Has something changed with the shadows?
On my 3 different computer (2xPC's, one laptop, all using different graphics cards), I have noticed that the shadows are all horribly blocky.

I've been playing now for almost 3 years, and unless I've been blind before, I remember the shadows as a lot better than this with crisp, sharp edges.

What makes it worse is that the edges are constantly 'shimmering', the shadows dont stay still at all, they are moving slightly, so its a real annoyance.

Settings all set to Ultra.

On one of my PC's, I updated all the graphics drivers and spent 2 hours changing all kinds of different settings, none of which had any effect. But, the fact that it is the same problem on one other PC, and also my laptop (which was a clean install just recently), I'm pretty sure this isnt a PC or driver issue.

On a side note, I have recently started playing a number of other PC games, such as Assassins Creed 2, Dead Island and Skyrim. These games also have horrendously bad shadows, ugly and blocky just like this, but I got told the reason for those is because it was a console game ported to the PC. But it now seems WoW has the same issue.

Any help anyone?

If you play World of Warcraft on all of these machines, does that mean I'm right in thinking they may have the same AddOns?

Could you also provide a DxDiag? A DxDiag from any one machine is fine; we may not need all three.

Hello,

Please note that the shadows cast from structures in Eversong Woods won't be exactly amazing, it was released in 2007 so they won't be as good as the Cataclysm ones, for example.

Can you make sure though that you have the Shadow Quality slider set to full? Also a DxDiag as Doomsinger asks would be good too.

Disabled all addons. And in fact, deleting them all from the addon folder just to be sure.

I took the screenshot in Eversong Woods just at random, it is just as bad in Stormwind.

Shadow Quality slider set to full. however, the shadows from the terrain only appear on high and ultra. But even at the middle setting, the shadows from the character are blocky. In fact, they dont change at all when I increase the shadow setting. i.e When i go up from good to high, the character shadows do not change, but the terrain ones appear.I spoke to someone else about this yesterday who also doesnt remember them being as blocky. So, my first question is "Am I going crazy?" Have they always been this bad and I just haven't noticed.

If anyone else has any screenshots where the shadows are sharp and clear and not constantly fuzzing, please post just so I know I'm not going crazy.

I can do dxdiag, but as I say, this is on 3x PC's. 2 running W7 32-bit and one running W7 64-bit (but with the WoW 32-bit client on). Had the same setup for over a year, nothing has changed.

Should I post this thread again and include my dxdiag at the start. It seems that there is an initial offer of help, but then it disappears.

Just want someone to confirm if this is how it has always looked.

experiencing same issue, you are not going crazy :/

- reinstalled 4 totally different drivers
- tried all settings from my nv250gts and WoW
- char shadows dont want to change they are very very pixelated and ugly

its actually so bad, that is forcing me to stop few-hours-wow-sessions
