Are all gamers geeks or nerds?

Well, sorry to disapoint all those haters out there... but no, not all gamers are geeks/nerds.
Let me go deeper in to explain my point Firstly to get the ball rolling I must ask a question to answer my question, who are the people that say all gamers are geeks/nerds? Are they the real nerds/ geeks that are thrustrated by the idea their social life suffers and other gamers doesnt and they attempt to steryotype all gamers as nerds/geeks to make themselves feel better? Makes me think... does it make you think? Does playing games makes people a nerd/geek? Are all the gamers in the world destined to the cold, harsh reality that one day we are going to wake up as the steryotype gamer... Fat, wearing a stripey sweater, with over grown curely hair and forgetting the fact that there is indeed more people outside our parents houses? Ofcourse not! Why does it have to mean that? If anything to me it gives me a more wide - spread social life... talking and socialising with people that are outside of my college/city/country and letting me know what the rest of the world is like... Can you start to feel the love? In my life, I have achieved many goals in sport... and in my social life and being a gamer I feel have made me more layed back, more capable to help people who are not doing so well - help pick them up and make them feel better in a hard spot in their life - Just like when telling someone who to do more DPS while trying to drop that raid - boss he/ she is having trouble with and when you make the difference, it makes you feel good and you make a friend... the same applies outside, just in a different way! So guys and girls of the world, dont fall into this steriotype, dont become what the bad people of the world want you to be, be social, be a gamer, be successful... be who you are! After all... the one thing in life you will be the absolute best at over everyone else, is being you! Thank you for reading this thread... And I hope you all have a very merry christmas! You're right. It's just an outdated stereotype (which, lets be honest was encouraged a lot by the media back then) which you might have to live with for a while, but will fade out eventually when we, the 20 & 30 year olds of today are the elderly generation.
What concerns me though, is people who game as their only real hobby... |

Yes they are throwing stereotype crap not only for WoW but for several reasons in life coz they feel insecure.If someone starts bullying you like this ignore him.I have a social life and I often get this kind of situation.

I am a nerdy geek and I love it. Being 'normal' both sucks and blows at the same time. I would rather spend time doing something I enjoy with people I enjoy doing it with than anything else.
That may not not have been to the point but I saw the title and felt ranty...much love Edit: I have a physical job that involves fighting sometimes, unfortunately. Being Nerdy keeps me sane :S x |

I'm neither a nerd or a geek, I do plenty in my social life and enjoy many other forms of culture and entertainment outside of the game, but I am a sucker for the fantasy genre and WoW has been a side hobby of varying importance for 4-5 years. We just get on fine, but it's not the focal point of my interests, nor are my interests focussed around fantasy/WoW-like-items in general.

All gamers are nerds. It's just that the stereotypic nerd image has moved alot from the 80's version (which you described) to the 2011 version..
There are still 80's versions out there though... :) |

QFMFT! I consider myself a geek, though I have an active social life, am happily married & am (relatively) phsically active. I don't see my geekiness as a bad thing, it's the reason I'm also so good at what I do at work, allowing me to have the means to further my lifestyle choices. |
