With the onset of Valentine’s Day, thoughts of romance and companionship plague the air like a masterfully-designed virus. Not even the realm of my dark masters is safe, for Azeroth is currently teeming with positive emotions due to the “Love Is In The Air” festivities.
To further my understanding of these alien thought processes, I request your favorite canonical pairing in the Warcraft universe and why you believe this pairing works. These pairings do not need to be of the flushed quadrant; your favorite examples of companionship, friendship, or “bromance” are also needed. Should you provide this information, you are then entitled to also include your most desired pairing, but only if you also provide adequate reasoning for this union. In order to ensure proper formatting, below is an example: Favorite Pairing: |

Favourite Pairing: Sylvanas Windrunner and Nathanos Marris.
Reasoning: Mostly because of what we aren't told. It's clear as day that the Dark Lady had a fling with her most conspicuously valued pupil, though we only piece the hints together through various (long gone) quests and off-shoot remarks by their former Farstrider comrades. It's an enigma, and evidently one of Quel'Thalas' better kept secrets. Desired Pairing: Garrosh Hellscream and Warlord Zaela. Reasoning: Because the Hellscream legacy needs to be continued. I know conquering the world can be a time consuming venture, but Garrosh needs to free up his schedule and take the Dragonmaw battlemaiden out for dinner sometime. It would be an interesting (and much darker) pairing that would complement and contrast Thrall and Aggra's relatively harmonious relationship. |

Favorite pairing: Tyrande and Malfurion
Reasoning: They're the ultimate couple, It's obious they have a bond never seen before. To stand strong together through everything that has happend to them and the world is amazing :) <3 Desired Pairing: Velen / A Draenei woman Reasoning: Velen is old and great but he has never had a happy moment in the last few years, I want him to have a 'Happy Ending' |

Favorite Pairing/companionship: Gidwin Goldbraids and Tarenar Sunstrike
Reasoning: The way how they both work together is just true friendship, and was I terrified when I heard Gidwin got kidnapped and was going to be turned into a Death Knight. Truly great friends, and sure was fun to Quest with them. Desired Pairing: Before the Third War, Kael'thas and Jaina, it might not have been acceptable in the High Elf society but Kael sure had his eyes upon Jaina, even if it might had just been a crush. (Hope I did this right, Engrish not first language so tried my best to understand this) |

Favourite (canon) pairing: Malfurion/Tyrande WC3 style.
Reason: You knew they cared for each other, despite spending so long apart. But they didn't let each other get away with anything- If Tyrande was hardened compared to their last meeting, then Malfurion said it. If Tyrande wanted to release Illidan, Malfurion brought her up on it. If Malfurion stayed away from society for too long, Tyrande brought him up on it. And when Maiev lied about Tyrande's death, you saw Malfurion change- first finally willing to kill Illidan because of it, and then strong anger onto Maiev. It worked beautifully. It's partly why it's so sad to Tyrande just so lovey and emotional to him now, and Malfurion so cold- not only did it make the characters worse, but it made the relationship so much worse, Tyrande seemingly clinging on to somebody so emotionless. Desired Pairing: Maiev/Naisha Reason: Well, it had to be slash didn't it? But more seriously, perhaps the one biggest gap in Maiev's character, and the one that means that she gets considered more harshly than perhaps fair, is positive, caring emotion. We just don't see much of it. Having a lover would certainly give that level of roundedness, and certainly we already know that the two were rather close. Furthermore, In WC3 post tomb of Sargeras she kinda goes a bit crazy on the vengeance thing. As it stands most people don't even seem to remember that she considered her watchers family, so it just makes her seem unhinged and just angry for the sake of it. However, if it were known that she lost a lover, then it would certainly go some way to make her response feel more justified, and make her fall more tragic, and more noticably so. Also, considering that people are wanting to make a call back to WC3 Night elf themes, you would somewhat expect to see that, in a mainly gender segregated army with no taboos, that there would be some level of romantic love between soldiers of the same gender (hell, sometimes even encouraged!). It would certainly hark back to that (though it shouldn't be an example. You just know how many people would latch on the "Teh G@y is a choice!" thing) |

the flushed quadrant; Do naaru have a complicated reproductive cycle best not examined in much detail? I hope it doesn't involve buckets. Favorite Pairing: Renault Mograine/Sally Whitemane |
It's an enigma, and evidently one of Quel'Thalas' better kept secrets. this is a nice one and would be cool to see more of. desired pairing hmmm, Illidan stormrage and Maiev in a "really wierd Illidan came back to life and they both so insane they cannot exist without each other without feeling they have no purpose kind of way" dont hurt me /cower |

Why would I hurt you when I can stand conspicuously in the distance, leaving you unable to turn your back for fear of retribution for the rest of your life? |

