Hey everyone, just been wondering which stat is most prefered over others. From what i've noticed, alot are stacking mastery. Thats what im attempting to do now aswell, though im wondering wether i should go for dodge and parry rather than mastery?
If you can answer this for me, please do. Any help is wanted.
I go all mastery. Mastery don't have diminishing returns and I feel it's easier for my healers predicting dmg than with the spikey dmg that comes with dogde and parry. Sure it's nice but I wouldn't aim for parry/dogde. Just let it build as gear get's better.
I'm working to Mastery > Dodge/Parry > Stamina > Hit > Expertise which I believe is right
The reasoning behing Mastery > Dodge/Parry is that although you prevent more raw incoming damage by taking Dodge/Parry you create a tank that either takes 0 damage from a dodge or lots from an unblocked hit. A Mastery-stacked tank takes more damage overall but most of it goes through shield blocks so it's a much more predictable and easier to heal.
I was told that you want Dodge around 12% and Parry around 13%, then pour it all into Mastery.
Stamina is always your highest priority while gemming and enchanting. In difference from Wrath, you shouldn't prioritize Stamina over everything else (like skipping socket bonuses for pure Stamina) but if you are gemming anything but blue, green and purple gems then you're doing it wrong.
Mastery (Block) should be your second priority. It's good because it works the same way as Stamina - it's a direct increase to your effective health. It makes your damage mitigation less random, but in difference from Stamina it doesn't cover all damage sources. If there's a yellow socket and a bonus worth going for, socket Stamina + Mastery. If there's no stamina enchant available for a slot, enchant Mastery. Reforge all Hit, Expertise, Dodge and Parry (listed by priority) into Mastery on equipment without Mastery.
Parry and Dodge should be kept on an equal rate due to diminishing returns. Some classes have additional gains from Parry or Dodge (such as the Warrior's Hold the Line talent), in that case keep Parry a few percent higher than Dodge but still close.
Prioritize Expertise over Hit when going for threat generation. The boss has a much larger chance to dodge and parry your attack than you have to miss on your attacks.
Prioritize Hit over Expertise if you are on interruption duty and get soft capped.
Generally your personal choices should always come down to whether you want additional mitigation from Parry and Dodge or additional threat generation from Expertise and Hit. In general, staying alive is more important than generating threat (DPS can always drop threat / hold back while you can't ask the boss to deal less damage) and you should really only be going for threat generation if you're in a raid where it's necessary.
