there is actually a flaw in this law, Nothing can travel faster then light.

That's not strictly true, the universe is expanding faster than light, or we would expect the universe to be roughly 27 billion light years across, current estimations say much more than that.
read again, that's exactly my point.

Although the hypothetical tachyon does move faster than the speed of light (And can't slow down to the speed of light): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tachyon

Indeed, but that does not mean anything. Tachyon is thought to be a meaningless particle that is just sorta "there"... Meaningless because it cannot carry any information

Oh really? who says Relativity is true? Petr Horvara has removed Lorentz symetry from the equations and come up with some interesting results.
Even assuming Lorentz symetry is true, if we travel faster than light we are not going back in time, rather we are going back to see the same light again. If you traveled around the earth faster than light you would not go back in time. You might however APPEAR to catch up with yourself, however you would not impact as it is just light.

Lylise got there before me, GJ :P

Also: why do people talk so much about time travel while forgetting that we're doing it already, we're just moving in one particular direction?

[PS: If you're interested in why we travel in one direction, try looking into Thermodynamics and entropy. There are more esoteric theories out there, but the entropic arrow of time is by far the most believable]

Actually time is an illusion. There exists in the universe (possibly multiverse) every possible permatation of matter under the physical laws. One of these features you, as you are right now, with an arrangement of matter in your brain that makes you think you have memories following a linear path through time but it is in fact a static snap-shot.

Interesting.

You cannot travel "at" the speed of light but it might be possible to circumvent it in a few ways

1) Matter from a Black Hole - some theories say it may "leak" and given the event horizon should in classic theory make that impossible, FTL travel is the proposed solution. Steven Hawkins said this may be due in part to the uncertainty principle

2) The so called "Rapid Expansion" of the very early Universe shortly after the Big Bang. Again this presents issues in classic theory

3) Planic Energy - at unbelievable amounts of energy space-time itself breaks down

4) Space Warping and Wormholes etc - strictly speaking I would have thought such things if they exist may enable FTL travel between two points - although again if they exist and it does you could debate the point you may not be part of classic space-time while on such a journey which leads me to....

5) Hyperspace - a so called "place, field, or location" outside normal space-time where separate rules may apply

Of course for all practical purposes and at present all of these so called routes may be unusable as with the possible exception of (1) above you cannot transmit information faster than light in normal space-time

However other concepts I have read debate the possibility of life elsewhere in this universe, again we cannot yet know for certain if it does exist and even more relevant, if intelligent self conscious tool using beings have evolved on other planets around distant stars.

But if if they are there some scientists have devised a tool to measure a civilization based on both total energy output and data processing abilities. In energy terms they are called Stage 1, 2, 3, and 4 - data processing would be from A to Z at each stage

Stage 1 would be equal to a civilization that can generate energy equal to the total power of the sun falling on its planet, stage 2 equals the total power of a solar system etc,

We fall at about 0.7 in energy terms at present and around G in data terms

But who knows what might be possible to a stage 2 civilization - energy output I think may be the key.

Just some idle speculation from a non scientist - a tad different from the usual WoW postings -:)
