Yeah, I should have said this a while ago. Considering I haven't played the game in months, and have thought about it even less. I've just unsubscribed from WoW, and at the moment I have no intention of ever returning.

Yeah, I know, we've all heard it before. Writing farewells is a surefire way to have me resubscribe after a matter of weeks. Changez la disque, monsieur DJ.

Reasons? Oh, just tired of WoW. I don't dislike the game, but I'm done with it. Through WotLK and Cataclysm my interest gradually waned, and eventually other pursuits took precidence over the continuing floridity of Mister Adalan Odesterai. It has, however, been a great ride, and I've had some spectacular company. So rather than whittle on at length about me, here's some messages for everyone on Scarshield, past and present, who kept me coming back for so long. Because honestly, it's been more about you than me.

Opathu: Uncle Opu took me, Daymar and Roburky in when we were naught but babes, indoctrinated us and molded us in his sinister image. Theatre of Cruelty was a fine guild to be introduced to SSL roleplay, and for that he has my undying thanks.

Vypra: Possibly the greatest asset to Horde RP that SSL has never realised it had. Vypra and Vexacus (I think) joined about the same time we did, and while I spent my time swanning around in puffy shirts trying it on with green women, Vypra did the more grown-up thing of becoming a genuine pillar of the community, a solid foundation upon which others could build their RP houses, and an absolutely fantastic lady to boot. She did more for RP than anyone else I encountered, and for that she has my undying thanks. Hopefully, she has yours as well.

Vexacus: Scares me in ways I cannot vocalise online, in case he tracks me down.

Quintilius: You're a fine chap, a weird chap, a scary chap, a loveable chap. Much missed. Hearing you belt out Chocolate Rain over Ventrilo at ridiculous volumes has left a happy but terrible scar deep inside. It got infected and now I may die.

Basslar: SQUAWK! SQUAWK! CHEEP! CH-CHEEP! SQUAAAAWK! CHEEPCHEEPCHEEP!

Kethin: I know you're long gone, but... well, if ever you swing by here again and find this post fossilised in amber... cheers. You made things extra-super-special, and you know why.

Liontooth: Both in and out of character, spending time with Liontooth can leave you with the feeling you've been severely pummelled in the ring for five straight rounds. I mean that as a compliment, I think.

Daymar: Nothing I can truthfully say here could possibly not invoke the wrath of the community mods, profanity filter, or possibly interpol. You know how I feel about you anyway. And if you're uncertain, it's made clear in the burning wicker effigy I've left outside your house. With love.

Garviel: Hey there bud. How do. Chin up. Don't let Azeroth go to the dogs, will you? Ta.

Bleakheart: Oh Bleaky. You'll be missed. I enjoyed every single time we ran into one another (often literally), and it made me a little sad when you gave up on Bleakheart to play your other characters

Teeboppity: Wait, Teeboppity's a dude? Did everyone else know this?

Elisse: Architect of a very intense bit of RP, a rocky week or two, but a damn fine lady nonetheless.

Ryleen: Nothing has left me with more regret than my leaving just as our characters were getting to know each other. Even as WoW was losing its thrall over me (ho ho ho) you were making RPing on SSL a whole heap of fun. Thankyou, thankyou. If ever we meet in some other game, I swear I'll try and make it up to you.

Adalan: Cheers man. We had fun, didn't we? We threw parties, we dressed fancy, we talked fancy, we made goo-goo eyes at all the women. You've been a fine, fine avatar for wandering Azeroth, and you've more than lived up to your namesakes and sires. And sometime soon I promise, I promise, I'll give you a proper send-off. You have earned it, son.

I realise this list is only a fraction of the people I need to thank, and certainly ought to. There are so many people who made playing WoW so enjoyable for so many years that I literally can't ever list them all. It's you, and you, and you, and you, and you, and you, and all the rest of you.

Thanks.

I'll see you around.

(Actually, a few things:
  • If you want to keep in touch, I can be best reached on the Twitters with (at)thatbobsy.

  • I also have a blog which doesn't get updated quite as much as I would like, which is here: http://thebobsyshow.com/

  • Finally, here's a picture from the Sunfury Ball, to remind us of happier times: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a236/Imperator26/WoWScrnShot_032109_204140.jpg

Cya Sokky. I know it's been a while since I went online in Horde form but I remember you back with ToC was still a guild that RP'd with distinction. And, of course, your crowning glory of the Sunfury Ball! I just wish that I still used the add-on that you created those musical orbs with!

I refuse to take you off my friends list though...
That picture certainly sums up the loss to the realm, I'd say roughly 70-80% of the players have transfered, quit, rerolled or just fallen silent.
    But i'll still be here...

Don't let Azeroth go to the dogs, will you?

As long as I have the power to report names and stand up for the policies this realm was built on, I will do absolutely no less. I'll continue lecturing people on their grammar and written english, the importance of immersing yourself in your character and the many, many reasons you shouldn't have named your character 'Arthasdkllol' or Deathwingsbff'. All in that wonderful northern ramble too...

Take care out there though Adalulz, I will surely miss that most charming and handsome of elves. Winds be at your back.

Really, Adalan? I get no farewell? Was it that insignificant to you?

No, foolishness aside ;-) I just saw your leaving post and wanted to say goodbye, farewell, may grass be greener outside of the game and if not, may you find a livelier community upon return.
What I have always enjoyed of you was that you would give 'lesser' roleplayers, lower levels and the like always a chance, too. Not ever were you rude, simply uncaring or even ignoring those with less reputation or a worse than dreadfull skill in roleplaying. I admire that.
Your tales have kept me hooked for some evenings and indeed, the Sunfury Ball was wonderful.

    Take care!

    You can say that again.
