<A batch of posters has been placed here and therearound Silvermoon, but also bulletin boards of other cities. The posters sport motifs of scarlet roses with flowing, thorny stems, as opposed to everpresent hearts.>
Dear fellow citizens of Silvermoon and the Horde! In the everpresent celebration of the trappings of love that surround us it is easy to forget about the spirit of this sacred emotion. To ensure my brethren - and who isn't a brethren to a soul filled with love and affection? - I, Lady Selesnya Thalethim, announce the Festival of Hearts, a celebration of all that makes love so dear to us. Come friends, celebrate together with House Thalethim, come masked or openly, come with passion in your heart or still waiting for its spark! Come and show how much love lies in your heart and compete for the title of King or Queen of Beauty and Grace, the Most Beloved Sentient of all Azeroth! With warmest wishes, Lady Selesnya Thalethim <Small font: Signups and information available all day long at House Thalethim office.> Original infopost: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3161450939?page=1#6 OOC info & schedule: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3161450939?page=1#7 Misc info: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3161450939?page=1#8 |

This sounds like a really cool idea, though it's a shame it relies so heavily on an addon to work, not everyone likes using or even -can- use GHI.
Thank god I decided to quit the game.
I kinda like this idea but seems more suited to an evening ball or something like that.
I really like this idea!
you get two thumbs up from me! |
There was this idea of using the (kitschy, imo) Love is in the Air event as a basis for a slightly more highbrow IC event, a tournament and celebration of courtly love.
Rules in a nutshell (very brief, the longer version was eaten by the forum):
Waiting for feedback and ideas! |

OOC:
To start off, this will be the first time I'm making something of such Gremkarc-ish proportions, so any help, be it good advice, organising or running, will be mightily appreciated. I hate Valentines. Really. But I like medieval romance, chivalry and amour courtois, dedicating one's victories to one's beloved lady, poetry by the moonlight and arranged marriages breaking before the power of true love, so it probably evens out. I would like the Festival to reflect that other kind of love, not sending each other pink cards. From an RPers point of view, the Festival of Hearts is just pointless fun and games, there's no real conflict (unless two gentlemen try to woo one lady, ha!) and the reward is negligible. Still, hey, it's RP and in my school, I don't need a reason to be there, just an excuse. The Festival will centre around four main events: The Grand Hunt - 13th February, 8 pm server time, Farstrider Retreat in Eversong Woods Lady Selesnya believes that to love is to find things that make one's beloved happy. To tat end, she hired a small army of mages who busily transmute common animals into outlandish and exotic trophies to be captured alive and offered to one's chosen. The person with the most applauded catch will be crowned the King of the Hunt. Wine Tasting - 15th February, 8 pm server time, Saltheril's Haven in Eversong Woods Wine is the food of love. It is happy coincidence that the time to broach the kegs and open the bottles came just when it did - it allows everyone to give in a little to the pink haze of passion and alcohol. Prestige will be gained and lost, based on how well one judges the quality of this year's products. Poetry Slam - 17th February, 8 pm server time, High Rise in Thunder Bluff If there was no love, the gift of poetry would have been squandered completely. On this special occasion, the Thunder Bluff Storytelling will be given to those who speak of love... and the judging audience who will elect the Prince of Poets.* The Grand Ball - 18th February, 8 pm server time, Silvermoon's Pride, moored to the Isle of Quel'danas The week's efforts will end in a high point at the Blessed Isle of Quel'danas where, in the light of fireworks, the King or Queen of Love and Grace shall be chosen. Of course, the four events will only be high points of the Festival. Between them, you're heartily invited to roleplay: try win each others' affections, discuss costumes while master tailors ferociously work on them. * People who are bored with this nonsense may opt to focus on the slam part. |

Miscellaneous:
The Competition and tokens: The ground rules of the competition are laid out in the original info post. Here I will show two possible ways of making tokens work. A) With TRP:
B) Without TRP (easier, but straining on Edanna's bagspace):
Costumed characters: If your character isn't one to attend parties, why not disguise their identity behind a costume and mask, with a baroque, descriptive stage name to complete the ensemble? Provided the other attendees are discreet, your character's fun-loving side will never be revealed... unless you wish so. Or maybe attend both as yourself and a masked persona? |
Is TRP compatible with GHI or will GHI users have to use the second method?
We can try it out tomorrow.
I'll just say I fully support this, and with the mail-option meaning you don't need a specific addon, it's even better. Hopefully i'll be able to attend some of it.

Bump. Also, this festival might be completely haphazard, with preparation for a postponed exam taking up all my time. Also also, looking for co-hosts to supervise the hunt in case my guildies are unavailable.

BIBLE ACCORDING TO ORWELL:
*COUGH.* 1) Never use a metaphor, simile or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print. 2) Never use a long word where a short one will do. 3) If it is possible to cut a word out, ALWAYS cut it out. 4) Never use the passive when you can use the active. 5) Never use a foreign phrase, scientific word or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent. 6) Break ANY of these rules? Then say anything outright barbarous! HAPHAZARD? WHO ARE YOU, STEPHEN FRY? |
Never heard of Stephen Fry. Anyway, 30 minutes till it starts! *panic*
I don't think these even aired in Poland. From the event news - catastrophe narrowly averted! Thanks to D&T for showing up! |
V for Vendetta is a film - the one the "Anonymous masks" are from. Worth a watch, even if Fry is only in it relatively briefly. QI is very funny and worth youtubing.
