But it isn't describe as supplies. It is described as whiskey. If the Horde was actually attacking the supply lines of the Alliance this would make a lot more sense, but right now, precious resources (read soldiers) are being wasted on stopping a caravan transporting booze. My suggestion then, for the next effort to revise and then test these campaign rules, would be this: Use the word "representative." Explicitly point out that individual engagements and missions are representative of the continuing combats surrounding; the prisoner escape was representative of numerous small such engagements, some with actually valuable prisoners. This assault is representative of other such raids on supply trains, but we've chosen to play out the most amusing one. "You may have heard stories of that campaign, private, telling of great battles. Few of course remember the bravery and loyalty of the merchant caravans. No medals awaited them if they should survive to return home, with the "wolf packs" of the Horde lurking, seeking their blood. Each one of those merchants paid the price of any hero. "Well, I'm not going to tell you about them today. No, today I want to tell you about ONE of them. Plugger, and his caravan of ale...." Making individual engagements symbolic of the larger engagement would retain a lot of the "toy soldiers game" feel of the campaign [a deliberate similarity, as pointed out in early discussions]. Edit: "Reprasentative" is not a word. Representative is. |

I think you're misreading. Rhoun's post isn't complaining this is unfair -- he's saying "them's the apples kids, sometimes in war you do stupid stuff because it serves the big picture -- as this mission does because if you beat it, you WIN. Now suck it up, quit whining and RP". Or that's what I'd like to say, anyway, so I'm sticking with my interpretation. |

And supply caravans (especially such a material fabled to have powerful effects on the drinker) reaching/failing to reach its destiny is no determinant in actual wars? You may not approve of the concept of this mission but it is irrefutable that it is a fun and original mission. Besides, it provides -some- sort of entertainment to those many guilds who cannot attend military missions this week due to no remaining supplies whatsoever. I don't know why it has to be a fuss because it's about something less serious in content than "Saving Private Ryan". Sometimes in wars, people need supplies and are in no condition for battle and such scenarios in a different context take place. |

I think you're misreading. Rhoun's post isn't complaining this is unfair -- he's saying "them's the apples kids, sometimes in war you do stupid stuff because it serves the big picture -- as this mission does because if you beat it, you WIN. Now suck it up, quit whining and RP". Oh, yeah. Quite likely. Apologies. By the way, Waywatcher, I didn't sign Ashenleaf up for this as I wanted to let more fitting units go first, and I also couldn't confirm 5 members at the early stage. Anyway, I know the 'random' section is for those outside the units, but if no one happens to sign up to fill the Alliance spots, we'd be happy and willing to send a few over to make up the numbers if you end up having to look to units instead. |

Although the greater publicity hasn't been told everything, don't assume that there isn't anything behind these missions and plots. It was hinted that the Royal Apothecary Society planned a doomday's weapon that would have been empowered by the souls of the executed prisoners - and it was so. It wasn't "just random 20 prisoners saved". It was wrecking a plot that could have literally turned the tides of the war. And it isn't just bringing over some booze kegs now - it's bringing over some kegs of powerfully enchanted booze that may (mentally and physically) re-vitalize the field-weary troops.
If you don't see the difference, I can't help you. About the open spots: There are still FOUR (4) spots for random Alliance members as caravan guards - and these characters should come from outside the campaign units as they're randoms. These would be about the last moments to sign up if you wish to come to the bonus mission with us! |
Alright. I'll be in touch with you about this tomorrow. |

I'm hellish busy with my assignments, but I'd hate to see an event (even if it is a sub-event) go foul for lack of volunteers who presumably have little to do. I think Niars here has a brewfest kodo, so if you're desperate and lacking for tomorrow evening I'll jump in. I can't promise a lot of time though, so if any of the teamsters need killing off early...
Also, I doubt you'll see me in-game beforehand. You can poke me here on the forums or on the AA - I'll check Niars' message inbox tomorrow afternoon and evening. |
|
Great, Niars. The teamsters are not in a central role, but the caravan looks better with more we have, so it's nice if you manage to join it. We'll make it sure that you're the first teamster that gets shot down!
Further notes on the experimental /duel RP-PvP method: Like mentioned, we experiment a bit on /duel mechanic in this event. No event participant is supposed to flag himself. Rather, the ambushers should /duel the caravan guards and members for the battle. It’s recommendable that you will challenge targets that are viable to your style of combat. If you’re a ranged caster, archer or a marksman, it’s best to target an opponent who’s likely to shoot back – and then you can have a fun exchange of shots. If you’re a melee-basher, attack another similarly prepared opponent. It will keep the fight more fun for all participants! Restricted RP-PvP is to be used in most /duels. That is, tone down your gear, and remember that the goal should not be to kill your opponent, but to have a roleplayed exchange of strikes. You should even be able to make emote descriptions that tell your comrades (although not the enemy) what’s happening. |

Maybe it would be a good idea to make sure what character is what before starting then? Generally Gerlda would take a shot at range before running into melee next to her wolf. (I think it is a bit of a shame that the only marksman class is the only beast master class) Edit: The above means that she could count as both, so I guess I'll be playing a hybrid. |
Not really. We just roll with it. Like usually in this campaign, those suggestions above are just that, suggestions. You want to go for a hybrid role, go for a hybrid role. |

...:Damn it, I can bash with a truncheon and throw bolts of lightning. Problem?

Then I will send the mighty doom ov fel on thy and ensure that your soul shall forever brun in the fire of Demon Lord... Demon Lord... eeeh...
Say Waywatcher, is there still a spot for the event? Seems like I'm available. |

Meant to post in this earlier! The event looks great, logistics is something often overlooked in campaign based RP, and perhaps in the next one WW, I’d love to see a bigger “focus” on it.
Unfortunately with the plague you gave us an all that, there isn’t a place for the Talons to sign up at all – however I know several of my members have signed up on their alts for the non-guilded places, so I can feel like I’m contributing. |
Hopefully there will be! |

Say, Waywatcher, if you still want/need teamsters for this, I happen to have a draenei shammy with the brewfest kodo that could fill a slot. =)
(Tem does have one too, but she wouldn't have a reason to be in the area or to help with booze moving. << >>) |
