Hi guys!
For the past few months IRL I've been attending a folk singing club as I'm a big fan of tradition and singing/folk music in general. And a thought occurred to me to ply some of these songs to WoW, albeit with a few altered lyrics :) Here's one I came up with in a matter of minutes. Anymore I can think of I'll put up here. Feel free to use any of them, should your characters be inclined to singing :P Also feel free to add your own here too. I'll also post links to the actual songs if I can find them so you can also imagine the tune when they're being sung too. -Darkmoon Faire- Are you going to Darkmoon Faire? Get your beer down, bob, we're moving. Are you going to Darkmoon Faire, Boys? I'll go to the fair like we always done, Get on my mount and give it a run, Get a few friends and have some fun. Down at Darkmoon Faire, boys, Down at Darkmoon Fair. Who did you see at Darkmoon Faire? Get your beer down, bob, we're moving. Who did you see at Darkmoon Faire, Boys? Young ones, old ones, me and you, Travellers, farmers, visitors too, They even had a holopad crew, Down at Darkmoon Faire, boys, Down at Darkmoon Faire. What did you drink at Darkmoon Faire? Get your beer down, bob, we're moving. What did you drink at Darkmoon Faire, Boys? Twenty-one pints and one for my head, Or a scotch or a brandy or a port instead, All served up in a muddy old shed, Down at Darkmoon Faire, boys, Down at Darkmoon Faire. What did you buy at Darkmoon Faire? Get your beer down, bob, we're moving. What did you buy at Darkmoon Faire, Boys? A crockery set that's got no cups, A brand new shirt that's got no cuffs, An old workhorse that's got no puff, Down at Darkmoon Faire, boys, Down at Darkmoon Faire. What did you get at Darkmoon Faire? Get your beer down, bob, we're moving. What did you get at Darkmoon Faire, Boys? Two black eyes and a broken nose, I caught a cold and I damn near froze, A bump on me head and I tore my clothes, Down at Darkmoon Faire, boys, Down at Darkmoon Faire. Will you go next month to Darkmoon Faire? Get your beer down, bob, we're moving. Will you go next month to Darkmoon Faire, Boys? If the pubs are open and the beer is free, If the landlord says, “It's all on me.” If I can't think of anywhere else to be, I'll go to Darkmoon Faire, boys, I'll go to Darkmoon Faire. Unfortunately I couldn't find a video or recording of the song online :( |

Here's one that required minimal changes. More suited for Alliance PoV than Horde I think, but it's a lovely song either way. Enjoy!
-Lovely on the Water- As I rode out one-a morning In the springtime of the year, I overheard a sailor Likewise his lady fair. They sang a song together, Made the valleys for to ring; And the birds on the high in the meadows ghey (had to change the spelling for filter) They proclaimed a lovely spring. Said the sailor to his true love, “We soon must sail away. But it's lovely on the water To hear the music play.” Said Billy unto Nancy, “I soon must sail away. But if I had my way, my love, It's along with you I'd stay. But our King he do want sailors, And we must leave the shore. And we must face the wars, my love, Where the cannons loud do roar.” And the harbour it stands crowded With the women weeping sore, For husbands, sons and sweethearts Gone to face the cannons roar. “So come change your ring with me, love, For we may meet once more; For the Light above will guard my love Where the cannons loud do roar." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n01T7ejqKWk Steeleye Span's version has slightly different lyrical arrangements, but the tune is the same as the version I know :) |

Different countries see this song in different lights, but I always thought of it as a sad, sentimental and heartbreaking song. This one required no changes at all. Enjoy.
-The Foggy Dew- When I was a bachelor young and bold, I followed the roving trade. And all the harm that ever I done, I courted a handsome maid. I wooed her all the summertime, And a part of the winter too. And the only harm that ever I done Was to keep off the foggy dew. It was all on one night about twelve o'clock, When I lay fast asleep. There came this maid to my bedside And bitterly she did weep. She wept, she moaned, she tore her hair, And she cried, “What shall I do?” So all that night I held her tight Just to keep off the foggy dew. Well all the first part of that night How we did sport and play, And all the latter part of that night Snug in my arms she lay. And when the broad daylight appeared She cried, “I am undone!” “Oh, hold your tongue, you silly young girl, For the foggy dew have gone.” I never told nobody her name And damned be if I do, But many's the time I think of that night When I kept off the foggy dew. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn7LThsH4B0 |

