Please will you turn your computer on so we can sort it out over the phone. ME: Where are you based? Me: Yes Indian Chap 2: Ok now what we need to do is connect our system to yours. Once you have had this done there will be a fee.... ME: Go !@#$ yourself. Indian Chap 2: Hangs up. All the while this is being done Im on Google looking up Windows Technical Care call. I find this... I just had a call from one of my customers who told me they were contacted by a company proporting to be acting on behalf of Microsoft and that their computer was infested with viruses and that they were instructed to help. The caller made my customer do something in the DOS prompt, from what I gather it was just to do a dir listing to make it look as if those files were infected. They then wanted him to download a remote access client from logmein and this is where he became suspicious and said he wouldn't do it. They're using social engineering techniques to scare people and I can see a lot of vulnerable people being caught out by this. Beware that this scam is out there and if you have friends or family who may not be completely technically savvy it may bite them. I found this: http://www.digitaltoast.co.uk/fake-tech-support-call-scam-prefetch-virus-logmein123com on Google which is basically along the same lines as the call my customer got. I got a phone call today from a group trying to tell me I had malicious files on my computer and that my computer was running slow – they said they were from Windows Service Centre – Itec Help and that my windows computer was crook. I laughed at them and ended up speaking to a senior personnel and told them my computer doesn't even run on windows. He wanted to end the conversation really quickly after that. please check this link out. It is basically what they say and ask. http://www.computerhq.co.uk/content/warning-fake-tech-support-call-scam-windows-xp-service-provider I received a phone call this morning from someone claiming to be from Windows Technical Care. When asked, he told me Windows Technical Care was run from Stockton USA but that he was calling from India. I'm not at all clear on technical issues but I think he wanted me to go online and do something to stop spyware. I have a paid-for and up-to-date version of AVG Internet Security and I concluded this was not a genuine phone call and so I asked him to email me whatever was required. He said he couldn't do this but gave me a URL of wtcare.com Has anyone ever heard of Windows Technical Care? Many thanks in advance It's a scam, hang up on them straight away and do not entertain any of their 'questions'. Although I'd imagine it'll be fun to wind them up. http://money-watch.co.uk/7118/beware...ows-phone-scam I receive a call at least once a week. I let them explain and then ask them if they like acting fraudulently. That starts off a "what do you mean" conversation. I then tell them my computer is not infected. It has many error messages within the operating system (unseen unless you know where to look) but that does not slow down the operating system and it is perfectly normal. BT my provider has confirmed that. I then ask them again why they are acting fraudulently. Windows do not give them authority and they will never ring a customer. They end up putting the telephone down on me. If they are not trying to gain access to your operating system they are trying to charge you to clean up an operating system that does not need cleaning. I did a 1471 (which in england tells you the number of the latest person who called your phone) and it came back as 'Caller withheld their number'. I would suggest that you be on the lookout for anything like this. |

ROFL, i had that call 1-2months ago. thought someone just prank called me.
It's very strange that you get calls on english when you live in sweden.. so believing that guy for a second would be slightly stupid I answered, i don't have a computer, so i think you got the wrong number and the indian guy hangs up. i had such a laught reading your conversation :D |

OH ALL MY LOLS.
Had this call about a month back, sounded like a load of BS and me being me I tried to keep them on the line for as long as I could through trolling , one of the funniest things to do is just act like you cant even mouse click they get very frustrated. I kept him going on for about 20 minutes and to which i eventually turned around and said " ah my computers turned off". He replied with "pardon sir how is it you have been doing as I said to ?," I said I didn't have internet either nor even a phone line, I could hear the pause as he tried to comprehend me telling him over a land line that i didn't have a phone. He started to stutter and blabber on more useless crap to which I laughed and hung up. These guys are pretty bad at scamming but a decent heads up khayal some people might actually fall for this. I often get these calls & alternate between saying I have no computer or that I use linux. Either gets rid of them quickly. Sadly there's an awful lot of people around who shouldn't be allowed near a computer who will fall for it though.
