Mists of Pandaria is the name of the fourth World of Warcraft expansion. The expansion was announced at BlizzCon 2011. This topic will give you the answer to the most common questions about the coming expansion.

This FAQ is a work in progress, and will be updated as each day passes. No information found here is final, the game is still in the making. As the NDA has been lifted, you can now post game footage in this thread. "TBA" means "To Be Announced" - the answer to the question has not yet been announced by Blizzard officials.

Please note, I am NOT a Blizzard Employee, nor anything related. MVP: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/916823456

1 - INTRO

1.1 Q: Mists of Pandaria?

1.1 A: The next expansion pack for World of Warcraft. The title was announced at BlizzCon 2011.

1.2 Q: Has the Beta testing phase begun?

1.2 A: Yes, the closed beta testing started on March 21, 2012.

1.3 Q: How do I join the beta testing?

1.3 A: You have to opt in to join the beta testing, and it will be a closed beta, meaning that you will not be guaranteed an invitation, even if you opt in. To opt in, go to http://eu.battle.net/ and log in with your account. From there, click 'Beta Profile Settings', and follow the instructions.

1.4. Q: If I get invited to the beta testing, does that mean I do not have to buy the game once it is released?

1.4. A: You still have to buy the game when it is released.

1.5. Q: Is there a way to be guaranteed access to the closed beta testing?

1.5. A: Yes. By buying the World of Warcraft Annual Pass, you get a mount, Diablo III, as well as a beta key once the beta starts.

1.6 Q: When will the game be released?

1.6 A: No release date has been announced yet.

1.7 Q: Once Mists of Pandaria is released, do I need to buy the expansion pack in order to see the game changes?

1.7 A: A few weeks/days prior to Mists of Pandaria, a major content patch containing all the game changes, excluding the new continent, class and race will be released. If you do not buy the expansion pack, you will not be able to level past 85, play as a pandaren, play as a monk, enter the Pandaria continent, and possibly more. You will, however, see the game changes, such as the new talent system.

2 - GENERAL

2.1 Q: Which new zones will be added to the game?

2.1 A: The new zones are:
    - The Wandering Isle (1-10, Pandaren sandbox)
    - Jade Forest (85 - 86)
    - Valley of the Four Winds (86 - 88)
    - Krasarang Wilds (86-88)
    - Kun-Lai Summit (87-89)
    - Townlong Steppes (89-90)
    - Dread Wastes (89-90)
    - Vale of Eternal Blossoms (90)

2.2 Q: Which races can I play as a Monk?

    2.2 A:
    Alliance:
    Dwarf
    Gnome
    Human
    Night Elf
    Draenei
    Pandaren

    Horde:
    Blood Elf
    Orc
    Tauren
    Troll
    Forsaken
    Pandaren

All races except Worgen and Goblin can be monks.

2.3 Q: Will there be any changes to the classes as we know them?

2.3 A: Yes, most likely a whole lot! Not much is announced yet, though. Read this thread and the community blog frequently for updates about class changes. I will update this thread every time something new is announced.

2.4 Q: Which new 5-player instances will be released in Mists of Pandaria?

2.4 A: Nine new 5-player dungeons will be available when Mists of Pandaria goes live. Six of these will be found in Pandaria. The names of the currently announced dungeons are:

    - Temple of the Jade Serpent
    - Stormstout Brewery
    - Shado-pan Monastery

(List will be updated as new dungeons get announced)

2.5 Q: We saw two old instances returning with updated lore and Heroic modes when Cataclysm was released. Can we expect to see old instances becoming Heroics in Mists of Pandaria?

2.5 A: Yes. Scholomance and the Scarlet Monastery returns with Heroic modes. Which wings of Scarlet Monastery will be included as Heroics is not yet confirmed. Possibly all? Let's hope...

2.6 Q: Will the current character models be replaced/updated in Mists of Pandaria?

2.6 A: Blizzard had plans about replacing the old character models for MoP, but these plans were scrapped in March 2012.

2.7 Q: Through the past expansions, it seems like item levels, gear stats, health/mana pools and DPS has grown exponentially. Does Blizzard have any plans about changing this prior to Mists of Pandaria?

