Ironman server

Would it be possible to create a server where the Ironman rules are applied?
I'm really interested in this game, however I feel that making rules for yourself is a bit odd. Plus it would give great recognition to those players who achieved 85 on that server, and giving the hardcore players their own little community. Keeping track of the things you may not do could be hard, and perhaps consuming an elixir by mistake would cause instant death for your character. That would be lame. Having a world that drops no green items, no talent specialization at level 10, no guild perks and of course most important some form of character deletion upon death would be a f*cking dream. Somehow these ideas bring back some nostalgic feelings about vanilla. |

We have asked for lots of strange servers. Sadly none to this day have been added irrespective of the question. To be honest while the following is large I doubt that there are really enough people who would want to do this challenge to warrant making a server reserved for it.
Unless they made it both US and EU. Maybe then it would have the people you need. |

Lots of people are using the server earthen ring for this challenge, but it's still pretty small minority. Imo, there's not nearly enough people involved to make it worthwhile. I think many more people would want a twink 60/70 server, and we have heard that is not going to happen due to the complexities of it, so it seems pretty unlikely.
Yes, the rules are self imposed, they're a good way to revive the early leveling process for people who've been through it several times imo. |

Could you imagine the level of QQ on that server.
Ding level 10! Ding level 20! *death* /2 OMG RAAAGGEEEE!!!!!! |

I don't support this idea... only a few would participate and to get a real server running requires a lot more players.
I do however support for there to be an "Ironman Mode" checkbox when you make your character that prevents you from equipping green items or above, and forces you to delete that character when you die. As well as all the other rules it would apply and enforce such as other players wont be able to buff or heal you. |

Why not just get them to add a 'hardcore' tickbox during character creation, like in Diablo?
This prevents the need for additional hardware, enforces the rules on current live servers and is functionality that could be added in a patch. |

I don't support this idea... only a few would participate and to get a real server running requires a lot more players. A bit like in D2, where you could check the "Hardcore" box, Die->Never revive. I totally agree with you in that part, making a checkbox for Hardcore/Ironman mode would be so cool, and it would prevent any "cheating" for those who tries to overcome the Ironman challenge. I know that "cheating" only comes back and bite yourself in the butt, but I do think that some people are missreading the rules and/or equipping greenies/blue by mistake, (maybe out of habbit), but that would still be cheating, (and non-trackable). - Regarding the Ironman server suggestion, I personally think it would be a bad idea. Maybe it wouldn't be a problem at the start, except maybe the lack of players on the server. But if someone, one day, would be able to complete the challenge and ding 85, and then choosing to go farm lowbies, (or the runner-up for realm first 85), he would be able to spoil the fun for everyone else on that server. |

I was working a while back on an Ironman tracker website - i.e. you give your char name and realm, and it tracks your progress (and invalidates progress if rules were broken).
Put it on the back burner due to too much work, but if people want it live, I can patch it up quickly and throw it live. |

Why not just pick a low pop server pve or rp and host it there?
Would help out low pop servers and give that server some fame. with the added feature of being pve lowers the risk of death. |

I support the idea, however the 'not dying' bit is out of the question ridiculous. You could be 1 xp from 85, get DC'd and mullered by a wondering mob. Then you would have to do 84 more levels without dying again, dc'ng during a fight etc etc...
If anyone makes it to 85 with this I will personally pay for a months subscription |

I am much more for the idea of an "Ironman tickbox" option in character creation instead of making a single server for it, not only mainlining a server takes lots of resources but also I doubt that there is enough players that would actually try this challenge.
If I remember well Diablo II also did not had "Hardcore" (similar to ironman, you die one, delete character) option at start but over the time it got in one of future patches... I think WoW got time that it gets his "Ironman" tickbox |

As (very) successful as this challenge has proved to be ( I have been keeping updated!), creating a server for a specific purpose such as this creates many technical issues that sadly would make it rather difficult to achieve and maintain. The same problems would exist as would servers for classic/tbc expansion servers for example.

I support this idea very much, I don't understand why blizz won't make these kind of interesting servers, would be very fun and increase wow quality and ways of gaming! :)
Sure their is some technical issues with all of this, BUT it's not impossible for blizz to solve, they can if they want, else they should hire new programmers! ;) Sidenote: If breaking any rules, you should automatically get logged out and character removed! I don't support this idea... only a few would participate and to get a real server running requires a lot more players. OR this ^ Else it will be IMPOSSIBLE to make this.. I will personally find all of you that tries this out, and buff you! So you have to start over again! mohahaha ;D |
