ARENA OF AGES
Over recent years, many have come to claim they are among the mightiest of Azeroth. Few, however, have been able to live up to the expectations of those that came before them. The time has come to prove your name belongs among the legends of this world. The Arena of Ages has officially been announced. The rules are simple. One on one, the victor being the one that is left standing. There are no other rules. Combat comes in many forms, all of them deemed acceptable for the Arena. Fight until you can no longer stand. Prove your prowess before the eyes of dozens of spectators! Wealth and glory awaits the victors. Find eternal fame by defeating your peers in glorious battle! But are you not interested in participating in the arena? Would you rather spectate and be entertained? Worry not, then! All throughout the day, you can expect entertainment in the form of bards and poets, among others. Expect market stands, which will offer you merchandising and souvenirs that will last you for many years to come. Support your favourite fighters, and enjoy a display of combat that will remain with you until the end of days! The Arena of Ages is scheduled to take place in but a few weeks(May 5). The event will house itself within Dire Maul, Feralas. Participants may sign up on the day itself, but may also contact administration in advance in order to secure merchandising at the arena. Spectators are advised to plan in advance, as Feralas may take some time to reach with conventional methods of transport. The Arena of Ages is a light-hearted attempt at bringing back some realm RP, without needing a specific reason to attend. By offering a wide range of RP, it is of my opinion that many characters which may usually not interact with each other, may be able to do so here. The idea for the Arena is simple. A standard one versus one tournament. But rather than all the tournaments in the past did, we plan to provide content other than combat from start to finish. A match has ended? Bring in the bards, amuse the spectators while the next competitors prepare themselves! There's a pause before the next match? Open up the market stands, sell merchandising specific to the Arena, as well as for specific fighters! Got wounded in the Arena? The infirmary is ready to receive you. Colosseums in the old times did not just focus on the combat. It was the experience of going there. The fights were the main attraction, but everything around it used the Colosseum as leverage. In return, they added to the experience. This same idea is the one I want to try to apply to this event. For this event to be a proper success, I am hoping for two things. First of all, I'm hoping that all of you find this idea a good idea for one, and are interested in coming! It wouldn't be much of a realm event with only a few attendants. Secondly, I'm hoping to illicit some volunteers for some action between the fights, including the aforementioned bards and poets, as well as the merchants and whatnot. The combat will be direct PvP combat. If participants want to not use full out combat, and want to make it a 'show' of sorts, using weak spells for visual prowess, I'm fine with that. However, the participants are not required to dumb down their gear or whatnot. What I do request, though, is that people do not show up directly in the highest tier of armour you can find for PvP these days, and at least transmogrify them, so we don't get lots of clones running around. Due to the event's nature being cross-faction, emote combat will not be possible. Rewards for the winners will be announced later. We will currently be using a group of dedicated Horde alts, their number increasing depending on the attendance by our Horde guests. If you're on the Horde and want to help out, you are more than welcome to message me. We will have a few of our own there so we can convey messages using RealID to cross the faction border. I'm looking for volunteers to help out. Don't want to take on an IC job? Don't worry, you're not required to at all, feel free to come and spectate freely. However, that said, I can definitely use some people who want to help out. I'm talking bards, poets, merchants, medics, perhaps even some more creative roles that you can think of yourself. I would highly recommend you contact me in advance if you're interested in doing this, but naturally, there'll be time and space on the day itself as well. There'll be a calendar event up soon. I'll attempt to chain moderator some, try to make this nice and widespread. I'd love the server to have a big boom again under the terms of a friendly event. On the matter of transportation: I was thinking of a 'caravan' as a sort of mini-event leading up to the Arena. Rather than everyone flying in individually, it might be more fun to have a small band of mounted and unmounted travellers making their way there by ground. Interested? Please do post with feedback. One final note. To people who generally do not RP: This event is for you as well. I know there are quite a few of you out there who'd like to try their hand at RP, and perhaps this is the ideal place for you to start - an event which also has game mechanics mixed in, so you can rely on those to build a proper base at RP. Though the event is not specifically directed towards new RPers, this might just be an excellent opportunity to get involved in an aspect of the server and the game you weren't aware of before. Just try to be mindful of others, and be willing to learn. The server can use more RPers. Summary: When: May 5th, 18:00 CET(server time). Where: Dire Maul, Feralas. We are still searching for a Horde representative to cooperate with one of our officers on their alts, your role'd be running things for the Horde as well as heralding/translating. If you're interested, leave a message on these boards or message me ingame.

This sounds fantastic! Would love to see some decent well organised dedicated e.t.c RP events going on around Azeroth again ^^ not just private guilds keeping to themselves... but just groupings and stuff, awsome stuff :D:D:D
Definately intent on supporting all of this in whatever way flexible, i'm confident that I aint the only one who wants to see RP flourish on this realm once more ^^ |

Are there any locations besides Orgrimmar where one could find Horde RPers to randomly approach? I know of Silvermoon, but is it worth it? Would like some Horde opinions to see where we should send our heralds!
Preparations are proceeding fine thus far. Could use some more volunteers, but we're getting sign ups daily. |

I'd say best bet for getting Horde roleplayers is to go straight to the guilds and their leaders. Such as the Convocation, Thousand Eyes, Dagger and Totem.

HordeRP is a public IC channel, you could use that to get in contact with many RPers at once. If you want to do it in person you could try going to the Thunderbluff story night on fridays there is normally quiet a turnout. |

And so the countdown begins! With only eighteen more hours on the clock, let me shed some light on exactly what's going on.
The welcome will initially be done by the mysterious wealthy organizer of the tournament, involving a speech and some entertainment while we wait for all to arrive. Not long after, we will begin our first matches, following a pooled or tiered tournament setup, depending on how many participants we manage to get. After a set amount of matches, a recess will be announced, after which various things occur. Market stands will open, bards and poets will be sent out to entertain people, basically, this part is all up to the spectators. Between the matches, the medics are ready to receive the losers and victors of each match. We've got a fair crew of volunteers who already want to take this role upon themselves. Note: Cross-faction treatment might be a little tricky, but we'll try to make it work(ideally, we'd love a Horde medic!). We can always use more volunteers. Right now, the selection of bards and poets is limited, whereas we've got a fair few market stalls(and we'd love more!). Don't worry though, because if everyone opens a stall/acts as entertainment, there'd be none to market to/entertain! So please, do attend, and show that the realm's still capable of pulling off great events. The event will begin at 18:00 server time. |
