[Gilnean RP] The Blackcoats

Who do you think you are kidding Miss Windrunner?
If you think we're on the run. We are the boys who will stop your little game. We are the boys who will make you think again. 'Cause who do you think you are kidding Miss Windrunner? If you think Gilneas is done. Mister Brown goes off to town at eight o' twenty one But he comes home each evening and he's ready with his gun. So who do you think you are kidding Miss Windrunner? If you think Gilneas is done. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- <The Blackcoats> is a brand new Gilneas based heavy RP-PvP guild. The Blackcoats represent a part of the Gilneas Liberation Front, the resistance movement led by Lord Darius Crowley that remained behind after the evacuation of the country in order to halt the continuing advance of the Forsaken in the north. The GLF or just 'Liberation Front' now fight a tug of war between Gilneas and Lordaeron following the bloody stalemate that began following the release of Lorna Crowley and Sylvanas Windrunner's (temporary) demise. The actual guild name as you may have guessed is a play on the historical image of the British Army's Redcoats which we considered quite fitting seeing as how Blizzard tries to liken Gilneas to a stereotypical fantasy England... with werewolves. This also has some grounding in-game since many Gilnean riflemen and rebels do indeed wear black coats. Although our focus is on Gilneas this does not mean that we will restrict ourselves to that one zone constantly. A change of scenery never hurt anybody and whilst we are not liable to jump continents every other week The Blackcoats are willing to aid the fight against the Horde (and other threats) where necessary, not being too keen on letting history repeats itself. In particular they seek to maintain strong ties with the Kaldorei, grateful for their assistance in the evacuation of Gilneas and for aiding them in controlling the Curse, however some may still point at them as being the cause of it in the first place. Another military guild? Bleh... The Blackcoats are more of a 'militia' than a professional army. Most Gilneans who were infected with the Curse are liable to have some form of crude fighting ability and Gilneas' standing army was mostly decimated by the civil war, curse and the Forsaken invasion after all. Whilst there is definitely a central theme of war due to our Gilneas focus most characters are far from professional soldiers. You will rarely see us trying to re-enact that scene from Full Metal Jacket. The decision to base the guild around the GLF was made in order to give us a central theme rather than a mish-mash of several dozen character concepts who struggle to find their place and members are encouraged to work on the more mundane aspects of the characters that can then be used to help create more social situations. Maybe they worked in a tavern? A blacksmith's apprentice? It would also seem strange to have people going about their daily lives as if they were living in Stormwind City seeing as how the civilians were evacuated for a reason. Don't expect to be stood on guard duty twenty-four seven waiting for a sexually confused skinhead to shout at you for an hour because you accidentally hit the W key. More grimdark northerners? Winter has come and gone! Gilneas is not a particularly nice place at this moment in time, the zone was deliberately designed to show the worst fighting of the Alliance-Horde War and for this reason people are not liable to be shooting rainbows out of their arses any time soon. Despite this theme of war and rain (a lot of rain) we do not aim to pretend we are living in Altdorf nor Winterfell. Many of our initial members and officers come from a server where grimdarkness has been taken to a frankly absurd level and are not keen on seeing that same mistake made here. Variety is the spice of life after all and Doctor Moppet will be sure to keep things awkward for a while yet. Which races and classes do you accept? The Black Coats are currently accepting Gilnean Worgen of all classes and Gilnean Humans of most classes with the exception of paladins and death knights. Yes, we are accepting death knights however recruitment of them will be done on a strictly case by case basis. Additionally we are also permitting a small number of night elf druids who work to help the Gilneans understand and control their affliction however this cases will also be especially screened. Do you have a uniform? There is no strict uniform to speak of however more practical outfits should do there best to match the Gilneas Tabard item. Darker (usually black and blue) colours and less fantastical armour (none of that Judgement bollocks) are preferred. In the Grimdarkness of Victorian England there are no golden gundan battlesuits. You're a Gilneas guild. Will you lay claim to any of it? Whilst appropriate locations and buildings may be 'lent' for use during a roleplay event or plot we do not intend to go around cordoning off sections the country for our members to use as houses nor enforce our word as law. There are enough problems with that around the zone without us adding to them. How do I join? In order to join your character must be (or above) level 25. Death Knights must be above level 70. I am afraid we are not interested in a legion of level 10 and 58 alts cluttering up the roster. Getting to Gilneas can also be an issue for characters under that level. If you wish to join then please seek out one of our members in-game who will direct you to a recruitment officer (the list is to come). Feel free to give us a poke in whispers just to check for a location since running around like a headless chicken isn't doing you any favours. We will go through an in-character and OOC interview as a screening progress before inviting you into the guild. Whilst a website will be set up in short order I am not a fan of applications simply because they are not an indication of how you roleplay once you are actually in-game. Anything else? The guild is still in its early stages so don't jump aboard expecting twenty or so active members on the moment that you join up. We are looking for dedicated and active individuals who are willing to give this new guild a chance rather than dismiss it because we're not riding around on lion mounts and see it thrive. Optimism is a wonderful thing. A decent amount of our starting number will be players returning to WoW and Argent Dawn. Whilst I have done my research into the state of guild affairs here I hope not to be stepping on any toes. This thread - as always - is a working in progress. Thank you for reading and try not to flame me too hard. A bag of cookies will be given to the first person who gets the reference in the song. |

The song is from Dad's army if I read it right.
Also bump for a nice idea. |

Hrm, I might have an alt that I can shove into your guild, if that's alright?
|
|
|
You might want to take another look at your Dad's army cover (Damn I love you for that!) because there seems to be a word missing in the last line.

This actually looks good. Just one thing.
Death Knights. I don't know the lore 143%, but I believe Worgen DKs are like, first generation Worgen or something, and come from Arugal himself, not from Gilneas. So yeah, might think about that. |

This actually looks good. Just one thing.Pyrewood and Ambermill did belong to Gilneas prio to the Kingdom sealed themselves off. When it sealed itself off both Pyrewood and Ambermill was taken by Lordaeron. And by lore those Worgen Death Knights are citizens of Pyrewood which in truth would make them Gilneans. |
This actually looks good. Just one thing. The Worgen Death Knights were citizens of Pyrewood (which along with Ambermill was retconned into being a part of Gilneas) that he had experimented on when he went batty. When the Lich King fancied raising him he also took those experiments with him to be raised as Death Knights. It's all fairly contrived and not the best writing but it is 'there'. |

Won't lie, saw this thread and instantly got a friend to SoR me so I could join.
It was the Dad's Army reference. In all seriousness, I've been looking for something to push me back into WoW for a good while now, and I think this might be it. If it's alright with OP, I'll poke him in-game sometime this evening once I've figured out the changes, etc. See you all again soon, AD. :) |