2.7 A: Yes, Blizzard's development team is aware of the issues related to extremely high numbers. Ghostcrawler wrote a blog post about this earlier this week. What will happen to the numbers is yet to be decided, but they are aware, and change will come.

3 - LEVELLING/TALENTS/SKILLS/CLASS

3.1 Q: Which level 85+ zones are there, and what are the level requirements and suggested levels?

    3.1 A:
The zone names and level requirements are still unconfirmed. Currently, what we have been told is this:
    - The Wandering Isle (1-10, Pandaren sandbox)
    - Jade Forest (85 - 86)
    - Valley of the Four Winds (86 - 88)
    - Krasarang Wilds (86-88)
    - Kun-Lai Summit (87-89)
    - Townlong Steppes (89-90)
    - Dread Wastes (89-90)
    - Vale of Eternal Blossoms (90)

3.2 Q: What is the name of the Pandaren starting zone?

    3.2 A: The Wandering Isle

3.2 Q: Will Mists of Pandaria bring any new classes?

3.2 A: Yes, the Monk. Read chapter 11 for more information.

3.3 Q: How long will it take to get from 85 to 90?

3.3 A: About as long as 80-85 at Cataclysm release.

3.4 Q: Do I get rested XP at level 85?

3.4 A: Yes, you do. You will not get rested XP at level 85 until you buy and upgrade your game with a Mists of Pandaria key, however.

3.5 Q: How will the talent trees look in Mists of Pandaria?

3.5 A: Slightly different from how they look today. The old-fashioned talent trees will be removed, and a new talent system will be implemented. In the system, you get a choice between three different talents every 15 levels (starting at level 15). The talents you pick affect a spell or ability directly, instead of altering your stats, or passively affecting a lot of abilities like the talents we know today.

3.6 Q: Why is Blizzard changing the talent trees?

3.6 A: Blizzard would rather have a simpler design with a lot of depth, than a complicated but shallow design. The goal for Mists of Pandaria remains to avoid having a set of mandatory talents in each tree, and then a three-four optional talents which does not affect your gameplay a lot anyway.

4 - PANDARIA

4.1 Q: Tell me a bit about each of the new zones!

    4.1 A:
    - Jade Forest (85 - 86)
A lush rainforest filled with tall stone spires. Contains at least one dungeon, Temple of the Jade Serpent

    - Valley of the Four Winds (86 - 87)
    TBA

    - Kun-Lai Summit (TBA)
    TBA

    - Townlong Steppes (TBA)
    TBA

    - Vale of Eternal Blossoms (TBA)
    TBA

4.2 Q: Will any of the current zones in Azeroth and Outland be changed?

    4.2 A:
    - Theramore will be taken over by the Horde.
    - More info TBA.

4.3 Q: At which level can I start leveling in the new high-end zones?

4.3 A: You can start your journies in Pandaria at level 85.

4.4 Q: Does Pandaria hold any new outdoor bosses?

4.4 A: It has been announced that outdoor/uninstanced bosses will make their return. More info will be added later.

4.5 Q: Where can I find location X in place Y?

4.5 A: You should check out www.wowpedia.org. Type in the name of location X and it will give you an article about the place, as well as info on which zone it is in and exact coordinates within that zone.

5 - MOUNTS

5.1 Q: Can I use flying mounts in Pandaria?

5.1 A: Yes, you can once you reach level 90.

5.2 Q: Not before level 90?

5.2 A: Flying will not be enabled until level 90, in order to better appreciate environments and quest progression. It is still unknown whether or not you will need a skill/license to fly in Pandaria.

5.3 Q: Will we ever be able to ride faster than 310%?

5.3 A: Blizzard’s words: “That will probably be as fast as mounts will ever get.”

5.4 Q: What will be the Pandaren's racial mount?

    5.4 A: TBA

6 - DUNGEONS

6.1 Q: Which new 5-player instances are there?

    6.1 A: Answered in 2.4;
Nine new 5-player dungeons will be available when Mists of Pandaria goes live. Six of these will be found in Pandaria. The names of the currently announced dungeons are:

    - Temple of the Jade Serpent
    - Stormstout Brewery
    - Shado-pan Monastery

6.2 Q: Will all the 5-player instances have heroic difficulties?

6.2 A: Yes. In addition, we will see heroic difficulties of the classic instances Scholomance and Scarlet Monastery. Scholomance will be 'remixed' to keep all the awesomeness and remove everything that didn't make the cut. Scarlet Monastery will be split in two wings (down from today's four) - Graveyard and Cathedral will make one wing, Library and Armory will make the other.

