Judge Dredd (2000AD)

Anyone else a fan? Been reading that for quite a long time and can't wait for the reboot movie to come out next year. (Has to be better than Stallone's attempt at it. Like this time no removing the helmet...) x.x

Not sure where they are heading with it though. Have made some references to his age now as in he looks to be around 70'ish and all. Though it will by 2018 been running for more than 40 years in chronological order so the end has to come about at somepoint or the... "We use cloning technology and bring a younger version back."
Be interesting to see nonetheless. |

There is a reboot movie?
I really liked Judge Dredd comics up until the Stallone movie when (I think?) the comic changed... I remember there being a new comic, starting from issue #1 around the time of the movie, that is when I lost interest. But for growing up back then, aged 12-16, the original Judge Dredd comic was an awesome universe to lose yourself in! I particularly liked the Judge Death and the Batman crossover expertly illustrated by Simon Bisley: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman/Judge_Dredd:_Judgment_on_Gotham |

Yeah, there is another movie being made without Stallone and this time they're keeping as close to the comics as possible. So...
1. No taking off helmet (Not like Stallone who HAD to take off the helmet) 2. More violent (Since it's keeping more in line to cannon lore etc) As for that comic, I think it was a one off that didn't go right. The strip in 2000AD remained the same. No doubt Rebellion (think it's them who publish the stuff now, unsure if they actually own 2000AD though) thought that the film would be a success and as such the new comic would as well. Didn't quite work out that way. I have been buying the year books (All JD strips from issue 2 onwards). Well, I say all, there had been a few strips in the past where they had to get special permission such as when there was a McDonald, Burger King and KFC war. And when Startrek came into orbit around Earth. Still has a lot of readers really. Hmm, shame there can't be another deal where say Justice Department finds Azeroth while on deep space and well, you have Judge Dredd dealing out the law... Okay, not for canon lore stuff, a one off story but that plot sounds way too silly. Although thinking on it more, hmm... That could be a interesting plot to say the least. There was a Judge Dredd vs Aliens as well. That was good. Mind you, I like the comic book of Robocop vs Terminator. Actually had a workable interesting plotline to merge the two so well... Surprised there hasn't been a movie made as that would rock as well. |

Thanks, that's what I thought! Glad the original 'strip lived on!
There's an interesting thought.. Robocop movie reboot!? |
There is a reboot movie? That was a comic called Judge Dredd - Lawman of the Future and it was aimed at younger readers as a way of introducing them to Dredd. It worked too because that was my introduction :) |

Yeah Judge dredd is such a legend, I used to read all those when I was 12 and am a casual reader now. Scared the hell out of me when I was younger.

Ugh, no... I don't want any US Network to make Judge Dredd into a TV series at all. Well, I know why I said that but thinking on it it wasn't the US that made Robocop mini-series but Canada I think. Still undecided if it was good or bad. Well, it was better'ish than Robocop 3... Robocop didn't suit being made into a cartoon either. So the same would be said for Judge Dredd as well. |

But, but,... won't be the same without Stallone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycmH1tMp_0s&feature=related |

*laughs*
I think it will be better than Stallone, no doubt on that one. Then again I'm wondering when he's going to retire from action movie actor status, getting too old now to play some roles he has recently. Seeing him, Bruce Willis and Harrison Ford in Headcases once being too old but still saving the world was funny. Wish there was a new series of that on ITV, but suppose in the end it would never compete or compare with Spitting Image... |

*laughs* Tbh, i'm going to miss the cheezy "over the top" movies from the 80-90's . Good stuff to fill up a friday night ^^ Ah well, times change. Lets hope the new Dredd is going to be nice |

Ah yes, the cheesy 80's movies. :) Still remember seeing those actors in rubber turtle suits. XD
But I think Jurassic Park changed all of that. Was just big blockbusters from there on in after that movie shocked a lot of people. (2 and 3 were a bit poor though) But still like the good old classics that would fit well into stories for 2000AD though such as Running Man, Total Recall, Robocop, etc. Very unique ideas with good storyplots which seem to be lacking these days with just putting as much eye-candy as you can and oh yeah, must have it in 3D for that next new awesome'ness which usually fails as it's not a good movie due to poor story. I know there has to be some sort of CGI in the new JD movie but hope they keep things balanced and there's a good plot that makes a movie good. |

Seems with the new Judge Dredd movie coming out soon in September in the UK. (really hoping it's better than the first attempt with "Must show his face" Stallone.
I see they're trying to bring Judge Dredd into the US market, even IDW is getting to do it but a Black Sci-Fi comedy mixed with Law & Order? Does Judge Dredd really need tweaking to fit in with Americans? Think I'll continue to read the original on 2000AD myself. |

Oh Grud on a greenie.
The only reason why Stallone had Dread wearing a codpiece, is because he was trying to make up for the lack of something (in real life!). ;) |

Bought an Issue of 2000AD back in October 2011, quite liked it, but couldn't be bothered to order it. Now with the Judge Dredd film coming out, I think I'm taking more of an interest... have 2000AD on constant order, and I've even ordered the Judge Dredd Megazine...
Wouldn't worry about JD showing his face though. Karl Urban who plays JD in the new film stated somewhere that he won't be taking of the helmet, as that's just not Dredd. |
