A hundred do's and don'ts of RP!
So while in the process of being bored and alone (and dead, if you count how I am incharacter), my mind strayed to making a fun (but helpful!) thread on the forums. The rules are these;
- One do, one don't, of roleplay. Doesn't really matter which! - It can't have been said before, nor can it specify a person, group of people, community or guild in the "Don't"- part. However, promoting a person for being a stellar roleplayer is just fine! - No naming, shaming, flaming, insults, swearing, or any NEGATIVE comments. You may -not- say "Don't join *Name of guild* because they're bads" and so on. If you do, I'll report the post, and ask a GM to remove it if necessary. Keep it nice! - Say something remotely useful. "Don't go to Goldshire cuz its erp" is not useful. "Take a friend and begin roleplaying as the innkeepers of Goldshire, it needs some serious activity!" is a good one, however! I'm interested in seeing what kind of stuff you'll come up with. :3 |

Don't: Consider yourself an excellent roleplayer, it's the first step to becoming the worst.
Do: Learn to join the dance, instead of standing on the side trying not to belong to the party. Go with the flow, roleplay your own character, everywhere, at every time, in every situation presented before you. |
Do: Get creative! Waiting for things to be handed to you by GMs and the like will just involve a lot of waiting. I bet they'd thank you if you took the initiative and created something!
Don't: Build your character on a gimmick, particularly one that cuts close to the Lore's edge. We're all interesting, individual people; and none of us are dragons, princesses from some lost tribe or the illegitimate child of some king. Those of us with less than pleasant pasts are more than just that - make your character out of a life, not an MRP title. |
Do: Learn your Lore, even though it can be very hard at times to even find that aforementioned lore, basics should still be known. No one cares if you don't know who the Leader of Silvermoon is, but knowing that DK's don't need to eat, sleep or drink to be functional is kind of mandatory if
you are RPing one or that the war in Northrend ended years a go. Don't: Don't be afraid to ask questions from others. If you see someone doing something what you think is cool or nice or just well RP'd /w them. I do not believe they really mind as long as you are polite and humane and you both might learn something from the encounter. It can also provide you with some interesting RP. |
Do: Spend time developing your character. Make them as real and colourful as possible (not literally).
Don't: TAKE IT TOO SERIOUSLY. |
Do play a snowflake.
Dont play a snowflake. |
Do; remember that IC actions should have IC consequences for your character and others around you.
Don't; get upset if your character is hurt, contact the one hurting your character to settle what is okey and not. |
Do: Have fun and be fun!
Don't: Have fun on the expense of others! |
Do: Dress up your character like tropical beach barbie
Don't: Add cellphones and cars! |
Do: Use correct emotes such as "/e scoops up a piece of pie and munches it down."
Don't: Use incorrect emotes such as "/e would scoop up a piece of pie and munch it down." Would implies you would do it, but haven't done so (yet). |
Do: Use chakra to bolster visual immersion during the heat of battle, or for channelling a powerful spell.
Don’t: Walk around the city with it on to give yourself a “Holy aura” and just end up looking like a loler flashlight. |
Do: Use chakra to bolster visual immersion during the heat of battle, or for channelling a powerful spell. Fixed. |
Do: Create an interesting and deep character with interesting views and a compelling mentality, even if that mentality compels people to see the world from a different and perhaps not entirely comfortable point of view.
Don't: Create a character and call it deep because it has any of the following traits: 1: It has a Half-blood heritage in any family tree other than Human/Elven. 2: It's an Erader. 3: It's got a futa. 4: It rides a dragon. 5: It 'IS' a dragon. 6: It's completely stolen from that Animé you like but you call it an homage. 7: It is under the age of 16. 8: It is a Draenei under the age of 100. 9: It is a Death Knight who just wants to be loved. 10: It's a Paladin named after a word that sounds latin. |
Do: Be polite, efficient and have a plan to kill everyone you me- Haha, but seriously. Be polite.
Don't: Roleplay your druid as a domestic cat. Please. |
Do : Every don't in this thread (ok, most ^^) Do: Expect that if you do not conform and make allowances for the points of view of the vast majority and the unwritten rules that are upheld so as to maintain a high quality of RP even if it does come at the expense of doing whatever the hell you like. Don't: Let that get you down because there are some places where druids can RP as domesticated cats, Draenei can RP as Erader and characters can have silly names like Ogg the Clever and Tim the Enchanter. |