6.3 Q: Which new 10/25-player raids will be released?

    6.3 A:
    - Mogu'Shan Palace

    More TBA, obviously.

6.4 Q: Will all raids have heroic difficulties?

6.4 A: I can’t say yet if they will have heroic difficulties, but I assume they will.

6.5 Q: Does any instance or raid require an attunement/key?

6.5 A: I find it unlikely that any of the new dungeons/raids will require a key to enter, as the keyring was removed in patch 4.2 in order to save up some UI space. I do not know about attunements yet.

6.6 Q: Which instance requires resistance gear?

    6.6 A: TBA

6.7 Q: What is Challenge Mode?

6.7 A: Mists of Pandaria's Challenge Mode presents a new way to reward great team players and seasoned dungeon specialists. The idea is simple: if you select Challenge Mode for a dungeon, you and your group will be racing against the clock to finish the dungeon as quickly as possible. The faster you finish, the greater your reward.

7 – LOOT, EMBLEMS AND POINTS

7.1 Q: Can we expect to have an emblem system equal to the one we have today?

    7.1 A: TBA

7.2 Q: Will the Honor Point/Arena Point system look like it does today?

    7.2 A: TBA

7.3 Q: Will it be possible to trade in PvE points with PvP points?

    7.3 A: TBA

7.4 Q: Will a new type of emblems/points be released when a new tier of gear comes, or a new arena season starts?

    7.4 A: TBA

8 – PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER

8.1 Q: Will Mists of Pandaria bring any new battlegrounds?

8.1 A: Yes! At the moment, three new battlegrounds are planned to be released with Mists of Pandaria:
    - Azshara Crater: Defense of the Ancients (http://www.wowpedia.org/Azshara_Crater)
    - Stranglethorn Diamond Mines: Payload (http://www.wowpedia.org/Stranglethorn_Diamond_Mines)
    - Valley of Power: Murderball (http://www.wowpedia.org/Valley_of_Power)

8.2 Q: So ‘Azshara Crater’ will finally be released, after seven years?

8.2 A: Azshara Crater was planned as a future Battleground located in Azshara. It was likely to be in southern Azshara, in the Forlorn Ridge. Since the goblins have strip mined the Forlorn Ridge into oblivion, it is now likely that the Battleground will be moved to another location.

8.3 Q: Will we see any World-PvP zones like Wintergrasp and Tol Barad?

    8.3 A: TBA.

8.4 Q: Can we expect to see new arenas?

8.4 A: Yes. 'Tol'vir Proving Grounds' will be the name of the new arena. It will be located in Uldum.

8.5 Q: Will we have outdoor PvP objectives yielding buffs like we had in Eastern Plaguelands, Silithus and all the Outland zones?

    8.5 A: TBA

8.6 Q: Are there any PvP free for all areas? (Even on PvE realms)

    8.6 A: TBA

9 - PROFESSIONS

9.1 Q: Will any new professions be added with Mists of Pandaria?

    9.1 A: TBA

9.2 Q: Will I be able to level my profession skills past the current cap of 525?

9.2 A: Yes, most likely you will. Nothing has been announced yet, but I cannot imagine an expansion with no profession advancement!

9.3 Q: I have a lot of questions about professions, what should I do?

9.3 A: Wait for more information to be released.

More info TBA!

10 - PANDAREN (AS A PLAYABLE RACE)

10.1 N: The Pandaren will be the new race, joining both the Horde and the Alliance. As it looks right now, players are going to advance through the first ten levels, then choose their side. More info about this process will probably be released very soon.

