Helping you PvE dps.

I have very little experience playing a rogue, but a lot of experience playing the game and other classes.
If you are having trouble with your rogue and you don't understand why here is some stuff that might help you, as it did for me: http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/ovale.aspx This addon helps you with your rotation and it helps you get into the habit of pooling your energy before you use a finisher. It's easy to use and doesn't take up a lot of space it also shows you when to start using backstab which is just awesome. You need 17% hit or as close to it as possible, reforge all your gear to hit, get hit items etc. Mastery is what you want afterwards, you should reforge all gear you have to mastery if you can't reforge it to hit, if it already has those stats then just leave it be. Rotation, open with garrote, then mutilate to get 3-4 cp > use SnD > 4-5 point rupture > 4-5 point envenom. Using rupture before SnD will mean you might not get as many envenoms in a duration of a rupture which personaly from my experience results in a dps loss. On a side note I find the energy system rather counter intuitive, rather than hit a button as soon as you have enough energy for it you have to wait to hit it so you can continue building combo points fast enough afterwards. Forget about expertise, it's just not worth it as assassination. Use deadly poison on your throwing and offhand wep, instant on your main hand, get a 1.40 speed offhand and a slow mainhand. Also Shiv dispels enrage effects, I didn't know that until I found out anasthetic poisons were removed from game and I moused over shiv. Another thing couple of things are use feint when you're pooling energy for a finisher and pop tricks when you start your 'bursting' phase of your rotation so as not to pull agro off the tank. |

If u seriously mean that expertise isnt worth for assassination and can find some link to actually prove it ill KILL YOU!!!! (I wont for realz pls dont call the cops) But goddamn, so much headdache getting both expertise and hit caps :p and according to pverogues.com The prio is to be both expertise and hit capped before starting to put mastery ;p

Why expertise kinda sucks for a mutilate rogue
Firstly, all you lose is 20% of your energy and a GCD on an ability. Secondly, envenom gives the buff regardless of whether it goes off or not. All you've lost is the 7 energy and the GCD, so you can pool energy for another envenome while you wait for the buff to wear off, or hit it again to refresh SnD. Lastly, mut doesn't get too much from its auto attack- white hit is only worth .75 of a point of hit rating. With a rather minimal effect on abilities (we don't go on cooldown if they get dodged), and half of your main finisher provided whether or not it connects, it's not worth much on abilities. Also, EJ says it's not as good as poison hit, mastery or haste. It's been mathed out. http://elitistjerks.com/f78/t110016-cataclysm_raiding_faq_updated_12_21_10_a/ is your friend. |

Link: http://elitistjerks.com/f78/t110134-assassination_guide_cata/#Stats_and_Gearing Expertise cap: Also, look at EP values:
Yellow hit = 1.75 EP Spell hit = 1.4 EP Mastery = 1.3 EP Haste = 1.2 EP Expertise = 1.1 EP Crit = 0.9 EP White hit = 0.75 EP Expertise isn't worth getting specifically really. |
Expertise is essential to Combat afaik, but not for muti. |

Reforging to reach the poison/spell hit cap for bosses will hurt your dps in heroics and on trash by quite a considerable amount.
Quite frankly assassination single target dps on bosses is fine without putting all you stats into hit, mastery has roughly the same benefit as hit (after the special ability hit cap) and will up your damage in all circumstances, not just on raid bosses. That is something to have in mind when considering things like this. |
