I would love to see a merge with other servers
|

so would pretty much everyone on our realm we have pretty much lost everyone on KT apart from the few dedicated guilds who are staying and riding out the dust track till the end but if something aint done that dust track will come to an end sooner rather than later its sad to see it happeneing and i myself refuse to pay to transfer my character when KT is my home

To add my support for your realm, and semi-hijack for our own:
The population of Sporeggar have been crying out for transfers/migration/merge for an eternity. Horde-side population at peak times is often less than 75 level 85's No-one cares. I've even phoned Customer Services to politely discuss it. It was clear that they expected me to pay X times PCT fee to move toons off a dying realm, rather than publicly admit it's a bad situation, and help the few that are left. In fact, this thread will probably get moved very quickly from the less public General, and quietly filed away into the realm specific section - where it is of no use at all. Thus supporting the theory above. |

Hi Alassé, I agree with your sentiment.
FYI I know of at least one other topic, but probably there are more, that try to address the same issue: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3147737550#5 |

I've tried many many many times to ask for help with KT. They just don't want to know.

its what does my head in they say they are player focused and they moan about ppl cancelling their subs if they actaully wanna stop ppl cancelling their subs and they actually want to focus on their player base maybe its about time they started listening to that player base

I hear what Blizzard say with it being difficult technically to "merge" realms.
However Character Migration is perfectly possible, so if they WANT they can open up FCM from a couple of dying realms, to 1 or 2 realms that can do with a population boost these issues can be combatted. ok, so a few people may end up not being able to register the character name they had on their old realm, but really other than this I can't see any downsides to the player's i.e. paying customers. (Some "old guilds" may have sentimental value in being the "first/oldest/best/whatever of a server". However if the tradeoff is that recruitment becomes easier again, and there is a better competitive environment to play in (that may spark more generally peoples interest to play the game again/continue) then they may be able to just look past that. And find that the positives outweigh the negatives) Those characters that did not move themselves at the end of the FCM period, due to inactivity, should automatically be moved/copied by Blizzard to one of the realms and the old realm can then be suspended untill they need it again. With my limited knowledge of the technicalities, this should be perfectly possible, even when it is done en-masse, the only thing it needs is the WILL to do from Blizzard. |

I might be stepping on a few toes with my post and you'll be crit by my wall of text inc. So stop reading now already, will ya???
Blizzard would be foolish to give into server merges and I don't believe for a moment that it has anything to do with the money they earn from transferring toons. Most people I know, me included, would not move all of my toons to a new server. It's way too expensive, so why not just buy BoA heirlooms, send them over and level from scratch. Not that it is hard at all to level these days, but I'll get to it later. To give in to merges would mean that Blizzard officially accepts and acknowledges that the lost subs (over a million) are gone for good, at least for a considerable amount of time. It's bad business. So what to do? Wrap this catastrophe called Cataclysm up as quickly as possible and make people sub for another 12 months by offering D3 for free. I did it and I could slap myself silly for it. These 'save [insert server name]' threads are all over the place on the official realm forums but I can't remember the last time they actually offered free Xtransfers. It's been ages. I am always a little astonished when I see these threads pop up, though. And funny enough, it always boils down to a few aspects when I speak to the old players who have been playing the game since Vanilla/TBC. 1, The game is 7 years old. It is old. How many bosses do you have to kill before it gets repetitive and boring. Every raid instance has its own Brutallus dps check by now (Chimaeron heroic, Baleroc heroic, Ultraxion heroic) with minor changes to the mechanics. 2. Outside of raids, the game is shockingly boring. They made leveling easier, which is ok, but I managed to gear up my newly dinged Paladin from ilevel 334 to 380 within a day. Admittedly, I was lucky with the drops. But after about 48 hours of playing at level 85, my Paladin is done with BH/LFR/VP cap and is parked for the next reset. Boredom all over the place. 3. As a recruitement officer, I know that recruitement has always been a hard job. Finding the right players, with the right attitudes and the right skills is a !@#$% to achieve. Now more than ever, of course, with so many people quitting the game. But let's be honest, who remembers the goold old days of Black Temple/Mount Hyjal attunement runs back in TBC just to get the right players for the BT progression? What always makes me smile when the 'save our server' threads come up, is when I hear the reasoning for transferring away from KT. 'It's boring, it's dead, yadda yadda yadda'. So let's look at servers with high popluations, look at the Draenor official forums. http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3056625862 . Interesting, in my opinion. So you transfer to a server like Draenor because KT is dead. You are one of a million guilds with approxiamately the same progress, you are one of a million players on a server where you actually only know your new guildies, or old guildies if you have transferred as a guild. Good luck with getting the attention of, as mentioned above, the right players, with the right attitudes and the right skills on the level you want to raid. Of course, it's more going on on those servers, but as I said, you are just one of a million It's the same game all over again. The competition for good players is just as brutal over there as it is here Now, I'm not saying that KT isn't bleeding out. It is. And I am shocked to see how many 25 man guilds went down in the last 12 months. But a guild's progression is not automatically bound to its server population. Or how do you explain this: http://www.wowprogress.com/pve/eu/auchindoun. One of the best guilds in the world on a server that has a 0.3/1 player ratio of Horde/Alliance. And they are a horde guild. Vengeance is struggling just as much as any other 10/25 man guild when it comes to making raids happe. But somehow we manage to do it. We kill new bosses, maybe not as fast as others, nonetheless, so far we're not going to give up and move. Besides, most of our players wouldn't want to move anyway. Considering all the things mentioned above, in my opinion, we have to live with the fact that Blizz ^-*!ed up royally with Cataclysm. Personally, I like the coziness of our server, but that is my own opinion of KT. So instead of panicking, I will sit back and relax, spam my recruitement macro, bump the recruitement threads, enjoy raiding with my fellow guildies, which is always a good laugh, sit out the rest of this horrible expansion and wait for MoP. And if they don't make MoP superduperperfect, I will let my silly 12 months sub run out and leave the game for good. |

I'm pretty sure i've said this numerous times over the past couple of months but i really don't think that blizzard will care that much while they're getting money off people willing to transfer from these "dead" realms, especially considering the amount of people i know have transferred from KT in the past month.

