So... did you ever bother with Archaeology?

I leveled it to max quite early and I love it. It really is fun uncovering all these little pieces of lore. I do not care about the rewards at all though so I did not see it as a grind, but rather as fun experience.

I recently leveled it on my hunter from 1 - 525 got raptor pet and mount, which alone made it worth it.
Got about 1k gold from selling what I found plus at least another 1-3k selling the key fragment thingamabobs. Took about 2-3 days grinding it for a few hours at a time. It's not that much of a grind really, has fairly cool rewards and can make you a bit of change! Worth it in my opinion. And the extra lore is awesome! |

Leveling it now is piece of cake. I leveled my archy 3-4 days into Cata where it took me almost a week of whole day flying around. They have re-pimped it few times now and made it so much easier.
I haven't done much of it now because when I did it on my main when Cata was released I grinded A LOT of fragments, as I was trying to get all the epics/rare items, I mean I did a whole 7 days every day whole day archology. I got most items, beside a few items from Outland and the mount from Tol vir. What piid me off most was when after I sold tons of gray fragments Blizz increased the value of them- I hate to think how many people grinded archy in the beginning of cata and why does Blizzard make players often loose out? I mean how come someone who leveled it later gets easier leveling+ decent gold for the fragments? Surely since there is datae in game where we can look up how many which fragments we have completed they should have posted the gold to characters that already did the profession? Same with Loremaster, did it in the beginning and when they changed it that u need to go all areas over again I was like no thanks. Wierd ways of Blizzard. |

Did it on my main pre-nerf. Made me mad >:l

Maxed it out pre-pre-nerf. Wasn't too much of a deal, because grinds don't really put me off. I also got some pets and a mount out of it, so I'm happy. Now I want to get the battle tank and sandstone drake recipe though, and all I keep getting are night elf dig sites (I've got all their projects, except of the trinket).
I wish there was a way to just skip all this night elf stuff! |

Haven't really tried it yet, but it sure looks like fun. I am saving that for later. ^^

Pre-nerf maxed it as well. Quite a grind but worth the funky rewards!
Still grinding for |

Professor eggs
/wave i quite enjoyed it, gives a break from the normal things you do, ie quests and such, also fills time between dungeon queues Only really starts to get a bit tedious if you focus on getting one thing and nothing else |

I am at lvl 265, and I startet when Cata came out.!
It is the most boring for me to do, and I find it really really hard to lvl up, so I am solving 1 at the time when I feel like it. Got the pet so far, but tbh I dont think the prof is worth it. I only lvl ach for the achivement in the end. |

I like the basic idea, have it maxed quite early in cata but now having to gather just a few pieces it makes terribly random. I wish there would be way to choose one faction to dig from or at least a buff wich raise the chance getting a special faction dig site.
I farm tolvir but i allmost never get a digsite. Its allways Nightelves were i allready have everything of "worth" so im digging gray items for weeks. Thats not fun at all. |

I'm pretty sure I gained almost 10 levels solely by archeology digging :)

I'm doing it from time to time (on different characters) and it seems nice so far.

I spend the first day when it got implemented maxing it,
then I spend a few days getting after that I spend some time getting a few achivements in the proff skill, Haven't touched it since.. |

Did it for the pet and mount - which are cool.
Then dropped it. It's too much of an obvious time-waster. The sites pop up at the other end of the map, there are only three finds per, and the 'surveying' operation is just leading you around on a string to make you dance. If it had some more interesting mechanic than a random number of 'string-jerks' before it finally relented and popped up the artefact, it might be interesting. As it is - it's just silly. (Notice how it always seems to point you towards some mob or other, that's going to aggro while you try to set up for another orientation?) |
