Wow song lyrics

77 Night Elf Druid

Does anyone know/have information of what they are singing in the songs of wow?
Both the language they are singing and translation please!

What I want to know most is Stormwind's theme song's language and translation.

Cheers!

Well, for some of the songs you can find some loosely translated lyrics and such.
The songs tend to be written in either some pseudo-Latin language (i.e it looks like Latin, but it's a little self-made here and there) or in one of Blizzard's own languages for the in-game races (Thalassian, the Blood Elves language, for the Lament of the Highborne song for example).

Anyway, here's a few (if you search around a bit on the web you can probably find some more attempted translations for various songs :P):

A Call to Arms:
http://www.wowpedia.org/A_Call_to_Arms

O Thanagor (part of Invincible, Arthas, My Son, and other Lich King pieces):
http://www.wowpedia.org/O_Thanagor

Lament of the Highborne:
http://www.wowpedia.org/Lament_of_the_Highborne#Lyrics

The Lament of the Highborne got a Night Elf version with Cataclysm, called Nightsong, which basically tells the story of the Night Elves the same way as Lament of the Highborne tells the story of the Blood Elves (it's on the Cataclysm soundtrack, and Russell Brower talks a bit about it on the Behind the Scenes DVD if you own that :P):

Here's the sort-of agreed upon lyrics for Nightsong (in Darnassian):

O drasi
Si Nashanoi
Quel'dorei
Nordrassill
Eoplei matodei
Anu ratore
A-a-a-a Essi-i-i
Selunorei
Si, oshanorei
Si, shanodo
A-a-a-a A-a-a-a-a
A-a-a-a Essi-i-i

I won't dare to post a translation to this as it's still debated a bit here and there. Some of it you can guess yourself. Like Quel'dorei means Highborne, and Nordrassil is the world tree, and so on.

Anyway, there are of course a lot more songs and lyrics, but ultimately, you have to toy a bit with Blizzard's languages yourself, and make some qualified guessing, in order to get a translation (since Blizzard themselves seem quite reluctant with releasing their lyrics :P).

Anyway, here's the "old" encyclopedia to Darnassian:
http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/encyclopedia/361.xml

And then for the Stormwind theme I'm a bit clueless, lol :/
It sounds Latin, but I'm no huge expert there so it can just as well be random syllables that just come across as being some fancy language, but which really is pure gibberish. A good non-Warcraft example of that is the soundtrack for Gladiator, the track called "Now We Are Free". It sounds really beautiful, but it's pure gibberish :P

Anyway, what I actually actually wanted to say, was that Blizzard teamed up with Alfred Music Publishing not long ago, in order to publish the sheet music for a lot of the World of Warcraft music. Initially it was just the nodes, but lately they've started to include the vocal lyrics to some of the sheet music as well, which is the (non-translated) official lyrics :P

You can find it all here:
http://alfred.com/Search/SearchResults.aspx?q=world+of+warcraft&type=All

And that is probably the page you have to keep an eye on, because if Blizzard were to release the lyrics for the Stormwind music, then it will probably be released there.

Edit: Spelling.

It sounds like Russian.
They sing "Tsaru Svoboda".
What means "Freedom for the King".

Maybe a song about Varian being imprisoned by orcs and fighting in arena(Before he returned and killed Onyxia).
Just my 2 cents.

Thank you Jito & Serged, fantastic that you knew this, hope more people will engage in this thread.
The music displays the true honor and mystical about war & countries and their pride.

The wow itself is so big and fantastic that it could become a religion itself within a thousand years, I know what I will tell for kinda stories to my children before they go to bed! ;)

Will look a bit into the links you gave me, thanks a lot Jito!

Oh also, I will just include this podcast from Azeroth.fr. It's a french podcast so if your french isn't good, then most of it is probably not worth listening to for you :P

But at 01:40:00 there's an interview with Russell Brower, WoW music composer and the guy in charge of all the sound and music (and it's in English!), which is quite good.
At the end (around 01:57:30) they actually talk a bit about the vocal lyrics in particular and what they mean and such.

(it's quite old, but the interview is still worth listening to I think :P).

Interesting, tho my french isn't that good, Im looking forward to 01:40:00 & 01:57:30.

Darnassian is truly my favorite language so I hope they brought up some night elf songs.

All damn wow music giving me goose bumps..

Mmm, no :P
It's only very brief in the sence of the vocals (just included it since I remembered the little part :D). Basically just saying that they're sort of pseudo-Latin lyrics for the most part and such. Most of the interview is just general WoW music talk, but still very good :P

Anyway, Blizzard themselves did a good interview with Russell Brower on Blizzcast some time ago. So just for "general WoW music discussion with the man himself" this is definitly worth listening to (if you haven't already):
http://eu.blizzard.com/en-gb/community/blizzcast/archive/episode4.html

And finally, I'll just include Jason Hayes' website. He was the main composer for WoW during Vanilla, so he's responsible for much of the original music (and thus his site's forums are filled with WoW music threads, and some guessed lyrics and such :P):
