The Dark Lady and the Valkyr

WARNING! Spoiler alert! If you havent read Edge of Night, or completed the Gilneas quest chain (Horde), do NOT read on!
I have discovered something interesting. According to the leader short story about Sylvanas, Edge of Night, Sylvanas comes back to life via the sacrifice of Annhylde, leaving eight Valkyr to Sylvanas. Later on during the Gilneas quest chain, at the moment where Lord Godfrey shots the Dark Lady in the back killing her, High Warlord Cromush orders Agatha, Arthura and Daschla to resurrect her. This is the odd part. Why does Sylvanas' resurrection require three Valkyr when it only required one before? Should'nt only one be enough bring her back? Giving this some thought, I have come up with one theory: Annhylde was far stronger then her sisters and therefore was sufficent to resurrect her. Also perhaps the magic of the Saronite stones on which the Dark Lady landed had a part to play but I'm not certain... What do you think? |

While eight were bound to Sylvanas you can still see lesser val'kyr in Andorhal etc It depends on the Val'kyr some like Annhylde are powerful others aren't it, the three in question were not as powerful. ♥ Ellie ♥ |

The stance at BlizzCon was that the number of val'kyr required differed based on their power. I would have preferred it if each successive death took more effort.

My question is why didn't the Val'kyr res Arthas? Disloyal fools!

She also lost another "sister" in Andorhal (above those lesser ones) which means she could only be ressurected by three more one more time. Assuming that's the rule and there's not one more even more powerful one. I can't make much sense of it though.

It seems as the power of a Valkyr decides her ability to resurrect. Perhaps it is that way but that would mean that the valkyr are not as strong as we might think. However, the fact remains: A Valkyr of great power can resurrect Sylvanas but a lesser one cant.
Doesnt make much sense since it means that a lesser Valkyr cannot on her own ress Sylvanas which makes her useless should the Dark Lady fall.
I agree, that would make it far more interesting. Sylvanas would have to be more careful and more thoughtful, which leads to tasty surprises and secrets.... |
So would I, but it doesn't actually make a difference, unless we are to believe that TWO of them are really, really powerful. Either one can res her - which leaves 2, and therefore not enough to res her again. or three can res her, leaving none. Which would be nice, because that stupid Godmode needs to go away from the Forsaken faction. |

It'd be nice if she actually looked like she belonged to the undead. I know I've brought it up before, but it's very hard to take Sylvanas seriously when she's ranting about the torment of being one of the living dead...when she's designed to be alluring. Not that I find her particularly attractive, mind you - I just cringe at some of the official art depicting her as if she were a gothic model and not a putrid corpse animated by a banshee.
I'd be able to handle the questionable val'kyr 'I-WIN' button much more readily if there was an actual drawback to it. |

To be honest, I've been thinking the same way. I mean, she looks undead in the skin but her Blood Elf model kinda kills the effect. But on the other hand, an Undead racial leader that looks like the basic Undead female model just with unattainable gear that looks epic would not make her special, hence she would be payed far less attention by us. We just shrug and "ehhh, whatever". If we are to feel loyalty to our racial leader, their looks must stand out. We must be able to identify them whenever we see them. Getting of topic, I know.
What Godmode? If you mean that the Forsaken has survived for a very long time, it is because they have a powerful leader that does not falter and aslo the Undead are very powerful and cunning. I dont feel that they are in a "Godmode". |

I'm sorry, but I can't take the short stories seriously, not after I learned that Blizzard didn't make them, not even the books. There is so much wrong lore in them. I even tidied the post up a bit xD |

I know you are. What else to expect from a race that's been lazying around for 10.000 years? xD
|
|

I already did!
Maybe it's not a bad thing though... had you been active, you'd probably have world domination in less than 4.000 years. 7.000 years if you blew up the world again ^_^ |

Why would they want to ress Arthas? They got tired of him and didn't want to sacrifice themselves, because they only want freedom and I think Lady Sylvanas has a lot more to offer than Arthas without frostmourne or the Scourge :p But perhaps you didn't want anyone to answer your question, just wasn't able to resist :p |

I already did! Hihi, agree! :p |

Ahum... Blew up AND SAVED! She got a point you know, atleast they don't flee every time :p |
