I am satarting a frost mage ad willbe dedicating him to PvP, i thought i would ask the experts for some advice as i know nothing about mages apart from a few basics.

My questions are:

1. What addons do you use

2. Any macros you use (1shots etc)

3. What are the best targets for a mage to focus on taking down

(all these questions are in reference to pvp, i have no intention of touching end game dungeons/raids)

(I use 3 of these for decursing my self, and two team mates quickly then mouseover for rbgs (But i change it to decuse shaman if in range for rbgs also)

3. There are a few targets you can prio, but you can kill pretty much everything, although i would try stay away from good enhancement shaman / dk / feral. Prio targets i would go for are.

Mage
Warrior
Ele Sham
Ret Pala
Warlock
Rogue
Holy Pala

Be wary of Rogues, Hunters and Enhancement shamans though.

They are mage killers if the user has an IQ over 5.



Remember that Mages lose a considerable amount of DPS if focused. Basically, you can't let the enemy fight back and need to destroy them asap.

Have someone distract/CC them and then hit them fast and hard, because you are not designed for prolounged fighting or wars of attrition :)


What sort of PvP do you envision? Rated BGs, Arena? Or just casual random?

I like that actually, never really thought of it.

SexyCooldown addon to watch your own cooldowns. Its a very high quality addon - never go pvp without it.

ClassTimers addon to watch debufs and CC you put on your target and focus.

To build self confidense look out for warriors - its the only class you can easymode (provided you know how to kite and have room for it). Warriors have been complaining for many years/expansions that Mages are OP.

Hunters can easymode Mages, stay away from them. Your loss rate to ferals and DKs will be very high too.

Rogues were 2-shotting mages a few expansions ago. Its no longer so. The loss of mages as their confidense booster are causing many old rogues to complain mages are OP. However sub-rogue and frost-mage abilities to a largo degree mirror each other - its largely down to skills who win.

why this, is this for when you want to spellsteal other hands from paladins or what? I dont get it

They cast Sacrifice on their partner, you accidently steal it while trying to get something else, (or just steal it to get a decent sheep off) then try and sheep the paladin. If their partner hits you, it'll break the sheep. Or it damages the other partner, can't remember which.

Either way from my understanding it breaks sheeps if you end up stealing it and taking damage yourself, I generally just right click it. It's basically just a buff you don't want anyone to have on them so cancelling it is ideal.

gave it a quick search, you appear to be right Tayen, it does break the sheep. I'll have to add that in aswell then
