Blizzard Artwork on Fansites?

Hi everyone,
I'm currently developing a web application for my guild, and I was wondering what Blizzard's stance is regarding usage of their artwork in other sites. I know of the fansite kit, but one has not been released for Cataclysm/MoP. I'm mainly just interested in using these images as background templates, and of course I'll credit where due. I've searched on the forums, on the US forums, and on Google, but couldn't find any official word. I'd rather not have to rely on my own... "artistic talent"... so any advice on the matter would be helpful. Thanks :) |

I made a fansite using artworks from Blizzard and graphics from the game ( http://www.warcraftpeople.com ). This doesn't seem to bother the Blizzard team as they often visit the website and sometimes feature it in the blog.
It's not a problem to use Blizzard's content since it remains a non-profit fansite. |
Unfortunately too many are already creating Blizz fan art and selling it as commissioned art or as prints for real money - Which means, they make up money on their characters and stories. I somehow feel it should be informed to people, since a lot I've spoken with, didn't know it wasn't allowed, since it was themselves creating the art work - but the fact is, they don't have copyright, then it doesn't matter whether you create it yourself, as long as the design and story is Blizzards. |
