Why LFR is 25man and not 10man?

If 10man was easier, LFR would be 10man. But, as 25man is easier they made LFR for 25 people instead.

Thanx.

Because in 10 man you'd unlikely get enough good players to carry trough the disasters LFR has been designed for.

if i recall correctly it was something about the queue. not sure if it would be the amount of tanks or healers required, which could cut down the waiting time for a 25 man group compared to a 10 man group

Because 2 tanks and 3 healers could not carry 5 dps if all did 20k and less.
If it was 1 tank they'd cut more mechanics and you still ran the risk of that tank dying ->wipe. If it was 2 healers 2 tanks and 6 dps you run the risk of one healer carrying the other or both being bad leading to a wipe.
Instead they found it neat to have 2 tanks, 3-4 healers, 7-12 dps and the rest sleeping in a corner waking up for the roll.

1- Shorter queues. A 10 man raid needs 2 tanks and a 25 man raid needs also 2 tanks. A 10 man LFR will create a tank shortage similar to the shortage we have in 5 man dungeons.

2- Buffs/Debuffs. A 25 man raid will likely have all different types of raid buffs and debuffs since it has more classes/specs.

3- Loots distribution. In a 10 man raid, there are more chances that an item drops that nobody needs. For example, it's more likely that a 10 man raid won't have a paladin and plate intellect item drops. It 25 man it's still possible to not have any paladins, but it's less likely.

4- 25 man PUGs has more chances to succeed because of being more forgiving. For example, a healer who dies pr disconnects in a 10 man raid means losing 33% of the healing power. In 25 man it's losing only 16% of healing power.

5- It's easier for 20 people to carry the weight of 5 bad players than it is for 8 people to carry the weight of 2 bad players.

yaa but in looking for raid you can still loose 33% of your healing if 1 healer dies

Not to mention that you require two tanks in both 10 and 25 man, and considering the low amount of tanks there already is there would be less groups for LFR.

It's not because one difficulty is "easier" than the other.

Looking for raid should have a 10 man raiding option

Takralus, Community Manager:
Having the LFR group size set at 25 allows for a more forgiving experience should errors be made by individual players — after all, we believe Raid Finder groups should be a fun way to experience raid content without feeling too punishing to new or inexperienced raiders.

25-man if more forgiving, whenever you visit the raid for the first time and you haven't watched any videos or strats you will be likely to die in a 10-man but in 25-man you just follow the rest as easy as that, Ow and everybody would have all the LFR gear already ;-)

Because it makes queue times shorter.

I totally understand why LFR is 25 man only.

However I think a 10 man mode of similar difficulty but only available for pre-mades would have been nice for social guilds.

That omission along with the utter disaster that was guild perks has lead to a massacre of the once rich and vibrant communities with large numbers of smaller social guilds that in the Naxx and ICC days used to put together ad-hoc 10 man raids consisting entirely of genuine friends as opposed to raiding guilds where people are basically hired guns and are recruited for what they can do rather than who they are. Both guild systems have merit but the former has been annihilated.

So now they are all gone. You just have a smaller number of huge and impersonal super guilds where most are there for the perks and you may as well have guild chat disabled.

Queues wouldnt really change much. If anything it would be faster for tanks (who already have by far the longest queues).

in 10man you have a higher chance to get completely clueless group whereas in 25m the chance of getting at least 1 competent healer and dps to carry everyone else is much higher.

yaaa but still if you make a 10man version of looking for raid 2 dps who can pull and keep 30k dps is enouf dps for the whole raid 1 healer who can heal is enouf and 1 tank sooo you need 4 pll :D
