DONT be a nub.
Ask and you shall find an answer, there's plenty of people out there who are willing to help. Here's a few tips on what NOT to do when joining the Dreaded / Loved LFG. 1 - Don't sign up as a role you aren't going to full fill. This includes the following
You should know how to handle this role somewhat before attempting it. As a tank you're supposed to soak all damage, and keep all mobs on you. ~ Signing up as a Healer without healing the party. Your role here is to keep others alive, nothing more - nothing less. ~ DPS can pretty much be done by even a Healer or Tank specced person, it'll be extremely less effective than a pure DPS person however and might therefore be looked down upon. 2 - Don't Roll on items what you're not there as, unless you ask for this in the start or when the item drops This is quite a discussed topic, but the majority have since Vanilla agreed that the common sense is to need only for the specc you're there as - unless you've been allowed otherwise. Failing to do this will most likely resort to you getting a kick for being a "ninja". 3 - Don't be immature and rude. You'll get a much more pleasant group atmosphere if you pay attention to what the others are saying, and give advices to others (if you have any) in an adult manner - Without swears and downgrading under liners. 4 - Don't go AFK without telling. The others appreciate to know whether you're there or not so they know what they can expect to happen during their next pull. If you're not there and have signed as either Tank or Healer and then go AFK without a word, this could be devastating. 5 - Don't run in blind-o. If you've never been to the instance you're currently in, it'd be best to follow the others rather than run ahead... you never know what lurks in the shadows. 6 - Don't forget the others. Is the healer ready? Are the DPS clear on what will happen? Tank, all clear? Don't forget that there's others in the party, keep an eye on them and their current activities... A healer without mana usually means a repair bill for you. 7 - DON'T PUSH THE BUTTON. Don't click ANYTHING unless you -know- what it will do. You might just be setting off a bomb. 8 - Don't pull something, unless you want to tank it Don't pull a mob unless you've been asked to, or want to tank it alone and know you can handle it, or if you ARE the tank, and possibly without getting healed at all. DPS and Healers aren't made to tank. 9 - Don't run round in circles if you have agro The tank is your friend. The tank has abilities that will grab aggro back off you. Run TO the tank if something is hitting you, and hopefully they'll be able to take the aggro from you before the mob kills you. 10 - Healing Circles = Good, DONT run out of them unless bad stuff happens For an example, Druids have a spell called "Swiftmend" - This puts a Green leafy-glowing area on the ground, everyone within this area get's healed. It's good to stand in those... Just make sure it's not a hurtful AoE-spell underneath! 11 - DONT IGNORE THE LIGHTWELL! Getting low on HP? Taking random Damage? Click the lightwell if you have a holy priest in your group, You'll make it easier for Everyone. :) This is a Lightwell: http://www.wowhead.com/spell=724 12 - Don't stand in AoE! If you're taking damage, and you see the mob twirling around with his sword... The bugs waving their claws... Something just got spat on the floor, usually a goey substance... Don't stand in it or within it's range, it's bad for your health. Last but not least - Don't be afraid to ask: It's better to be a fool for a minute, than be a fool forever. If you don't know something, whatever it might be, Ask - Decent people will answer. Not-so-decent-people won't, of course, but that's a whole other story in itself... Just don't feel stupid if you honestly don't know something about something - we've all been there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- USEFUL LINKS! http://tankspot.com/ - Useful Tactical videos for Bosses! http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2394021476 - The Slang Dictionary http://elitistjerks.com/ - Some tips about your class Decided to remove some random "Náia's-from-the-heart-speech", and add some useful links instead. Well said! +1 on everything :)

Thanks. I just hope some newcomers might read this and avoid some horrible pugging ahead with it! ;) This community needs a better spirit and ground! |

LFD in it's current state just does not work as players get pulled from the server not the realm your actually on or vice versa not too sure lol so the likly hood of seeing these players again are remote so they know there are no consequences to thier actions and continue to hide behind thier computer screens doing what the hell they like :( |

This is a nice guide, but it seems out of date. No-one bothers to talk to anyone any more; except to be rude to them. There is no communication and there is no team work.
I really wish it wasn't like that, but it is. Once again: it is a nice guide. Thanks for taking the time. Maybe you could write a "How not to be a jerk guide" for the 75% of people that I meet in dungeons. |

"It seems to be out of date" - Nah, it'll help SOMEONE out there ;)
And that's a step in the right direction. Thanks! <3 |

They won't read it or if they do they will find it amusing. Nice guide, wish more people were like this :} |
|
|
they will keep acting like this as nothing is done to them, we need to kick faster and report them or even harder reeducate them by explaining to them how to act lol

I hope we can spawn some more through this short guide, for the "future generation". :D |

Read it all, found it all quite correct and probably helpful for new players :) Ace.

Nice guide there. :)
If I may add: 8 - Don't pull something, unless you want to tank it This is aimed at the DPSers: don't pull a mob unless you want to tank it alone, and possibly without getting healed at all. The main tank is there for a reason! Ignore this if you have been designated as puller for the tank (more usual in other MMORGs than in WoW). 9 - Don't run round in circles if you have agro The tank is your friend. The tank has abilities that will grab agro back off you. Run TO the tank if something is hitting you, and hopefully they'll be able to take the agro from you before the mob kills you. |

Thanks all, and thanks Morticia!
I thought I had added the pull-thing, but it seems I had forgotten it :D I'll add both to the list! |

Thanks from a complete novice for a very helpful guide :)
That said, in relation to point 2, a little tolerance from the re-rollers/ alts towards new players would not go amiss. Miss-clicks can happen, and rather than just firing off an insult/ kick try asking if they meant to roll need on a given item.....You never know they may just apologise and trade it over. This did happen to me in my first ever dungeon run (RFC). I didn't intend to "ninja" which should of been evident from the fact I passed on every other loot roll. I was only interested in getting a feel for dungeons/ group play, and would of happily traded the item to whoever wanted it had I been given the chance. I did make a point of informing the group I was a newb before the start :P |

One other point, remember everyone has to learn.
I have a lot of DPS characters and have decide to try tanking. So I have rolled up a new warrior, speced protection talents and got a mace and shield off the AH. Now I'm starting on LFD at Ragefire chasm and hoping I can learn as I go along. No amount of reading and advise can really replace doing the job. Hopefully by the time I'm lvl 85 I'll know what to do. |

Nice effort, but...
Note how your requirements get increasingly lax from tank to dps ? That is neither true or fair. Tanks learn how to tank by tanking. They also aquire tanking gear (mostly) by tanking. So no, don't let the fact that you have no experience or gear scare you off from starting to tank, just give it a go. It's also no more acceptable not to be specced for healing or dps than it is for tanking.
This is semi-true. Keep in mind that most tank have ranged taunts, so as long as you don't run really far off it's fine. I think more important is to remind people that DPS classes can control their own aggro and have threat skills and talents of their own, that they're supposed to use. Threat is not just the buisness of one member of the party ! And to add a point of my own: crowd control is something that is part of a Damage dealer's job. Learn to CC well and be careful not to break the CC of others. |
Agreed, but I see precious little self-agro management in LFDungeons, unfortunately. The same goes for CC: the usual routine is that the tank runs into to an area, gathers up every mob they can, and then the tank and DPS do AoE totally negating any attempt at CC, until the group wipes and they blame the healer. Or maybe that's just the LFD's I seem to run into. XD |
^ This. Definitely this. :) I have a level 44 priest, and each charge of the LW heals for about 1400 over 6 seconds. Not many people use it though, even though I have a macro set informing them that they don't have to drop target to click it. |