A good song for sailors and pirates :)
-All for Me Grog- All for me grog, me jolly, jolly grog All for me beer and tobacca Well I spent all me tin on the lassies drinking gin And across the distant oceans I must wander Where are me boots, me noggin, noggin boots They're all gone for beer and tobacca For the heels they are worn out and the toes are kicked about And the soles are out looking for better weather And it's all for me grog, me jolly, jolly grog All for me beer and tobacca Well I spent all me tin on the lassies drinking gin And across the distant oceans I must wander Where is me shirt me noggin, noggin shirt It's all gone for beer and tobacca For the collar is all worn and the sleeves they are all torn And the tail is looking out for better weather And it's all for me grog, me jolly, jolly grog All for me beer and tobacca Well I spent all me tin on the lassies drinking gin And across the distant oceans I must wander I'm sick in the head and I haven't gone to bed Since I first came ashore from me slumber For I spent all me dough on the lassies don't you know Far across the distant oceans I must wander And it's all for me grog, me jolly, jolly grog All for me beer and tobacca Well I spent all me tin on the lassies drinking gin And across the distant oceans I must wander http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iELIDMyzytI |

Those are great songs! Thank you so much for sharing. If only an Kaldorei Magister ever cut loose just once in her life and got into drinking and singing. I would love to play around with those in game, thats for sure.

You could always gen a character that would. Or even then I imagine Elves would be more suited for the romantic/tragic songs.
lol, awesome ^-^ |

The Elves do have the Lament of the Highborn, I suppose.

Thank you for sharing, indeed! Lovely songs :3
I used to have a bard character, and I drew some inspiration from WoW-ified singer Cranius (from songs such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LcJXckn0Lo&list=UUEe-H9RaCVCVsXkZCUJDecg&index=12&feature=plcp ) and also liked Silly Wizard who bring some Scottish folk music (such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv0zauTaUj0&list=FLf-HqUfdtO6DMJaA9OU6GXg&index=19&feature=plpp_video ). Maybe these might also inspire you to sing them or even adapt more lyrics ^^ Either way, enjoy! |

One of my absolute favourite folk songs. Took a little bit of research and a lot of editing for this one, but I think it works. Enjoy! =D
-Barrett's Privateers- Oh, the year was five hundred and seventy eight, How I wish I was in Ratchet now! A letter of marque came from the King To the scummiest vessel I’d ever seen. Gods damn them all! I was told we’d cruise the seas for riches untold. We’d fire no guns, shed no tears. Now I’m a broken man on a Stormwind Pier, The last of Barrett’s Privateers. Well, Elcid Barrett cried the town How I wish I was in Ratchet now! For twenty brave men all fisherman who Would make for him the Antelope’s crew Gods damn them all! I was told we’d cruise the seas for riches untold. We’d fire no guns, shed no tears. Now I’m a broken man on a Stormwind Pier, The last of Barrett’s Privateers. The Antelope sloop was a sickening sight How I wish I was in Ratchet now! She had a list to the port and her sails in rags And the cook in the scuppers with the staggers and jags Gods damn them all! I was told we’d cruise the seas for riches untold. We’d fire no guns, shed no tears. Now I’m a broken man on a Stormwind Pier, The last of Barrett’s Privateers. On the King’s birthday we put to sea How I wish I was in Ratchet now! We were ninety one days to Booty Bay And pumping like madmen all the way Gods damn them all! I was told we’d cruise the seas for riches untold. We’d fire no guns, shed no tears. Now I’m a broken man on a Stormwind Pier, The last of Barrett’s Privateers. On the ninety sixth day we sailed again How I wish I was in Ratchet now! When a bloody great galleon hove in sight With our cracked four-pounders we made to fight. Gods damn them all! I was told we’d cruise the seas for riches untold. We’d fire no guns, shed no tears. Now I’m a broken man on a Stormwind Pier, The last of Barrett’s Privateers. The galleon lay low down with gold How I wish I was in Ratchet now! She was broad and fat and loose in stays But to catch her took the Antelope two whole days. Gods damn them all! I was told we’d cruise the seas for riches untold. We’d fire no guns, shed no tears. Now I’m a broken man on a Stormwind Pier, The last of Barrett’s Privateers. Then at length we stood two cables away How I wish I was in Ratchet now! Our cracked four-pounders made an awful din But with one fat ball the galleon stove us in. Gods damn them all! I was told we’d cruise the seas for riches untold. We’d fire no guns, shed no tears. Now I’m a broken man on a Stormwind Pier, The last of Barrett’s Privateers. the Antelope shook and pitched on her side How I wish I was in Ratchet now! Barrett was smashed like a bowl of eggs And the Maintruck carried off both me legs. Gods damn them all! I was told we’d cruise the seas for riches untold. We’d fire no guns, shed no tears. Now I’m a broken man on a Stormwind Pier, The last of Barrett’s Privateers. So here I lay in my twenty-third year How I wish I was in Ratchet now! It’s been six years since we sailed away And I just made Stormwind yesterday. Gods damn them all! I was told we’d cruise the seas for riches untold. We’d fire no guns, shed no tears. Now I’m a broken man on a Stormwind Pier, The last of Barrett’s Privateers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIwzRkjn86w |

