It's a cool thing this transmogrif-thing, we all think that. Though I would like to upgrade it a bit with my suggestion.
Instead of only letting it able to transform magical items, which gives for an example plate-wearers like paladins and warriors, a harder time finding some awesome looks, because the choices of items are slighter than cloth, leather and mail.
This is why I suggest letting white and gray items become transformable.
This should give like 200% extra items and looks to choose between. Also the plate choices will be greatly increased.
Also I think of all the shop sets in fx Stormwind, will finally be used.

Nothing wrong with it, running around in grey / white gear lookalikes could make you look likan Ironforge Guard for example, or a farmer with a pitchfork. Don't see anything wrong.

i think that is a great idea, there is so many very good made sets that i would like to wear in white and grey..
and now that we are at it.. for gods sake make hunters transform mail gear into leather gear look..
the hunter is able to wear leather so it is not like, he is not able to wear it.. and real hunters wears leather, but the best statgear is mail.

just my 2 cents :)

What we got is just fine,we have a huge selection of armor if you look properly.

Perhaps if you think current transmoggable stuff is to what you want your character to look like. But not everyones tastes are the same.

OT: I think they've dont it so things do not look "too silly". Although I get feeling that some transmog rules my change anyway, and may introduce other things available for transmog eventually.... hopefully in your case someday some white items.

However, i think they've restricted that duo to the system they've coded which can only handle a certain amount of data..
