horus heresy

just wondering what people thought of this massive and ever growing collections of books? im currently reading the 7th book legion and just wondering if i should read all of the books or just certain ones

It's not necessary to read them all, and they're not strictly chronological. Reading them out of order (for the most part - there are a few exceptions) won't affect your understanding of what's happening overly much. That said, if you like them and have the time/money, do read them all. Some are a bit lame (Hey, Ben Counter, I'm looking at you) but whatever.

I agree with Soraya as long as u have read the 1st 3 books in the series then u can read the rest in what ever order u like :D. Its been a gr8 series i think there has only been 2 that i was not keen on and that was prospro burns and descent of angels (Not because it was a bad book i just felt it didnt have anything to add to the heresy, it could easily have been a stand alone book.) other than them i don't think i could pick out a fav :D.

If only they'd do Audio books of the GW range that isnt just 40 min long stories with to many sound effects...
Would love to get some PROPER audiobooks from them, especially Ravenor & Eisenhorn. |

i have read all so far in the horus heresy and i found out of all the first heretic to be mind blowing i loved it . showed that the emporer himself has his own lies. as the protevtor of mandkind he shroweds it in its own ignorence ......mabye horus is not fully to blame after all. but then again deamons tell you what you want to here to get there way .

Meh, the Emperor deserved what he got in the end. His own damn fault sending his own sons into the far galaxy without even telling them about the greatest threat of all. Oh well. BTT: Do read them all, they're worth it. |
If only they'd do Audio books of the GW range that isnt just 40 min long stories with to many sound effects... Like an unabridged version of Prospero Burns and A Thousand Sons perhaps? With over 20 hours of audio on both? :) The Black Library's got you covered these days.
With the Warhammer books you dont need to read all of them to understand the universe. Its best to just pick a series and go from there. Warhammer wise i'd suggest the 'Gotrek and Felix' books, which are packaged in handy omnibuses that are relatively cheap. 40k either start with 'Horus Rising' and go from there, or if you want a "modern day" 40k series, try 'Gaunts Ghosts', which are also in omnibus form these days. As for the Heresy books i love them, with perhaps the exception of 'Battle for the Abyss'. My feelings towards the series are conflicted though somewhat. On the one hand i cant wait to see how they tackle the rest of the Heresy leading up to the Siege of the Emperors palace and its conclusion. But on the other hand i don't want the series to end. |