And now a depressing one to bring you all down again :P This one needed quite a bit of modification. Also, I never thought I'd cry over dead sheep until I heard this song. Enjoy.
-The Sheep are 'Neath the Snow- Today the deep snow fall Last night a sharp frost Oh the young lambs are living But the old sheep are lost Oh arise you my shepherds And away to the hill For the old sheep are dying And the snow's falling still The master of the farmstead Lay sick on his bed With the cry of lost ewes And a fire in his head Oh arise you my shepherds And away to the hill For the old sheep are dying And the snow's falling still Said the master of the farmstead I am sick and alone My sheep cry for succor My men yield them none Oh arise you my shepherds And away to the hill For the old sheep are dying And the snow's falling still I have sheep in near Gol,Bolar I have goats at Frostmane At the cliffs near Amberstill My ewes go astray Oh arise you my shepherds And away to the hill For the old sheep are dying And the snow's falling still Then out went the shepherds In darkness and dread And high on the mountain They found the sheep dead The whole flock lay smothered In a drift on the hill And over their bodies The snow gathered still Said the master of the farmstead My sheep died in vain And while I lay helpless None heeded their pain And so they all perished For want of your skill And over their bodies The snow gathers still http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ET3EERsT9gY&feature=related |

Oh go on then, it's Valentine's Day xD
This was quite a tough one given the song's original title 'On One April Morning' since Blizzard haven't officially given the in-game months any names, so I've had to improvise. Also, in every version of this song I can find on the web they switch the 3rd and 4th verses around. But I'm sticking to how I learned it. Enjoy! -One Crisp, Clear Morning- 'Twas on one crisp, clear morning just as the sun was rising 'Twas on one crisp, clear morning, I heard the small birds sing They were singing Lovely Nancy, for love it is a fancy, And sweet were the notes that I heard the small birds sing. For now young men are false and are full of all deceiving Young men are false and seldom do prove true For they're roving and they're ranging, their minds are always changing, They are thinking to find out some other girl that's new. Oh and why do you spend all your long time in courting? Why do you spend all your long time in vain? For I don't intend to marry; I would rather longer tarry Oh young men, don't you spend all your single lives in vain. And Oh, if I had but my own heart in keeping, Oh, if I had but my own heart back again Close to my bosom I would lock it up forever And it would never, never stray so far from me again. 'Twas on one crisp, clear morning just as the sun was rising 'Twas on one crips, clear morning, I heard the small birds sing They were singing Lovely Nancy, for love it is a fancy, And sweet were the notes that I heard the small birds sing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaVNCXh6Bok |