Favourite pairing: Tyrande/Malfurion
Reason: Pretty much what others have said. Desired pairing: Tyrande/Illidan Reason: Everyone loves a bit of drama where two brothers fight over the same girl. |
Favourite pairing/ companionship: Arthas and Jaina.
Reason: I can't quite pin why I liked this pairing. I enjoyed the dialogue and the missions they shared together in WCIII thats for sure. I think I liked them because they were so different yet they seemed to compliment each other and what happened to them both is a sad story. Desired Pairing: Baine Bloodhoof and Thrall. Reason: For lols. |

Favorite Pairing Malfurion & Tyrande
Don't know, just liked the Connection they had in WC3 Desired Pairing: Garrosh Hellscream & Aggra Garrosh would murder her. Off Topic: It's cool to see a Blue on the Story forums, I get the feeling our opinions are being heard. |
Favorite Pairing: Arthas and Terenas.
Reasoning: Because it could have been a beautiful father-son relationship, but it wasn't, and that was even more beautiful. Desired Pairing: Illidan and Maiev. Reasoning: Because at the end of the day, they just belong together. Put them back together!!! |
Favourite Painting: Of Blood and Honour (Tirion and Eltrigg)
Reasoning: Its when Tirion was an Exile (or near that) its well done and the two have a bizzare and interesting Chemistry about them. it is cool Desired Painting:Jaina Proudmoore / Magister Romnath Reasoning: Two character who have this appeal that is unexplained and both are incredibly powerful mages .....Good potential Alternatives Favourite Painting: Renault / Whitemane Reasoning: There is a genuine majesty and holiness in it. its holy inits own respects. Desired Painting: Aiden Perenolde / Beve Perenolde Reasoning: Alteraceans, Family, unexplored characters make for a very free palet. get some looks at what people from alterac look like. Alterac.....need i say more |
Desired Pairing: Illidan and Maiev. No.....no....no......no.....no....no.....unless illidan kills her and drops a single tear......make it incredibly tragic......then yes....but otherwise.....no.....no....no.....no...no Illlidan do not fall in damned love with Maiev or visa versa unless illidan hates your guts then thats fine |
Favorite Pairing: Illidan Stormrage and Kael'thas Sunstrider
Reasoning: They were both exceptionally well received lore characters and they spawned some of the more interesting lore present in the setting, as far as I'm concerned. I only hope we see more fearsome, morally grey - but not necessarily evil - elves similar to how we saw them portrayed in the Illidari and Sunfury. Desired Pairing: A well done same gender relationship that isn't fueled by negative media stereotypes. Reasoning: Why not? Sexuality may not play a major theme in the game itself, but it's not as if anything explicit needs to be shown. There's no shortage of rumours and theories circling about the internet regarding the likes of Asric and Jadaar, so why not take it a step further and have them state outright that they're a couple? |
Desired Pairing: Illidan and Maiev. Who said anything about falling in love? :P |
Favorite Couple: Anren Shadowseeker & Tholo Whitehoof.
Reason: Oh, come on! They're a couple. Well, I like them because instead of homosexual stereotypes, they're defined by their overly sweet, rainbows and butterfly-spawning relationship. All while claiming to just be best friends. They're fooling no one, and I find the attempt a bit cute, even if the sweetness assaults me and physically hurts me from time to time. Desired Pair: Lorna Crowley and Ivar Bloodfang. Reason: This is not meant as a relationship, it's a alliance of sorts. Gilneas needs every ally it can get to survive, and right, there's a quite large worgen pack right on their doorstep to take advantage of. This was ruined by Darius Crowley when he left them and retreated into Gilneas in return for keeping Lorna alive. I would love to see Lorna go against this decision then try to regain the trust of the Bloodfang herself. And I would love to see a bit more of Ivar, Forsaken characters see more of him than worgen themselves do. |

Favorite Pairing: Lor'themar and Halduron, bromance style!
After having read "In the Shadow of the Sun", they just came off as having this - in spite of everything else - laid back and understanding thing going on. They really understood what trials their people (and they themselves) were suffering, and yet they made the time to get a drink and a chat about the old days. Desired Pairing: Garrosh Hellscream & ... that female Dragonmaw orc who seems to admire him, when the Horde takes over the Dragonmaw port. Garrosh would have "an old ball and chain", which I think would do wonders for his temper.. or wage even more bloody war on the Alliance than before. Regardless - fun ensues! Edit: Squee, Blue activity on the Story Forum! |
Favourite pairing: Thrall and Aggra!
Reasoning: Even the world-shaman needs alittle love :D And soon enough a little baby thrall will be running about! ♥ Desired Pairing: Tirion and Sylvanas.. Reasoning: How weird and cool would this be.... ♥ Ellie ♥ |

Favourite Pairing: Princess Moira Bronzebeard and Emperor Dagran Thaurissan
Reasoning: It's a story about impossible love, a love that was so unthinkable that everyone thought it was due to mind control. It also made us players look as complete douche bags , as we killed Moira's husband without giving any thought to what was really taking place between them. Desired Pairing: Anything that involves major characters that seem to be on equal ground. Reasoning: Seriously, stop making female characters as rewards for big manly men. If you can't make a relationship on equal grounds at least make one where the female is dominant just to balance it out. |