I know, babe, and I know where you're coming from. But ever since the random dungeon finder, realms are not as important as they used to be. And Blizzard knows that. In the old days, it mattered which server you were on when you wanted to run heroics. You needed to find the tank, the healer and the dps and you were spamming trade. The dungeon finder made this obsolete. Does it matter if you're on a high or low populated server when you want to do dungeons? No. Did it kill the communities on the servers? In my opinion, yes, it did. There used to be much more interaction between the guilds. But hey, now we queue up for 5mans or LFR, in, done, out. |

I plan on making my own community with the RealID friends I have. I can do all my heroics and pre current tier raids with Real ID and will stick to doing those with my friends instead of that LFG crap.
About KT, i still have chars on the server but I moved to Kazzak. Only been here a day but it does seem obscenely busy and there is a lot going on. Im putting a lot of faith in MOP, since if its as bad as this expansion, I see a lot of ppl quitting for good. Maybe allow Blizzard one screw up but not two. Bubu is right in a lot of things. We did 5/7 heroic in one week on KT which put us top, here on kazzak we are something like 27th. But, the thing with that is it makes me determined to try even harder. I'll miss KT, I'll keep chars there, but I couldnt, as a recruitment officer in one of the few 25 man guilds left keep a 25 man heroic raiding guild afloat when apps have gone from 7 a week, to 1 in 6 weeks. It just doesnt work. Khayal SoD Akkadian - After the Fall afterthefall.guildlaunch.com shadowsofdoom.com |

At the end of the day, Luke, and please don't take offense, it all comes down to whether you're willing to go through rough times or not. And of course what expectations you as a player have of the game. In my four years in Vengeance, I have seen so many up's and down's, moments where it looked like we couldn't go any further, but somehow we did. And there's the clue to it all, I think. 'Somehow' is surely not enough for other players, I, for one, am proud that we're still carrying on. |
|
|
Ive been through plenty of rough times. Ive given 2 years of my life on this server. Now Im doing something for me.
|
Fair enough. Your gametime, your money. But don't blame the server for a game that simply lost its appeal for loads of people. Transfering away is fine when you have different goals. A merge between servers will, however, not improve the recruitement, or the quantity and quality of good players, as there are more guilds to compete with. |
|
I agree with Bùbu, a merge won't solve your recruitment problems at all. The problems with recruitment stem from the model you use to recruit, not the lack of players. Application-based recruitment is an archaic model that simply doesn't work these days. The applications you get are nearly always awful by the standard you are expecting, and that rare gem who applies once in a millennium is not enough to make it solely sustainable.
The answer to the recruitment problem faced by guilds is simple: poach players from other guilds. Log stalk, find good players from guilds who may not be as competitive as you and encourage them to join you. Easier said than done, but if you carpet bomb as many different targets as you can, you're bound to pick up a few decent players to sustain you. Guild rankings obviously help a lot to attract players, but sometimes a little bit of charm is all that's needed. A lot of people seem to have moral qualms about poaching players, but it happens regularly even in the real world. Many of the top employers poach from other companies or public service organisations by offering more competitive salaries, working conditions etc. This is in addition to their regular CV/covering letter/form application system. |
To me the realm only started to seem dead when all the guilds started to leave. Both of my previous guilds have left and gone to Draenor, it's sad to see, but I can't really see what people expect Blizzard to do. They can't force people to stay here, and it seems to be the mantra which everyone is chanting; "the server is Dead!" "the server is dying!" and the more we repeat it to ourselves the more we are convinced and the more of us decide to leave. Which actually causes the server to become what we are telling ourselves it is. I for one will not be transferring away. Kul Tiras will only die if we let it. |
I don't think it ever really worked for us, considering the amount of crap applications that I have seen in those years. Vengeance, and there's no denying, is simply not a guild that will attract super-duper players from other servers, hungry for achievements and titles and server firsts. But that's not the point. However, we have managed to attract good players over the time, simply by the way this guild has been functioning and run over the course of time. I still hear people on vent joking and laughing during raids, but we are serious and concentrated when necessary. And this, after we had to re-structure the guild two months ago, so much so that we weren't even sure if we could make it. As to what you call poaching off other guilds, Nid. That's also something that's been happening ever since I started raiding. You get to know people from other guilds, you get a feeling whether this person will fit into the guild, and then you let it drop: 'Oh yeah, raiding is not easy but it's really good fun, we're looking actually for a healer/melee/ranged, by the way.' That's how it works, and I don't know how many times I've been asked to switch guilds. However, I find it amusing how many people jump on the 'this server is dead' train, when in reality the majority of the realm would not transfer anyway, because it's either too expensive, or the motivation is not there, or they are fine where they are now. But for some the grass is always greener on the other side. I don't play as much as I used to, out of varies reasons, but come Sunday, I log onto vent and hear people just babbling away, making jokes and I'm having a good time (again). |
