Hey Guild Masters! I made an addon for you!

Bit of background:
I've been the guild master of a PvP guild for a few years now, and as we have quite a few members, I find I hard to keep track of every player in order to check if they are benefiting the guild, and whether or not to promote them. I was spending far too much time with guild administration, so I decided to try and code an addon to help me out a bit. I've just finished it, and I'd like to share it, maybe it can help other people as much as it already helps me. The Addon It's currently in beta, which means that for the most part it all works as I want it to, and I've fixed as many bugs as I can possibly find on my own. You can find it at wowinterface: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=18942 or curse: http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/guild-master-suite.aspx (the newest version on curse is currently awaiting approval) What it does: It consists of a number of modules which do different things, I'll breifly go through each below: GM-Sync Stores extra info about each guild member, including: GM-Stats Shows all of the data collected for each guild member in a list, so that you can see the highest done per day/week/month. GM-Locator Shows guild members on the world map GM-Forum Adds a forum to the guildframe, which syncs between members so that you can still see posts that were created while you were offline GM-AntiRankSpam Filters and condenses the system messages when member ranks are changed. GM-Ranker Currently still under development, automatically rank guild members according to certain criteria, eg level, amount donated, guild chattyness. GM-Event Instantly create a guild event, and invite any members that are not currently busy. GM-Recruit Auto announce guild recruitment messages every X minutes. Future Plans GM-Banker: Show the guild bank away from the guild bank. auto sort the guild tabs by certain criteria, eg item level/type/worth And a few other modules which you can read about on either website. The addon works better the more members you have. The best bit is that I'm still developing the addon, and I'm happy to add in any features that you feel would help make this addon even better! |

If half of those bits you list actually work properly, this is the best addon ever!

I was thinking, not sure about this though. Is this allowed?
GM-Locator Shows guild members on the world map As far I know is that both people have to have the addon to be able to appear on the map, if not and only 1 person needs it then I think it break the rules. |

its useful for every member, and it does require both players to have the addon to show them on the map

So its an add-on that spies on people ?
Doesn’t the in game ui show the players location ? Apart from some interesting but useless statistics I doubt it will be helpful. |

Altough meph usually just trolls and/or act all negative on everything, his questions holds a little value.
However locater is only one part of the addon. But yeah, even if it was presented in a trolly way all feedback comments and questions should be answered properly. |

GM-Sync Stores extra info about each guild member, including: # Time in battleground/arena/instance/raid I guess members need to install it to make it work, isn't it? Is it possible to use this if only officer and not GM? Is it possible to add members gear ilvl? |

There is a log on the guild bank
How hard is it to read ? Do you rate your members by how much time they play ? Not contributing may just mean they have other more important things to do ! Would you like your boss to have this at work ? |

Can I, as a guild member turn off my channels? Can I choose what is recorded about me?
Seems like it could be a very useful addon, but a little... Big Brother-ish... |

So its an add-on that spies on people ? I thought this was a troll post because I assumed anyone that has been in a guild for more than 5 minutes would know that other guild members are not shown on the world map, and anyone that has tried to manage a large guild would see how some extra info on players could be useful for a number of reasons. The addon only tracks info for guild members than also have the addon installed, so no, it doesn't spy on people.
Not many of the features rely on the player being GM, but some of them aren't that useful for players that aren't GM or Officer. I can add members gear item level if you'd like.
The log in the guild bank is finite, if you have a large number of guild members using guild repair, donating, and withdrawing, it can quickly become impossible to get any idea of any players overall amount donated. As well as the time it would take to go through and calculate it for every player if it were even possible. I don't personally rate members by how much time they play, a member could play for 8 hours and contribute to the guild as a while less than another member that plays for 20 minutes. This doesn't mean that it isn't interesting so see which guild members play more arena, or more battlegrounds, or more PvE. Especially if you have separate ranks for PvP/PvE'ers Not contributing may indeed mean that they have "more important" things to do, but if they arent helping the guild in any way, why are they in it? As for the work comparison, many jobs have a clocking in and out system, which tracks how long people work for, and performance review systems, which allow harder workers to achieve promotions more quickly, which is directly analogous to better guild members receiving more guild responsibilities and perks like repairs.
Hehe, no, this isn't a Telescreen! If you do not have the addon, but someone else in your guild does, the only thing that they could be recorded about you would be how often you say stuff in guild chat (not what you say.) I can add options to disable specific data if people want them. |

Reasons to be in a guild ?
1 Some are in just for friendship. 2 Some to do group objectives as in a team this may lead to 1 This is a fantasy game not work, why would you want to make it like it ? Ok the Guild tab does not show location on the map but it does say zone or an instance Why would you want/ need to know pinpoint location ? Doesn’t gatherer do this ? not that I use it. If you want a name for it You can call it Guild snooper |

Yes, some guilds are just for socialising, but this addon clearly isn't aimed for those, as there is no need for half of the features. I didn't say I wanted to make it like work, I was just extending your analogy to prove that it fails. There is nothing in the addon that makes users have to turn up to anything at certain times, or to actually do anything that they do not want to do. It doesn't do anything that a guild master wouldn't do without the addon, it just makes it a hell of a lot easier. Pinpoint location is useful for a number of reasons, for example if you are in a full party or raid but would still like to see where another guild member outside of your group is, to trade with them or otherwise. Also it is just a nice feature to be able to see other guildies in the same zone as you, because it's much more obvious then going to the guild roster, sorting by zone, and looking at who is in the same zone as you. I've already had plenty of guild members spot me on the map, then fly over to say hey, just because of the novelty of being able to see each other. As for your hilarious name for the addon, you seem to either be confusing the meanings of spying/snooping, or just incapable of reading properly. The addon does not "spy" on anyone, it is the members choice whether or not to install the addon, and there is a full and comprehensive list of the stats being tracked on the addon page, the about.txt file included within the addon, and the stats frame which shows the player their stats as well as other guild members stats. Maybe you should also go and complain to the author of recount for "snooping" on party member information and displaying the damage done, or the author of auctioneer for "spying" on the auction house. |

When you have over 400 guildies, all able to use repairs and lots of people donating to the bank, you want to be able to see who's giving so you can thank them.
One of our guildies donating some BOE plate legs which were selling on the AH for 32k. It was only luck that I saw it and could make a very public declaration of thanks. If I'd have waited half an hour before checking the bank, I wouldn't have seen it. I down loaded this addon last week, and although it doesn't do what I'm needing right now, I'm waiting to see what the next update does. No, I don't want to spy on the guildies, but yes, I want to be able to see who is helping out and who just taking and taking... Thanks to Kraftman for trying to make our jobs easier. |
