Addon tycoon breaking addon rules?

Hey i found addon Tycoon, and they ask money for addon! Isn't that against rules now?
Also looks shady to me. http://www.warcraftguidecenter.com/Tycoon-Gold-Addon.html Is anyone actually using this? |

There are alot of guides breaking the rules. http://www.tukui.org/blog/33 , They wanted to remove tukui. But zygors guide is still out here.

From what I can tell, you're paying for the guides and the addon's updater. The addon itself comes as a "free bonus" for buying these things. So, while you ARE paying for the addon, you technically aren't - you're paying for things that happen to include the addon. Zygor does the same thing and gets away with it for some reason.
Besides, this addon does nothing more than what addons like Auctioneer/Auctionator and GatherMate offer. I suggest you save your money and look into these addons instead. |

There is also a thread on the US forums discussing this addon, it is about someone whose secruity was compromised but also discusses the legality of the addon.
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2743806639?page=2#25 There seems to be a thin line between what is and is not allowed under the ToS. There is already a levelling guide that gets around this loophole by making the addon free but charging you a fee for 'support'. I know that a number of people in that blogger's community are unhappy with the item (he disabled comments for it), he already sells a gold guide. It is unclear as to if he is behind the addon or not, based on his response in the forum. To be honest I think there are a number of free addons that you can use that probably duplicate much of what the addon does. It is difficult to say as the advertisement is quite vague as to what it actually does do, never a good sign. Personally I would like Blizzard to close this loophole, but there may be legal reasons why they can't. |

Blizzard can't stop people from charging money for addons since they do not own the addons, what they can do is in some way ban the addon but that would be kinda tricky since they don't necessarily want to ban the function they can't make it stop working. So the only thing they can do really is ban the name in the sense that WoW won't load an addon name that, but that's kinda easy to go by by just changing the name. And I really don't think they want to ban people who uses the addons either (which also is really easy to make it impossible to notice by just changing the addon name).
This is why I think their addon policy is kinda stupid 'cause they can't really reinforce it in a good way people can just do !@#$ like that anyway. |
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! |

...then ppl would ahve been forced to actually PLAY the game .. and not just get help to "easyclick this button, to automate most things for you, yar lazy one" ....
I, for myself do not use addons .. you can actually SEE on the screen what is going on .. if a mob/boss casts a spell or something .. or .. if someone is in need of healing, or ... taking aggro .. wow .. all this info .. without an addon .. hmm... Poor ppl ... what is Blizz would kill the addon segment... |

...then ppl would ahve been forced to actually PLAY the game .. and not just get help to "easyclick this button, to automate most things for you, yar lazy one" .... Good thing I'm not alone :P I only use Power Auras to keep easier track of my buffs <_< However I'm raiding (6/8 normal) without boss mods, unitframes, castbars, action bars, CD bars (PA isn't a CD bar ;P) or any other fancy things :] |

Simply put.
1. Addons can in some cases contain "Spyware" these are used to obtain information like "login name/ Password" and then are used to scam, hack or anyother nasty deals. 2. Some addons changes the game to much "its not longer wow" like a UI is breaking the policy rules. why? - Its rewamp the Programming code of the bars etc and make it look different This can and sometimes "mostly" cause Lag. error. unsupported crashes etc. 3. Its YOUR responsibility to make sure your account is safe, Its YOUR account that will / can be banned if you abuse any rule or policy blizzard do not accept. Be sure before install an addon to use anti-virus and (Ad-aware) to make sure there is no SPYWARE in the addons either. Enjoy... wow is for the simple but good players! |

Tycoon does indeed break the rules. Google a bit and you find several wow gold blogs exploring the subject. And while your at it, you can find relevat profession and goldmaking advice there as well that works much better then any automated goldmaking thingie. You need to know the market to make serious gold. Addons help but in the end, you are the one that needs to think yourself.

Simply put. 1) - Addons CANNOT contain spyware as they are not program code. 2) - Occassionally, usually after a patch, addons can cause a crash - you simply disable them until the author has created an update. 3) - As with reply to 1) - addons CANNOT contain spyware as they are not programs - they are lines of only text. Blizzard has banned addons that violate their rules by amending program code but the most generally used ones do not do this - Blizzard would ban them. And yes I do use quite a few, but being a very mature player with some slight manual disability due to a removed brain tumour, I would be totally lost without them. Perhaps you would ban the use of large fonts for people with slight visual disabilities. Me, I would ban everyone with an IQ less than 130 playing, that would produce a far more enjoyable environment in game :) |

Its so blatantly obvious that they are just trying to circumvent the rules but still essentially break them. Sure you might not pay for the actual addon, but if there is no way of obtaining it without paying money then it's not really as blizz intended it to be, and should be banned.
Not the people that use it, just the addon itself. |
This was the case on release. Tycoon is "Technically" in the clear. But it's like people on ebay selling microsoft points cheap. They are technically selling you a paperclip or something, and give you the points "free" as a bonus. Really it's against the legal rules, but they've kind of gotten around it. It probably wouldn't stand in court really. Personally I think there are better ways than buying a gold making guide to get gold. |

Why do you double necro this thread?
