Not so. There is a toooooooon of foreshadowing in early books if you're into that kind of thing. Events that seemed insignificant at first reading become "wow, how did I miss that" moments later on. For example, ---spoilers below--- the vanishing cabinet that Draco used to bring the death eaters into Hogwarts in Half-Blood Prince is first mentioned in passing in Chamber of Secrets, in Borgin and Burke's. Another (much more obvious) example is the locket horcrux, which was first introduced in Order of the Phoenix during the House of Black clean-out. |

They're /okay/ not really my type of thing, the books are acceptable but the movies have gone from nice childrens movies to a crappy twilight copy in the sense the latest movies just seem to be about teen drama.
Do not want. |

The books managed to draw me in, unlike the films (nothing unexpected) so yes, wonderful books, enjoyed reading them however not entirely my kind of book

I've grown up with them, i remember getting the first 4 just after the goblet of fire was released? back into 2000, so I would have been like 9 at the time

I 've read them all, but I couldn't read them now that I am older simply because the whole school setting is behind me.

You must be kidding. Next thing you tell us you've never watched a James Bond movie because you aren't a secret agent. |

I Love Harry potter... got the whole collection.
Started reading them so long ago and when they released the last book I couldn't believe that I would never ned to wait for "the new book to come out". I'm reading right now Vampire Diaries and the Diaries too... and after that I will re-read HArry Potter... remembering my school times when I was awake till 5am to get up at 7 xD Ps Im actually a "book eater" I love to read |

Anyone remember what Stuart Lee had to say on the matter?

I don't know if I ever told you, but... The whole setting of the HP universe is too childish for me, since the main character isn't 40 years old. Also, whenever someone recommends the Godfather to me, I just go "nah, that Michael guy is just some inexperienced kid. And cops vs robbers is a kiddy game". And of course, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly is just childish to me, since westerns are childish! |

Harry Potter books were always great for me, giving a great way to curl up with a book and open up to an amazing would of magic and a world bigger than yourself. The writing is never to hard or easy to read, and there's the movies too.

I first watched the movies and thought it mostly as a mediocre story.
But then I decided to purchase the books and holy hell are they amazing! :) Although I really don't like the newest books THAT much.. Hell, I guess it's only 'cause of the fact that I hate to follow the story knowing that this beautiful tale will soon come to an end. |

I feel so lucky to have grown up with these books, as do so many others. JK Rowling inspired a whole generation of young readers/writers. When I have children of my own, they will grow up with these timeless stories too.
