Seriously, this is the best book series I have read in 15 years. I can't remember last time I chose to read a book instead of playing on my PC. Just can't put it down.

It's very good, and I'd probably say it's some of the best fiction I've read for a while.

But whilst it's mostly very compelling, I think there are a few character's p.o.v's who aren't as compelling as others (including a few where I actually feel inclined to have a break when I reach there chapters). And there have been a few occasions where GRRM's editors should have stepped in (I found the 1st third of A Storm of Swords in particular dragged on a bit.) And it does fall into melodrama now and then (even felt like a trashy soap at times, but I have to admit I do kinda like the melodrama, probably part of its charm).

But the good points more than outweigh the few quibbles I have. Just a shame we'll have to wait a while until the next books due. Almost wish I hadn't bothered reading them until the series was complete, would be a more epic read.

I have to agree with you , it's absolutely brilliant. I went berserk on books 1-4 and read them in about 3 weeks and now I'm about halfway into ADWD but I got depressed because I realized it took Martin a few years to write it. I'm taking a break from it now to save more for those cold days when all you want to do is stay inside , drink hot coffee and read.

PS: Any favorite characters?

I discovered asofai this summer and halfway through ACOK (promised myself I'd never abbreviate that again, but oh well). And yeah, it's great.. It's magnificent. It's as close to perfect as you can get in my eyes.

also: fav chars must be Tyrion Lannister and Ned Stark.

While reading it for some reason I keep wanting Brienne and Jaime to get together somewhere near the end of the series. I don't even know why, I just want it to happen.

I think I heard from somewhere that the author is actually a fan of Beauty and the Beast pairings, so here's to me hoping.

I'm reading ADWD at the moment, I had to take a break on one of the Davos PoV chapters because it was dragging terribly, but after about 3 weeks, I'm back into it and loving it again!

Favourite characters: Tyrion and Arya.
Love to hate: Cersei and Jamie.
Hate: The Frey's - Burn the Twins! BURNINATE!!

Totally argee wth you Zahri, I think I want them to get get together because Jamie has come so close to redeeming himself a few times but always ruins it with his selfish Lannisterism's (I just made that word up). Getting together with Brienne would do him the world of good, she was a great influence on him before and it would show that he's not always blinded by gold plated mothers of dogs.

I absolutely hate Cersei, but I love to hate her like you do. I think all the Lannisters are interesting in their own way, but Jaime needs to get away from her! It has already shown that he is losing his shallowness for Brienne, especially with his focus on her eyes; which I think could be symbolic for him seeing she has a beautiful soul, if the whole "the eyes are the mirror of the soul" saying is applied here.

I took a break at the beginning of AFFC for some reason but I really want to finish it. I love this series and it really keeps me wanting to know more about what is happening. I've already went ahead and bought ADWD, and I hope that the next book in the series will be out soon, even though I know they take a few years to write sometimes. /sigh

I had a bit of trouble with AFFC at first but that was mostly down to the fact that I felt I was missing my favourite people, alot of new PoV's were introduced with that one. Once I got past that though I really enjoyed it and ADWD is back to more familliar faces :)

I'm a bit envious actually because I'm around 3/4 of the way through it at the moment and would love to be back where you are, without the end looming so close hehe.

Hopefully GRRM will churn the next one out a bit quicker!

Love the idea of the eyes btw, maybe there really is hope for Jamie yet :)

The more I read A Clash of Kings, the more I'm sick of the boring, pointless, emo kid that is Bran Stark. Catelyn and Sansa are themselves boring, but their chapters are interesting because interesting and important stuff happens in them.

Bran, on the other hand, features in a bunch of filler chapters where nothing of any real importance to the story happens. Seriously, you could shift-delete his chapters from the book and nothing would be missing. It's gotten to the point where I groan every time I see his name on the first page of a chapter. >_<

I guess losing your legs can get you pretty down , specially if all you did every day was climb towers and stuff =P but his chapters get really interesting , specially in ADWD.

It isn't that Bran chapters are badly written or boring of themselves. It's just that his chapters in Clash of Kings and even Game of Thrones (past the first couple chapters with him) aren't relevant to the larger story at all. They feel like filler sideplots shoehorned in there to make the book thicker, or something. :P

I sure hope he gets more interesting in time...

He does his entire arc is in essence a buildup, cant say it payed off in a Dance with Dragons particularly but you can understand he is going to be a major player in the overall story towards the end.

I hate that. I don't think a good char exists that needs more than a couple chapters of character buildup.

Having a buildup that spans multiple books, while being essentially boring mundane stuff compared to the rest of the book, is IMHO just a bunch of filler that damages an otherwise awesome series. :/

This is my favourite book and my favourite tv show (Game of Thrones) and I think that this book and tv show are one of the greatest stories that ever existed... BTW it's the " Song of ice and fire" not fire and ice ;)
