I am the guildmaster of a 160 member guild with 3 weekly DS groups. We have only existed for a month before DS came out so we're quite new. Thus far, I had given every guildmember rights to edit their own guildnote so that they could put in their ilvl and spec there since it helps me quite a bit in remembering who is who. (I'm not great with names)

Recently I woke up, and saw somebody had found it funny to change every single members guild note to "I kill kids for crack". I have made a ticket about it to find out who did it but still.. How can I prevent this from happening? I do my best recruiting only people I trust but the truth is you can never know who'll get pissed off and do something like that.

Is there a way to make members only able to edit their own note? (not as far as I've seen). And could Blizzard perhaps introduce such an option to the game as I believe it would be a real help to guilds such as my own.

What do your guilds use your public and officer notes for? I would like to know, maybe I can learn something.

Nah you can't set it so everyone can only change their own note, its asked for a lot though, so I would imagine one day it will be possible.

Our officer notes are used by the EPGP add on that our raid team uses, then public notes if trial we write as example "pvp 12/4" so everyone knows the date the trial joined and what they are joining for. For alts we write the name of the persons name (mostly) and otherwise we just use notes for fun/insulting each other...

Its only officers can change notes in our guild (now & then a member gets promoted for additional bank access or something & quickly changes a bunch though!) we don't take them that seriously.

Definitely agree that it would be great to allow people to be able to edit their own notes without being able to edit others' - this is long overdue!

It would also be really useful if there was an indication of when the GMOTD was last edited, and (for those guilds that allow everyone/many people to edit it) by whom.

I have also seen this happen that some1 felt the need to use this tool to use abusive and profane language. I would warn this member not to do it again and if he/she continued I would remove him/her from the guild. I personally haven't minded any1 changing my note unless it is something offensive. Sadly there is no way to change this system atm. Maybe in MOP.

I think you would have to find a very sympathetic GM, even if they could tell you who did it.

The only way to prevent it happening is to not let players change 'their'(and by that it means everybodies) guild notes, and do it yourself, or the officer does it who invites them (permissions can be set for editing notes in the rank tabs).
Might not be what you want to hear, but it is the easiest way tbh.
*And it wouldnt seem to make much difference if you want them all to put in the same information anyways.
