New Mists of Pandaria talents, thoughts?
|
|
Just took a look at them, and noticed they've revamped the top tier (moving old Level 90 abilities to 75 and adding all new ones to level 90) and added an interesting new level 85 ability:
Boundless Conviction (Passive) You may store an additional 2 Holy Power beyond the maximum of 3. No ability ever consumes more than 3 Holy Power. You can see the new talents here: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/game/mists-of-pandaria/feature/talent-calculator#b! What are your thoughts? |

Holy Power becomes even less relevant Many of the poor mechanics of Cataclysms model are being retained. Have to think about the new talents. EJL |

I find it interesting, mostly the fact that you can store five holy power, rather than three. It's pretty common for me to have three and barely anything to do with it. (Other than massively over-heal with WoG.)
Not sure about any of the end tier abilities, perhaps that's because I'm not the biggest fan of 'more' buttons to press. Most of them seem useful enough, but nothing new is done by them. Cleanse is back to removing all poisons and diseases, base-line. Awesome! Only having any real trouble deciding what to pick in tier three and six. :| |

The most interesting thing I noticed was the 400% mana increase for Holy Paladins. I think this is more to compensate for the fact that intellect will no longer yield any kind of mana increase. |
The most interesting thing I noticed was the 400% mana increase for Holy Paladins. I thought of that. But why are holy paladins the only ones getting a talent like that? I can get why classes like priests, mages and warlocks would get a big base mana pool, but Shamans and Druids should be the same as us (melee spec available). If their base mana pool is also 'big' (thus not needing a 400% talent in their caster/healer specs) why isn't ours? |

Druids have a similar talent in Balance and Restoration, Shaman's are currently work in progress and their talent trees haven't really being updated as stated in the post by Blizzard. ;-) |

A lot of the new talents require Holy Power, so the addition of Boundless Conviction makes sense.
However it really only benefits pvp. In PvE with 5 Holy power stored given the choice between hitting TV and then CS and TV again or use some utility you will be told by pretty much every theorycrafter to TV again. This makes the 5 Holy Power change pretty much redundant for PvE because in PvE we are very unlikely to ever be in a situation where you have 5 Holy Power stored up, because if you have it means you didn't TV at 3 HP for some reason. In PvE if you are going to die and you decide perhaps to use Sacred Shield, well you need to have 3 HP, so either you do or you don't, when you hit 3HP you use it and your next 3HP will be a TV again anyway...if you are out of danger. I don't really see the benefit of 5 HP for PvE unless we have an out of combat HP generator like Holy Shock or something. In fact it doesn't have much benefit for pvp either unless there is an out of combat generator. |

I dont see why you think we wouldnt exceed 3hopo in PvE.
We'll use CS/judge/exorcism mainly and surely we'll have gaps between them. Thats when you'll hit TV. I mean when you get a DP proc now you dont hit TV right away do you? You hit CS then you use DP proc. This will make rotation much more flexible. Also it'll help when we have to move around. Judgement and exorcism gives HoPo. We'll be using those skills on the move but we can use TV when we're not in melee. For PvP its even a better but i wont get much into it. ON THE NEW TALENTS lvl 60 tier needs more work ids say. Hand of Purify seems really not worth it. Maybe dots will play a bigger role in MoP i dont know but less dmg taken for 2 ticks wont cut it imo. Damage reduction cooldowns are used against burst damage. Dots arent burst, they're for pressure. And a 6sec reduce dot dmg wont take the pressure off. Unbreakable Spirit reduces the cooldown of our divine shield/protection and loh. LoH cant be used in arena. Divine Protection has 1min cd. 3% of it is 1.8 sec. Doesnt seem enough. Divine shield is the only skill makes this talent worth imo. I can see its cd being reduced to 3min if we dont get CCed too much. I found Clemency a bit boring but definetly usefull. We can use sacrifice and protection a lot more. |

