Quick Facts: What Not to do in LFG

8 - Don't pull something, unless you want to tank it
Don't pull a mob unless you've been asked to, or want to tank it alone and know you can handle it, or if you ARE the tank, and possibly without getting healed at all. DPS and Healers aren't made to tank. +1 Some times it can be very hard to play tank... |

DONT be a nub. Stopped reading as of this line, not simply because I don't enjoy people calling other people for "noobs" but because it's harsh to new players to be called a "noob" as they step into the world of Azeroth. Has to be one of the worst stickies I have EVER seen on a forum that explains the basic behind a game feature, whoever stickied this made a bad move. Sincerely, Neonraket |

So basically, you read the first line, and then decided that the entire post was crap? The first line is obviously added for funnies. You, my good sir, mr. Neonraket, is definitely mad. |

Since my return I have noticed a change in all areas, but I STILL see a good core fan base that strives to help the "new" player.
I'm finding PvE (Quests) rather easy, but lucky for me I have found a role I fully enjoy.. Horde discipline priest with 3 great players that managed to take time and offer superb advice in the Dungeons. This sticky helps reinforce the basic concepts of logic that many a new player might not see straight away. Many new players rely on these sickies because they don't have the patient players to guide them in situation. |

Thank you for this thread. It's just a shame the majority of people I come across don't follow a single one of these. I'm still a relatively new player and I get lost easy in dungeons. I try my best to follow other party members but if they take a sudden turn, dive, i have to briefly pause for something (quest looting for example) next thing i know they've gone off ahead and i can't find them. I usually don't know my way either and eventually get faceraped by a mob or two. Unfortunately asking for them to wait up or whatever does nothing. They don't care. They just wanna get through the dung as quickly as possible.
I actually really enjoy dungeons so rushing like a madman to get all the bosses cleared asap is very damaging to my gaming experience. It's ok to say to not be rude to others but when they are constantly rushing ahead and asking them politely over and over not to makes no difference it gets more than a little annoying. |

I'm not playing anymore, but here is my 50 cents from my own experience with LFG:
1 - Just sign up as dps and get carried through the instance, if you wipe - blame healer or tank. 2 - Roll on whatever you want - you'll never see anyone in the party ever again anyway. 3 - Noone cares if you are being rude, worst that can happen - you'll get kicked and join a new one, just don't get banned for some racist joke. Remember - calling people the way they are normally called in your country every day may be insulting in other countries. Also guild officer rank 'Jew' with the only person with it in fact being from Israel and who actually likes it will get your GM banned. Doesn't matter that there is even a page with that name on Wikipedia. 4 - Even if you tell people you are afk in LFG, you'll most likely get kicked anyway, so why bother.. besides you'll never see any of them ever again. 5 - Ye, just put /follow on a healer and watch some series, don't forget to loot. 6 - If healer is going OOM in between pulls - he sucks and wasting your time, if he starts complaining - try to get him kicked. 7 - Worst thing that might happen is you get kicked, just requeue 8 - If tank can't get the aggro off you with all the extra threat they got since vanilla, he sucks and wasting your time, if he starts complaining - try to get him kicked. With a good tank you will never pull a mob off him even if you have better gear. Feint and vanish was my most important skills in vanilla, in Cata you only use them for the damage reduction in raids. 9 - Running in circles, kiting mobs is perfectly fine with 90% of the tanks you will meet in LFG - running to them will likely get you killed. 10 - Standing in the healing circles and not doing any dps is bad - it is up to healer to put them right. Stand in them if you can, but you job is to dps, not running across the room to help some silly healer with his mana management issues - it won't be a problem with good healer. 11 - Only click lightwell if it is close, don't run across the room to get it - it is healers problem he picked stupid build with it. 12 - Don't stand in AoE! - this one is actually true, still depends on aoe. Don't bother asking too much, not many people will care to explain you tactics for 5 mins, rather kick you - they will never see you ever again. Just pull once and figure it out on the fly - none of the dungeons in Cata is rocket science. Best advice - find a guild and run LFG with them, they'll explain you the stuff. |

Please do not listen to those tips guys, those kind of actions are what make randoms a very harsh and unfriendly place.
Those "tips" in fact are mostly the top things I hate the most about randoms. Annoying elitism and people thinking they're better than everybody else and not having patience for beginners. If you're gonna queue for random with that kind of attitude do us all a favour and don't bother. |

You can keep deceiving yourself, but this kind of behavior is encouraged by current LFG mechanics. People wouldn't dare 6 years ago, since no one would ever grouped with them ever again after that back in the days, but blizzard "fixed" that. Now everyone can be an [very bad word should go there, 21+] without any consequences.
Actually they did many other great things since then, let's see - archaeology, transmogrification and even kung-fu pandas and pokemon battles are coming. Can't wait for my little pony mounts. |

You can listen to any advice you want, of course. The question is, is it good for what you want to do? People in LFG are generally a quiet, unfriendly bunch, so you'll have to learn how to deal with them. Our friend above has obviously had enough of it, and has quit WoW as a consequence. She doesn't like it anymore, and frankly, who could blame her? There really is no reason to behave nicely if you don't want to, and that's why there will always be rude behavior. If you want to play the game nonetheless, some less cynical advice might be better for you.
1. Dungeons are freaking easy on normal difficulty (which turns doing them into a zerg rush for gear...). The only way you can mess up is if you don't really know anything about your class or role. Before you do dungeons, you should learn something about your class, how to play it well and how to improve your performance. Even Wowpedia is a good place to start. You should do the same about your role. 2. Practice. A lot. If you're lucky, find a friendly, social guild. If not, ignore offensive comments. Asking for advice might turn out bad in LFG, but there are places where someone will answer. Like here, for example. If you get kicked out, practice on random mobs. Just don't take any insults personally. You don't even know those people, and won't likely see them again, so why bother! If anything they say is useful, however, remember that. 3. Look up something about the dungeon you want to do. there is usually good information about the layout, mobs, bossed and their abilities. And even then you won't need any tactics other than doing your role. Being prepare for any possible surprises is good, however. 4. People generally do dungeons for gear, not fun. They're rushing to clear them again and again, and don't want to wait. They're a selfish bunch, and you can't do anything about that other than find a good guild. I once 2 manned a dungeon with a guild mate and it was great, much more challenging and interesting :) Moments like that you should remember, if they ever happen. 5. Sometimes, when you don't feel like doing dungeons anymore, find something else to do. If all else fails, walk in Duskwood wearing lvl 1 gear and laugh at people (out of game, ofc) calling you a freak. Or just lvl your professions, grind reputations or just enjoy the scenery. 6. If that fails, take a break from WoW. After a pause, you'll probably feel happier playing again. No game is perfect. Just learn to enjoy what you have. |

Cheers for the guide. :) I've been playing for just under a month so I have no clue what I'm doing most of the time.
Haven't really looked at partying up just yet. Enjoying the solo questing for now but when it comes to it I have more understanding of what to do. |
