Right, I've been going through RP realms on the forums, and thus far, this has been quite appealing, particularly that of the Grey Towers'. With that said, could you all sort of fill me in on the realm's working and such, as best as you can.
I have two toons I'm considering bringing here, and a lot of time to spend on them should I move them.

ER is a high quality realm if you ask me. And that is a -lot- coming from me in particular, ask anyone who's ever met me. Some complain about a closed off community while others say there is too little RP - Both are true in their own right I suppose. Roleplay is mostly concentrated in Stormwind, though there are also guilds like the Stormwind Infantry (currently in Dustwallow Marsh I believe) and the Blackwald Partisans in Gilneas.

I suppose you can say we have a closed off community as well - ER knows many older roleplayers that have been around for a long time and have, rightly so, made a name for themselves and are held in higher esteem than other roleplayers. I, by no means, am a fan of this and this is in no small part due to how hard it is to climb the steps in this community.

Nevertheless, that all said, it is still fairly easy to gain entry or even to get random RP. A decent roleplayer will have no trouble applying for a guild, and a well-played character will almost always find some form of roleplay. The Church as well as the Slaughtered Lamb in Stormwind, among other places, create great places for a new character to get a little involved.

I think, and this is rather cliché, but your best bet is to simply make a character first and try it for a while - I'd be happy to lend you a shirt and some pants if you don't feel like leveling much, but that might help you form a first impression before heading all the way over here.

Oh and yeah, get some other people's opinions too, because I'm rather vague and most people don't like me so a second opinion is always good.

I don't know what hole you've stuck your head in, Ulka, but while we don't have all too many guilds dedicated to either of those two aspects on a serious basis, there are guilds and groups that satisfies those needs perfectly too. I can mention Nylaathria and Unity Path on Alliance, Elysium and Aeon on Horde, and I'm quite sure there are more. All of these are well-established and successful progression raid-guilds.

For dungeons throughout the various levels, you can join any guild, really. There's more PvE/social-focused guilds on this server then there are RP-focused ones.

For PvP there's fewer options, but there are a few guilds out there who has a focus on battlegrounds and arena, and I know about two groups for rated battlegrounds.

Other than that, I agree with Shevington. There's quality RP to be found here, of course, depending on both your skill, your standard, your preferences and your patience. I would suggest reading the thread Ulka linked. It shows opinions from the whole spectre, as with anything else lots of people engage in, but perhaps it'll give you some understanding of our server. Eliteism isn't rare, but there are, as I've seen, less of that on Horde. Horde-side is also more lenient in their methods, more open-minded about styles and very welcoming - if that side should be interesting for you as well, that is.

If you are a full-time RPer,that's the realm for you,as long as you accept and follow unwritten regulation which seems to be on this realm (See this thread for more info : http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2151587412).If you enjoy PVE or PVP aspects of the game,stay away from this realms as far as possible,because this realm in those aspects is really horrible.

Once again, quantity does not mean quality.

Will you find realms that have progressed further on than Earthen Ring in raid progression? Sure.

Does this mean that Earthen Ring is a bad server to go to for PvE/Raiding? No.

Will you find realms that have more PvP groups going on? Of course.

Does this mean that you can't find those on Earthen Ring? No.

Plus, dueling outside Stormwind does not and has never counted as 'PvP'. And if that's something you were missing out on on Earthen Ring, I'm sort of obliged to say that I'm glad you play on a different realm now, because those duelists are some of the most immature people I've ever met, with a tendency to try and ruin any roleplaying that happens to come by.

Well if you're after cutting-edge PvE or PvP I'd assume you go for those server types, but if you also like to Roleplay I think it works perfectly fine to combine them on Er, at least I've had no trouble. But I'm just someone that wants to be successful with friends, I couldn't care less how 'behind' we'd be compared to a guild whose sole focus is to beat raid content for example.

I think the only thing that's a bit lacking is rated BGs in terms of pvp, but is there really many servers where this is -not- lacking? :P

If i'm to mention my pet peeve about RP it is that the roleplay is very centred at SW (but there's exceptions of course) and the races/people that's got ties to the human kingdom. So there's not many sentinel guilds, draenei guilds and stuff like that, we who like those tend to get drawn to Sw for rp as well. As for the horde side, it's been too long since I rp'd there, so I am not sure how it is on their end.

So in summary; it's a great place socially and RP-wise, but high quality PvE and PvP is only found within a few specific guilds. ;3

PvE is terrible, we haven't cleared normal mode raids let alone got any end dungeon kills on heroic and Acing and Ulka are not terrible trolls who have no idea what they're talking about.