A lot of ppl look at useless tier abilities (like hand of purify) while not seein that:
Divine Protection now reduces magical damage taken by 40% for 10 seconds but no longer reduces physical damage. Rebuke now has a 15 second cooldown, up from 10. Exorcism now has a 20 sec cooldown. Autoattacks no longer have a 20% chance to activate Exorcism. cleanse = 8s cd |
|
I think being able to store up to 5 Holy Power is huge buff because it makes us more flexible. I also like the Tier 45 which presents 3 interesting ways of support.
The new 'Hand' spell I was dreaming of seems cool at first glance. Hand of Purity provides 70% DoT damage reduction for 6 seconds if I understood it correctly. Excellent against Affliction Warlocks, Feral Druids and Shadow Priests but not so useful against others. Tier 90 looks really boring to me, we would need some number values to estimate how strong the abilities are but generally it's just extra damage or extra (AoE healing). No utility whatsoever. I'm still waiting for a charge ability for Ret and perhaps Prot Paladins. Blinding Light (the new ability for Paladins in MoP) still hasn't been changed and is not useful for Paladins of all specs. For instance PvE Paladins have minimal use for it for obvious reasons. Please change this ability :<! |

Overall I like the direction we're headed in, I still have a few issues, but fingers crossed they'll be resolved :S
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/game/mists-of-pandaria/feature/talent-calculator#b!211122 That's what I'll be rocking on my PvE Tankadin, come MoP Tier 1 PoJ: 10% speed at all times is nice for tanking, add in 10% bonus for every HP and we're golden Tier 2 Rep: CC, why WOULDN'T I want it? Tier 3 Eternal Flame: a very nice HoT, 7212 every 3 seconds for 30 second? that's 72120 healing, nomnom. Tier 4 Unbreakable Spirit: Shorted CD for Lay On Hands, for this alone I'd take it throw in the other spells and I can see this Talent being changed tbh :P Tier 5 DP: had a bit of trouble choosing DP or HA, went with DP because I figure in PvE the consistancy will be worth more than LoLoLoLoL burst Tier 6 Execution Sentance: Stop! Hammer Time! As I said overall I think we're looking decent, we've lost Holy Wrath (oh no... I'm so upset....) but gained 100% uptime on conc again, fair trade I say :p Add in Seal of Righteousness being AoE now and our AoE threat should be solid. The longer CD on CS/HoTR is offset by judge on a 6sec CD giving us HP. WoG being off the GCD is god tier, and tbh combine with the 5hp system now I can see myself just macroing it in to everything, so I get 5HP, cast... whatever, and get a 3hp something, and a 2hp WoG. LLOOVVEE the new ShoR, still does nice high damage, but now it also gives us 100% block on the next attack, and 25% block value for 6 seconds, nomnomnom. Sadly this brings me to the one thing that I can see being very very very bad.... Our Mastery is still the same boring, badly done, WAY too easily cappable one we have now... add in the autoblock on ShoR and we've got a very bad situation.... they need to lower our mastery to 1.5% chance per point, like Warriors, and then give us a secondary effect, maybe something like 0.5% block VALUE per point. |
*Hugs Gallahad* It's ok....*sniff* We get a hammer that pulsates damage to enemies and heals people. (Light's Hammer) we will....learn to live without holy wrath *cries in the corner* |
i LOL'd xD Blizzard has got Ret on the right track with MoP! My pala will be flying to 90 first out of all my chars. |
yes.. we'll.. learn to live, without the worst move since Sentry Totem :p sadly I'll not be taking Pulsing Hammer, I'm taking dropping hammer, seems cooler :p |

HW is actually a fairly decent move. It provides flavor to the class and the AoE stun component provided a modicum of survivability in some situations. Its situational moves like this that I feel help define the skillfulness of a paladin and can even provide the basis for those little tricks and tools everyone likes to use. There is literally nothing wrong with it...except Blizzards ham fisted decision to actually make it a core part of the DPS rotation. If you get over that ridiculous decision, and the counterpart of having an AoE move as a core part of the single target rotation after the drubbing the class got in LK for not having different AoE and ST rotations, you may find you'll miss HW. And all the other moves which give the class flavor and uniqueness, many of which are also going or have been removed. True, one can argue how useful HW was in an XPac where there were few undead/demon encounters and wonder how often would I have been used.....but situational moves are like that. As it is, I've haved some time to examine the new skill list. I can say its a little bit improved over the previous incarnation. Boundless Convction looks decent...but also provides a mechanic that mitigates mistakes. Having AW and GAnK on the same 3 min CD simply destroys any need to have separate CDs. Returning Seal of Command to the game and having it replaced after a few hours seems worthless. HP generation is sped up but the entire mechanic is made much more mindless. Poor mechanics such as SoB are being kept, flavour abilities are being removed and the talents still seem moderately mediocre....albeit better than they were. EJL |
