Shaman healing help

I just need a bit help with what to cast and all when i'm healing. I use earth shiled on tank riptide, healing wave and... Here is where i'm getting a bit lost as those 2 (Riptde and Healing wave) are my 2 main heals. Healing surge and Greater healing is taking much mana but doing okey if i need to heal fast as Shamans don't have instant like a druid that i have been using a lot. Chain heal i'm using when other people are ofc getting damaged or healing rain.
But am i doing the right there ? Or do i need to change a bit ? Any addons maybe ? I never liked healbot as i have been using a laptop with no real mouse until i got the Razer naga one. |

Well what I do is, obviously precast earthen shield on the tank. After that it's pretty much riptide the tank (or somebody that is taking quiet a hefty piece of damage) and cast Healing Wave. So yeah that's pretty much the bread and butter healing if nothing's going wrong.
Greater Healing wave is really nice once your tank gets below 80% as mastery will start to show it's worth. It's also adviseable to cast unleash elements if you need a big heal as it will boost your next single target heal by 30%. Always nice to get your tank or yourself up after a big hit. This is all keeping 5 mans in mind. I do not know anything about raid healing so i'll keep that for the wiser people on this forum. So in short, you are doing nothing wrong. :) |
only do this if you can spare the global on the unleash. but besides that ye keep it up and you'll be like thra...me! |

it's better to move the point from ancestral resolve to cleansing waters. as you gear up you will benefit more from mastery and depending on the group composition you can use your healing stream totem.
as a casual i use healbot, decursive and dbm. enjoy your shammy, it's fun! :-) |

Mana gets better as you gear up, in part because you can then make use of Telluric Currents, which is our strongest mana regeneration talent right now. It's very intellect dependent, though, and won't really help you until you get ~350 average item level, and doesn't truly shine until 370+.
Stay away from Healing Surge. It'll just eat through your mana, and has done pathetic healing in PvE ever since it was nerfed. Once you get decent gear (item level 360+) you should also stop using Healing Wave, instead using Greater Healing Wave to heal people quickly and Lightning Bolt to regain mana. It's more mana efficient at higher gear levels, and also ensures that you'll have a 90%+ uptime on Tidal Waves. But for now, keep using Healing Wave. Unleash Elements is useful for keeping your mana up, as it's cheap. Cast UE followed by a GHW or Chain Heal immediately followed by a Riptide, and both spells (including the HoT) will benefit from the healing increase, providing a lot of extra healing for a minimal amount of mana. You can also use it for pre-casting big heals when you know that damage is incoming, either on the whole group or on the tank. If you can time your casts so that Riptide comes off cooldown during the GHW/CH, all the better. It's generally a slight loss in healing per second, but an increase in healing per mana. If mana is still an issue, make sure you're doing all you can to mitigate incoming damage. Always keep Healing Stream up for the resistance buff, use Windshear any time you can, use Grounding Totem when appropriate, Hex, always keep Riptide on the tank for the Ancestral Fortitude procs, Spirit Link Totem before predictable big hits, etc. Also make sure you let your totem and HoTs work, and don't heal people up if they're already above 80% health.
For five mans, yes. For raiding, Cleansing Waters is largely useless while Ancestral Resolve is great. AR combined with Spark of Life does wonders for your survivability, and damage mitigated is healing you don't need to do, which in effect is equivalent to a healing increase. AR 2/2 is comparable to a 3% healing increase in a ten man raid. The effect of Cleansing Waters is negligible, as there's only one thing to actually dispel in Dragon Soul. |

Healing as a freshly dinged shaman is a pain. It get's better though, so keep at it.

Stay away from Healing Surge. It'll just eat through your mana, and has done pathetic healing in PvE ever since it was nerfed. I see what your getting at but i would also recommend to use it as a panic heal on someone whos taking heavy and constant damage but i personally don't really use it if i dont have a tidal wave buff. |

For single target heals, I only use 3 abilities
Earth shield the tank, keep it up Riptide as a HoT, and I cast it just before the tank engages Greater Healing Wave - I don't bother with Healing Wave or Surge at all If I have mana problems, I tend not to heal if they are over 85% or so (unless I know a big spike is coming). One way to think about it is not to try to keep them at 100%, but to keep them above 30% (or 0% :) ). If the tank is about 85% and not under heavy fire I'll just chuck it a Riptide and let it tick up. I think gear will be your biggest issue right now. At your stage, I just bought PVP blues on the AH (i377 which on my server were 200g-800g ish each). I recommend it if you have the gold. |