10.2 Q: Which racial abilities do the pandaren have?

10.2 A: The racial abilities are currently planned to be:
    - Epicurean (Passive)
    - Gourmand (Passive)
    - Inner Peace (Passive)
    - Bouncy (Passive)
    - Quaking Palm (CD TBA)

10.2 Q: What is Epicurean?

10.2 A: The Epicurean racial ability increases the stat benefit from food by 100%.

10.3 Q: What is Gourmand?

10.3 A: Gourmand increases the Pandaren's current cooking skill by 15.

10.4 Q: What is Inner Peace?

10.4 A: Rested experience will last twice as long for Pandaren characters.

10.5 Q: What is Bouncy?

10.5 A: The Pandaren takes 50% less fall damage.

10.6 Q: What is Quaking Palm?

10.6 A: " You touch a secret pressure point on an enemy target, putting it to sleep for 3 seconds. "

    (Sounds shady?)

10.7 Q: Which classes will be available to the Pandaren?

10.7 A: The Pandaren can be:
    - Monk
    - Mage
    - Priest
    - Rogue
    - Warrior
    - Shaman
    - Hunter

10.8 Q: Wait a second. No Pandaren Death Knights?

10.8 A: That is correct. As the Pandaren were safely hid away on Pandaria during the scourge invasion, none were killed and turned undead. The Death Knight class is therefore unlikely to become available to Pandaren characters in the future as well... Unless Bolvar Fordragon decides to pick up Frostmourne, of course.

10.9 Q: You say the Pandaren can choose between Alliance and Horde. Does this mean Alliance pandas and Horde pandas can communicate with each other, regardless of faction?

10.9 A: No. Blizzard has stated that this is a particular situation where they feel that the story must yield to gameplay. It is their opinion that limited cross-faction communication is a vital part of the World of Warcraft experience.

11 - MONK

11.1 N: The Monk will be the new playable class, introduced with Mists of Pandaria.

11.2 Q: Which roles can the Monk fill in a group?

11.2 A: The Monk is a hybrid. It can be a tank, a healer, and a damage dealer.

11.3 Q: Will the Monk be a melee fighter, or a spellcaster?

11.3 A: The Monk will deal melee damage.

11.4 Q: Which races can be a Monk?

11.4 A: All races except Worgen and Goblin can be monks.

11.5 Q: Is Monk a hero class?

11.5 A: No, the Monk will be available to everyone, and thus starting at level 1.

11.6 Q: What kind of armour and weapons will the Monk wear/wield?

11.6 A: The Monk will be able to wear cloth and leather armour. They will wield fist weapons, staves, swords, polearms, one- and two-handed maces, and one-handed axes.

11.7 Q: I heard rumours telling that the Monk will not be able to auto-attack a target. True or false?

11.7 A: False! Blizzard planned to make the Monk a non-auto-attack class, but this was changed in Beta build 15508.

11.6 Q: Which combat resource(s) will the Monk use?

11.6 A: The Monk will use Chi, Light Force and Dark Force as combat resources. More information will be added. The Monk will also use stances, the currently known are called Drunken Tiger and Ox.

Great post. Hopefully enlightening for a lot of posters that have been asking questions since MoP was announced.

1.3 - I think there is an "I" missing in the header. Also about the beta you might want to add information about the annual pass even though it's pretty much everywhere - there might be those that missed out on it. Up to you - I don't think it's absolutely needed, but as you asked for feedback that's one that I thought of.

Again - Thanks much for taking time and I do hope this post gets stickied!

I'm not a Blizzard employee, so I am afraid I have no more impact on the expansion development than you have. We are the community, though, so our voice definitely counts. Maybe you should suggest this in a separate thread? :)

USER INTEFACE Q:
1. do we see in game DPS meter instead of installing Addon in next expantion?
2. do we see some official or in game tip/guide for macroes in next expantion?

game mechanism:
1. do we see the balance and change in old dungeon/raid bosses due to play mechanism change in next expantion? for example the way that you should hold aggro on mobs or their resistance on some school of spells and so on? it is a problem that exist right now in some Vanila and TBC encounters, they are not change corresponding to cata and WotLK. as an example in Twin Emperors: Vek'lor & Vek'nilash encounter in Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, due to aggro mechanism of bosses and the fact that all DPS classes rihgt now have some auto DoT effect on their spells or abilities.
