I really recommend the Dragonlance Chronicles and it's companion books, they are by far some of the best fantasy novels I've ever read

Or if you are into a more mature/adult fantasy novels, the I recommend the Night Angel Triology.

not exactly 5 individual books, but i read a lot :)

Check out Joe Abercrombie's first law series. I found this highly refreshing, after being through quite a lot of other fantasy. A bit on the gory side at times, but well worth it.

"A Song of Ice and Fire" series by George R R Martin. (A Game of Thrones etc)

1. Magican by Raymond Feist. I dont like the newer books, they lack something. Its all over so fast. The older books like Magican, but also Sethanon and Serpentwar saga were not just finished in a blink of an eye but contained more story, more action, more things happening.

2. Harry Potter part VII. Big fan of these series and how the story ended.
3. The colour of Magic by Terry Pratchet.
4. Harry Potter part VI.
5. The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien!

Robin Hobb's 'Farseer', 'Liveship Traders', 'Tawny Man' and newest trilogy take the number one spot by far. They are all in the same world and interrelate, but slight differences in style mean that they change positions based on my mood. Engaging writing coupled with amazing plotlines and character make her my favourite author by a long shot.

Katherine Kerr's 'Deverry Saga' is my second favourite, spanning 15 books and having a very intricate 'celtic knot' plot line, it makes for an excellent series to read over a month or so.

The aforementioned books by Trudi Canavan are easily in the third slot; might I also mention her stand alone prequel to the 'Black Magician', 'The Magician's Apprentice' and her new trilogy, sequel to the 'Black Magician', 'The Traitor Spy'.

Garth Nix' 'Across the Wall' trilogy won my heart years ago, and never fails to be an interesting and engaging read, no matter how many times I read it. That gives it an easy fourth.

Unfortunately, I can't decide on a fifth. I've been a little lax in my reading lately and could only decide places for my all time favourites.

In no particular order (A. skipping tolkien's middle earth, pratchett's discworld, rowling's potter, lewis' narnia, asimov's foundation, etc., only because already mentioned above - or at least they should be; B. any series can be read at random they do make more sense if read in chronological order):

preacher comics....*cough* sorry, I meant "graphic novel" series (ennis, dillon)
gunslinger/dark tower series (king)
otherworld series (williams)

I cant believe no one has said Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series so far, anyways here my top 5:

1.The Malazan Book of the Fallen series - Stephen Erikson (highly, highly recommend)
2. Neverwhere -Neil Gaiman (Also Good Oments - Gaimon and Pratchett)

4. Robin Hobb in general, the first few trilogies in particular
5. All Pratchett, Tolkien, Raymond E. Feist, Trudi Canavan...

Only books I've ever read were the Harry potter ones, absolutely amazing they were. After I read the Deathly hallows, i tried a few other books and couldn't get into them. Give up on reading forever </3

I can't say. I read every one of the novels of Warcraft and I'm loving them all. I've also read the Harry Potter series, which were also very, very good. However I also read several of the Star Wars novels -- Betrayal, Bloodline and Tempest and Exile -- I cannot say they were all that good. But that's just me. But anyway, if you wish to have in my opinion an excellent group of novels, and learn a bit more about the rich universe we play in, I suggest the archive known as Chronicles of War. It basically has, if I recall correctly, Rise of the Horde, the Last Guardian, Tides of Darkness and Beyond the Dark Portal in it. Basically all the wars. Or, if you are a fan of a novel with a touch of emotion in it, and a truly dramatic story, I highly recommend Arthas: Rise of the Lich King by Christie Golden, one of my favorites. I heartily recommend any novel by Golden.

2. Starship Troopers(Much different than the movie btw)
3. The entire series of The Edge Chronicles(Seriously, give them a read. The universe is mindboggling).
4. Shades of Gray. Not what you'd call archetypical sci-fi, but it's definitely in that vein. Has a lining of 1984 by George Orwell.
5. The books in the Cluster series by Piers Anthony, especially Viscous Circle.

Can I say 6 Books that make 2 Trilogies? Pretty please?

Personally I'd love to recommend anyone that loves fantasy to read Pathrick Rothfuss' trilogy, "The Kingslayer Chronicle". There's two books out right now, The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear. Best books I've read in a long time!

The lord of the Rings trilogy is the mother of all fantasy stories.
You guys should definitely read it.

Most of my favourites are already mentioned, but I want to add two :)

The Dark Elf Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore, which is my favourite book ever, telling the story of the young dark elf Drizzt, facing the challenges of being a sole voice of reason in a world full of evil.

The second book is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Ender's Game is one of the most astonishing, intelligent, dramatic and challenging books I have ever read, dealing with stuff like alien invasions, the definition of life, child labour, the right to have a childhood, the power of the internet, and more :)
