[H][RP event] The High Society (continued)
As you may be aware the founder of this event is gone. But the High Society will live on! Hopefully - with your help.
Aims: Get people interested in Azeroth! Mainly in a scholarly way, promoting investigation and gathering knowledge about the world and the people in it. Method: Present a fortnightly lecture (or two in one session) on something interesting. Priority will be given to Azerothian history, sciences, politics, philosophy - those kind of things. Talks should last about 10 minutes and you should expect questions afterwards. Setting: The Legerdemain Lounge in Dalaran. So if you have a topic you'd like to talk about then please, please post something here or mail Lindoriel, Kitaia or me. If you are unsure if it would work or want a hand preparing or just have questions get in touch. If you have an idea for a similarly themed event or one that nearly ties in with this one then please let us know - we can use this event to promote them if they fit the goals of it. Next event: 7th September |

Guidelines
NB: these are just my thoughts on them - they are not binding, not the consensus. Feel absolutely free to challenge them, suggest additions or ignore them. - Don't dwell on personal back stories unless they are used to explore some aspect of a scientific, cultural or historical linked to Azeroth. "Pirate traditions: A first hand account of the Northrend Pirates and their history" is good "I'm a Pirate. This is a list of naughty things I have done" is not. - Try not to contradict the lore too overtly. Speculation, new theories - all good. Trying to assess the evidence about how the troll tribes really split off (in contradiction to how they tell us they did) is good. Claiming Malfurion is actually a woman and had a baby with Kael'thas (and the baby happens to be you), not so good. - Bear in mind setting. Talking about quantum effects, using modern terms like post-modernism and stuff like that is not good. - Try to think about how other cultures might do things. Try to add Azerothian flavour to everything you do. Embrace wrong ideas that cannot be disproven. It is far, far better to be consistent with the world you are in than correct. Goblins are great but they have not managed to discover electrons or wave-particle duality yet. |

Guessing Larkall won't get another talk now, or...?
I think I might have something in mind for Ursala to talk about at the next open slot, but I'm not 100% sure on the title yet.
Of course Larkall can have another talk in the High Society! Just because someone has already lectured once doesn't mean that they are forbidden from doing so again. |

It wasn't because of the fact he's done it before. It was er... because of... well...
Oh, you mean the subject of his previous lecture? Well, I am sure he could try to present further information on that subject and just have to see if the civilized crowd of the High Society actually acts civilized when coming face to face with a heartless Forsaken's vile experiments!
Please. He thinks of other things than that subject. I meant that the subject of the lecture was so controversial they might not allow him to speak again, especially as the new leaders of the event are---as far as I know---firmly opposed to what he talked about. His next lecture would have more scientific backing yet his use of it would be rather twisted still.
Up to Kelzay and Kitaia to be honest. |
The whole point of it is to have people talking and if that brings controversy it will be interesting to see how people react to it ICly. I would like to see Larkall trying for another spot ICly over the next meet or two, Kit's not the type to let her own opinions get in the way of things where she can help it.
That would be great ^^ Keep us updated about a subject/title. Also would she prefer to go on first or second? |
I don't think he was trying to create controversy as such. He's firmly of the opinion that you should never talk to purposely bring controversy, as he was talking about what he firmly believed the future would be.
I know hw wasn;t trying to but it happened XD I think it would be good to see what else he talks on.
Kitaia - I think Ursala would prefer to go second, as she can be quite a nervous public speaker and she wouldn't want to have to kick the night off, but I don't mind; so it's up to you.
Okies, She'll be up second then. Thanks for stepping up.
With his last talk he had riled a few people into leaving IClyso it's probably better for him to speak second/last when he does. I'd love to see him RPing for the chance to speak again too. I have a feeling he can put forward a very compelling argument as to why he should. |

Just to add to what Kit said - I've got no intention at all of filtering what is said at these events. What my character likes or dislikes is not relevant - She has signed up to facilitate these things and to to continue that Viatrix started. Viatrix was happy with Larkall talking so I can't say no! And wouldn't. Censorship bad. Expect arguments, tantrums and accusations IC if the topic is equally against her beliefs/feelings but don't expect to be banned! Not going to happen. You have the right to talk about anything. Just as the audience have the right to tar and feather you.
Edit: Larkall is a great character, well played and interesting. I am not about to block or impede high quality RP. So bring it on. As far as I am concerned if you want to go first you are welcome to. Mail one of us IC and you are on the roster! |
