 handed sword and some pauldrons with strength and crit chance. Typical. |
Yeah I know that, wasn't really thinking about what I said but I said that because after three months without playing I come back, create this priest and suddenly instances are mapped, I found it a nice addition, I guess I was just expecting that the Outlands instances would also be mapped =) I get spoiled easily xD |

Outland would be better if you could start any other zone than HP or ZM at level 60.
And Northrend has great quests you've just done them all too much. |