Here's one for Winter veil :)
I've tried to put in an equal number of races from each faction, to give the feel of equality, since Winter Veil is a time of sharing, cheer, and camaraderie. Enjoy! -Azeroth Wassail- Wassail, wassail all over the town Our bread it is white and our ale it is brown Our bowl it is made of the white maple tree With the wassailing bowl, we'll drink to thee So here's to the Dwarves and to their rosy cheeks Pray the Gods send our master a good piece of beef And a good piece of beef that may we all see With the wassailing bowl, we'll drink to thee And here's to the Orcs and their unflinching eyes Pray the Gods send our master a good Winter Veil pie A good Winter Veil pie that may we all see With the wassailing bowl, we'll drink to thee So here's to the Taurens and to their broad horns May the Gods send our master a good crop of corn And a good crop of corn that may we all see With the wassailing bowl, we'll drink to thee And here's to the Elves and to her long ears Pray the Gods send our master a happy New Year And a happy New Year as e'er they did see With the wassailing bowl, we'll drink to thee And here's to the Draenei and to their long tails Pray the Gods send our master he never may fail A bowl of strong beer! I pray you draw near And our jolly wassail it's then you shall hear Come barkeep, come fill us a bowl of the best Then we hope that your soul in the heavena may rest But if you do draw us a bowl of the small Then down shall go barkeep, bowl and all Then here's to the maid in the lily white smock Who tripped to the door and slipped back the lock Who tripped to the door and pulled back the pin For to let these jolly wassailers in. Wassail, wassail all over the town Our bread it is white and our ale it is brown Our bowl it is made of the white maple tree With the wassailing bowl, we'll drink to thee http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfncJavzoB8 |

One the required minimal changes, although I took out the names, so then I felt it was a song that could apply to any race. Hope you enjoy, as this is one of my favourite songs. A heart-wrenching ballad/sea shanty. Enjoy :)
-Pleasant and Delightful- It was pleasant and delightful one midsummer's morn When the fields and the meadows were covered with corn And the blackbirds and thrushes sang on every green spray And the larks they sang melodious at the dawning of the day And the larks they sang melodious (3x) at the dawning of the day A soldier and his true love were a'walking one day Said the soldier to his truelove I am bound far away I am bound for the frontlines where the loud cannons roar I must go and leave you my love, you're the girl that I adore I must go and leave you my love (x3), you're the girl that I adore Then the ring from her finger she instantly drew Saying, Take this my dear soldier and my heart will go too And as he stood embracing her tears from her eyes fell Saying, May I go along with you, oh no, my love, farewell Saying, May I go along with you (x3), oh no, my love, farewell So it's farewell my sweetheart, I can no longer stay For the topsail is hoisted and the anchor is weighed And my ship she lies waiting for the next flowing tide And if ever I return again, I will make you my bride And if ever I return again (x3), I will make you my bride http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HcVJq7hs5s |

Here's a song about a farmer's wife who's pregnancy's so far along she can't bend down to shear their sheep any more.
The Shearing's Not For You It was in the month of May, my bonny lassie O It was in the month of May, my bonny lassie O It was in the month of May When the flowers they were gay And the lambs did sport and play, my bonnie lassie O. (Chorus) O the shearing's not for you, my bonnie lassie O No the shearing's not for you, my bonnie lassie O The shearing's not for you For your back it winna bow And your belly's rolling fu', my bonnie lassie O. Don't you mind on yonder hill, my bonnie laddie O Don't you mind on yonder hill, my bonnie laddie O Don't you mind on yonder hill When you swore you would me kill If you did not get your will, my bonnie lassie O. (repeat chorus) Don't you mind the banks of Ayr, my bonnie laddie O Don't you mind the banks of Ayr, my bonnie laddie O Don't you mind the banks of Ayr When you drew me in your snare And you left me in dispair, my bonnie laddie O. (repeat chorus) Tis you may kill me dead, my bonnie laddie O Tis you may kill me dead, my bonnie laddie O Tis I'll not kill you dead Nor make your body bleed Nor marry you with speed, my bonnie lassie O. (repeat chorus) The fifes do sweetly play, my bonnie lassie O The fifes do sweetly play, my bonnie lassie O The fifes do sweetly play And the troops do march away And it's here I will stay, my bonnie lassie O. (repeat chorus) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF90K2RjFSk |
